To ask for lists of things that would make the world a nicer place if people did them

I posted yesterday about things that I’d noticed others do which seemed selfish, and it seems the problem is that people don’t always think about how their actions might affect others.

So if you could list the things that wind you up that would make life nicer with very little effort.

My top one would be to park considerately - I lose count of the number of times I see people who’ve blocked others in, parked across 2 spaces, made roads impassable for emergency services.

What other things do you wish people thought a bit more about?

Picking up dog poo. And stopping their cats from roaming and doing their poo everywhere too (and perhaps limit the number of pet cats).

Vivavivienne · 04/08/2019 15:43

Use a take away cup then sit down in the coffee shop. Just stop.

healthylifestylee · 04/08/2019 15:44

Recycling
Re use bags
Don't litter
Pick up after your dog
Don't let your kids scream in the garden all summer
Be respectful of others
The NHS is suffering so don't abuse it and moan about it 24/7
Use less plastic
Waste less
Laugh and smile more
Be positive

You’ve lost me with that one - why’s it a problem, other than it’s a bit cheap?

Being kind to everyone. Kindness is so underrated.

Lordamighty · 04/08/2019 15:47

Stop dropping litter. It’s such a selfish thing to do.
Just reading about the rubbish left behind after Brighton Pride has given me the rage.

writersbeenblocked · 04/08/2019 15:47

Don't do this, the shelters would overflow.

One thing is to look where they're going on public transport - I have a bad back and constantly being battered by people walking into me is painful! Another thing is for drivers to let you go if you're trying to cross a road with no luck.

Purpleartichoke · 04/08/2019 15:48

Minimize fragrance use. I have an anaphylactic airborne allergy to several fragrances. Leaving my home is like playing Russian roulette. Getting near the detergent aisle at the store is an actual danger. If products simply stopped being loaded with scent, the world would be a much nicer place for many people who suffer from allergies or have migraine triggers.

???

I’m not sure I understand this one either - surely cars stopping to let people cross is dangerous and relies on the traffic in the other direction stopping too.

Wouldn’t the better thing be for the pedestrian to cross at a proper crossing?

Manners.

Oblomov19 · 04/08/2019 15:50

Treat others the way you want to be treated

AntennaReborn · 04/08/2019 15:51

Not eating smelly food on public transport
Not standing still in the middle of the stairs in busy train stations
Not parking on pavements

jcurve · 04/08/2019 15:51

Stop littering. If there’s no bin, take it home with you. There’s no excuse for the absolute mess left on beaches and commons after a warm weekend day.

Vulpine · 04/08/2019 15:53

Not post about your pet peeves on mumsnet

Pikapikachooo · 04/08/2019 15:53

Not drop litter

If no one ever dropped litter and managed their waste the world would be a better place

Bearbehind · 04/08/2019 15:54

Minimise fragrance use.

These are baffling me a bit - it’s quite a big ask to request that everyone stop using fragranced products that they like because some people have allergies

Don't vote for a political party that punishes those that need support. Austerity has killed this country and fuelled the division that resulted in Brexit.

That's got to be more effective and wide reaching than parking nicely.

ooooohbetty · 04/08/2019 15:56

Stop listening to music on public transport. Even with headphones we can still hear it and it's really annoying.

partysong · 04/08/2019 15:57

I assume the paper cup one is about the environment - if you're staying in use a proper cup rather than a throw away one

OP- I don't think the fragrance thing is too much to ask. I'm certainly limited the strong fragrances I wear

NoBaggyPants · 04/08/2019 15:58

You think that liking a fragranced product trumps someone else's right to breathe? You really need to look at your priorities.

Bearbehind · 04/08/2019 16:00

So you’re saying the entire perfume industry as well as every other fragranced product should end because of allergies?

Plenty of people have allergies to certain things but surely that doesn’t mean those things should be banned so no one is affected by them?

OP posts:
aliensprig · 04/08/2019 16:01

100% agree with pp re fragrance - actually I think the main issue with it is that people don't know how much is acceptable to put on. If it smells like you bathed in it then you probably need to be supervised during application by a sensible adult Grin

KettleOn919 · 04/08/2019 16:03

When you have to pass someone coming the other way on a narrow pavement, path, aisle etc, please catch the other person's eye and smile if they step aside and let you go first. Don't just strut past with your nose in the air, especially if they have had to flatten themselves against a wall or step into the road to make way for you.

Bearbehind · 04/08/2019 16:04

Don’t try and get on a train or in a lift until the people already on / in it have got out
