To think no couple goes to bed at the same time?

Watching a programme tonight with DH and saw another example of a couple lying in bed at night having a conversation after clearly retiring at the same time. Mentioned to DH that we never ever go to bed at the same time (I'm an early to bed early to rise person and he's the opposite). DH said that no couple does - it's just a plot device to facilitate dialogue. I think I agree and couples who go to bed at same time don't exist. Anyone out there (past honeymoon stage) who does?

I was with ex dh for 12 years, ALWAYS went to bed at the same time, watched tv, talked etc

Lolwhat · 05/08/2019 10:27

We do

kmammamalto · 05/08/2019 10:29

We've been together for 6 years, married in May have a toddler and baby on the way and have almost always gone to bed at the same time. Only time we don't is if one of us is out or really tired so in super early or something! I didn't know that people didn't go to bed at the same time regularly!

Halloumimuffin · 05/08/2019 10:30

We usually do, i'd say 90% of the time. Both of us are light sleepers so the other coming to bed later will always wake us up.

chaoscategorised · 05/08/2019 10:31

We rarely do - I can't keep my eyes open past 10.30, he can survive of 4-5 hours sleep a night. I like it - means I get to sleep quickly, then we cuddle and chat in the morning.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/08/2019 10:32

Mostly we go to bed at the same time but on the odd occasion I stay up a little longer. By 10/11pm we are both knackered!

AwfulFuckingHair · 05/08/2019 10:38

We very rarely do.

cheeseislife8 · 05/08/2019 10:39

We do mostly, unless one of us is ill or has worked very late. We're well past the honeymoon stage, 9 years in

Tiredmum100 · 05/08/2019 10:45

I've been with my dh for 10 years, I'd say we go to bed at the same time 99.9 % of the time. There is the odd occasion when one of us may stay up to watch the end of something but usually go together.

riotlady · 05/08/2019 11:05

We mostly do, unless one of us is exceptionally tired or out doing something really late. I love a cuddle and a chat at the end of the day!

We do, 99% of the time. Only exceptions are if someone is ill, really.

We don't have a TV in there and we rarely read in bed... we just go together and chat until someone falls asleep. It's nice. I haven't planned for it to be a thing; but I like it Smile

bumble270 · 05/08/2019 11:35

We've been living together 10 years and net always go to bed at the same time, occasionally one of us will stay up to watch something or go to bed early to read or just super tired

I don't like it if we don't go at the same time for a few days, I enjoy chatting in bed

gubbsywubbsy · 05/08/2019 11:38

We do , every single night . We watch tv in bed .. been married 19 years and I think we have always done it .

bumble270 · 05/08/2019 11:54

Sorry app said it wasn't posting as there was an error 🙈 didn't mean to post that many times!

chuttypicks · 05/08/2019 12:16

Together 4 years and we always go to bed at the same time.

lostinthewheatfield · 05/08/2019 12:25

Yes, 22 years married and 3 children. We watch tv together for a couple of hours and then go to bed together.

notso · 05/08/2019 12:32

Yes. Now he works away, I've discovered need DH to make me go to bed.
When he's not here I go to bed really late, feel like shit and more often than not get a migraine.
When he's here I grumble about going to bed at a reasonable hour but I wake up fresh and happy. That could be the sex though too.
I'd never admit that to him though.

Butters83 · 05/08/2019 13:16

We generally do unless its the weekend - its something we naturally tend to do anyway and also because I am a really light sleeper and he wakes me up when he comes to bed and then I am irrationally rage filled haha

willywillywillywilly · 05/08/2019 13:17

Ah we do.. 9 years together :)

ilikepurple · 05/08/2019 13:18

95% of the time we do, always have done.

WishIwas19again · 05/08/2019 13:19

95% of the time yes we go up together. Been together 17 years, married for 11 years.

TheWernethWife · 05/08/2019 13:21

34 years together and I always go to bed first, sit up reading my tablet, checking out Mumsnet and Facebook. No problem for us, don't want to watch sport on SKY.

MinesaPinot · 05/08/2019 13:23

Been together for 24 years and we go to bed at same time other than occasionally on a Saturday night during the football season if I can't be bothered to stay up for Match of the Day.

MulticolourMophead · 05/08/2019 13:24

I spent 30 years with someone who wasn't happy if I didn't go to bed when he did. I could go up earlier (and towards the end I did so as to have time on my own), but if he went up first, I'd hear him call if I stayed up much beyond an extra 10 mins.

So glads I can choose my own times now.
