To ask for lists of things that would make the world a nicer place if people did them

I posted yesterday about things that I’d noticed others do which seemed selfish, and it seems the problem is that people don’t always think about how their actions might affect others.

So if you could list the things that wind you up that would make life nicer with very little effort.

My top one would be to park considerately - I lose count of the number of times I see people who’ve blocked others in, parked across 2 spaces, made roads impassable for emergency services.

What other things do you wish people thought a bit more about?

Don’t be a twat.

When you do something think ‘am I being a twat?’

If the answer is yes. Stop. 😉

Bearbehind · 04/08/2019 20:09

because the person with the bike cycles both ends of the trip and it's quite likely at least one of those replaces a car journey.

Maybe but I still don’t agree that a bike should take up the space of at least 2 people on a packed commuter train.

Understand other people might be having a shit time, just be kind and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Appreciate people are different and have different views and their own mind....your way is not always best for whole planet.

Use less plastic
Thank me when I let you out of the side road (😡😡😡😡 it's just basic manners)

tigger001 · 04/08/2019 20:22

Be brave and complement people, even random strangers.....
If you think 'I love her shoes' tell her...

I love this one, I do it, but some people just think I'm crazy 😂😂

Bearbehind · 04/08/2019 20:25

I do it too and agree people think I’m mad! 😂

Don't buy or read The S*n.
If you must walk three-plus abreast on the pavement, please be mindful of others and give them room to pass.
Please don't congregate in shop entrances yakking, again, people need to get past.
Please don't allow your DC to run amok in public places. Not everyone is able to move out of the way quickly. They could even knock someone very frail over.
Don't waste NHS resources. Some items are a lot cheaper OTC.
This last one is another thread completely but I can't help but feel the world would be a nicer place if people didn't vote Conservative.

tigger001 · 04/08/2019 20:28

Don't buy or read The S'n
Should go without saying ....,this is a must, well said.

Angrybird123 · 04/08/2019 20:32

I think 'don't be a dick' sums it all up to be honest.

nothingtowearever · 04/08/2019 20:54

People saying please and thank you- so few people say it now

ohcarriemathison · 04/08/2019 21:03

To live in a world where animal cruelty of any kind was outlawed.
No SeaWorld.
Killing for tusks.
Donkey rides
Horse racing
Eating animals
Dog racing
Puppy farms

I feel it would genuinely be a nicer, kinder, more humane society if we protected our animals.
Mandatory filming in homes for care of the elderly.

I would love to live in a world that valued people, vulnerable members of society, children and animals instead of the world and climate we're in at the moment.

StCharlotte · 04/08/2019 21:07

Be brave and complement people, even random strangers. If you think 'I love her shoes' tell her...

This has happened to me as recently as last night and it's a great feeling so I shall start doing it too.

Justanotherlurker · 04/08/2019 21:10

People read wider than the guardian and stop pretending every situation can be won on an emotional level.

Some people accept that despite their working class routes and that they have always voted labour that they themselves are right leaning/neoliberal politically.

Would help us all move on as a nation and stop this shit show we are currently in.

Benjispruce · 04/08/2019 21:37

Tigger I do too. My teen DC cringe but a stranger in a shop once complimented my outfit and it made my day when I was feeling really down about myself. I did it only last week. I’m too old to care if I’m embarrassing now .

TildaKauskumholm · 04/08/2019 21:48

It all boils down to kindness and consideration for others, both sadly lacking in many people these days.

EugenesAxe · 04/08/2019 21:50

Here are my suggestions:

  1. Stop dropping litter
  2. Pick up dog poo
  3. Stop taking drugs
  4. Learn to recycle properly
  5. Look at everyone else as a beautiful human being, not at race/ colour/ sexual orientation/ class/ age
  6. Learn to say no to children more, esp if it involves acquiring plastic tat
  7. Look at local for sale boards first, then go to the high street, then online
  8. Limit yourself to having two children
  9. Drive/ fly less
10. Be polite and empathetic
nothingwittyhere · 04/08/2019 22:05

Don't keep your engine idling when you've stopped by the roadside. It's polluting and illegal. If you do it next to someone's windows, you're a complete jerk.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/08/2019 22:09

When I’m in a changing room eg John Lewis and someone is trying something on in the communal bit to see what their friend/mum thinks of it, if I like it I will always say, ‘you look really lovely’ or similar as I walk past.

BlackPatch · 04/08/2019 22:11

For all the people saying don’t eat meat or dairy: whilst I understand your reasons and fully agree with being as ethical as possible with those choices, I have a medical condition that means I have to limit my consumption of carbohydrates to less than 50g per day. If I were to remove animal protein from my diet I would be left with salad leaves and a few non starchy vegetables to eat....! I’m already losing weight at a drastic rate because of what I can’t eat (3lbs a week) and can’t afford to lose any more!! What do you propose someone like me does who would suffer physically if they stopped eating meat?

lalafafa · 04/08/2019 22:12

Women who hover when pissing, wipe the seat you dirty middens.

ifuckarses · 04/08/2019 22:25

@BlackPatch as somebody who follows a keto Vegan diet I can assure you it is possible to stick to below 50g carbs without meat or dairy.

OP, did you start this thread just to argue with people?

rookiemere · 04/08/2019 22:27

As a driver, if someone lets you out, please acknowledge them with a cheery wave or flash of your lights.
Always try to assume people have good intentions- unless you see them committing a crime- and treat them accordingly.

I didn't know that big eggs were bad for chickens- need to rethink my egg buying policy.

BlackPatch · 04/08/2019 22:29

I’m sure it’s possible to follow a vegan keto diet but unfortunately I also have a weird selection of food allergies which rule out a lot of key ingredients to vegan foods. On the advice of medical professionals I cannot go meat or dairy free. I also can’t have children so hopefully that may make up for my failings in other areas when it comes to environmental or ethical factors!

woodhill · 04/08/2019 22:32

Stop spitting on the pavement - just disgusting

KarmaStar · 04/08/2019 22:57

Be informed about where your food comes from.
Stop putting animals in ridiculous clothes, especially in this hot weather
Stop putting animals in situations that scare them just to get a utube but
Stop all animal cruelty
Thank you.🐕🌸💗

TitsalinaBumSquash · 05/08/2019 11:54

Be brave and complement people, even random strangers.....

I agree with this point and will always compliment clothing/hair/scent etc but so many times on Mumsnet it has been thought of as being rude and how dare people comment on another persons appearance, if it's a man that does it he's being predatory and you shouldn't have to tolerate it.
