To think that cricket is shit?

I dont get it. Its so monotonous and seems to go on forever and the scoring is all over the place. Its all wickets and runs and overs. At least with football when the ball goes into the net you know that someone has scored, same with rugby when the ball go over the line. But cricket just completley and utterly baffles me and always has. Yet some people seem to really love it. Yesterday I saw a bloke who was clearly meant to be working sneakily watching the Ashes on his mobile phone, its obviously rivetting to some.

Its just boring shit though, isnt it?

YABU. You just don't know the rules, so of course it's going to be difficult for you to understand what's going on.

I don't like Rugby, went to a rugby match and had no idea what was going on. Same with American Football, however I don't know the rules.

MrsExpo · 03/08/2019 20:57

I’m with you 100% OP.

(..... DH currently sitting on the bed watching cricket on his iPad ... with the sound on ...... AARRGGHH!)

Moomin12345 · 03/08/2019 20:57

YANBU. It is.

Athe · 03/08/2019 20:58

YABU

MargotMoon · 03/08/2019 20:58

So something is boring because you don't understand how it works? That's what primary school kids say, isn't it? YABU.

littleblueorchid · 03/08/2019 20:59

Yes it's utter tedious shite, just like the people that obsessively watch it.

MidnightAtTheOasis · 03/08/2019 20:59

YABU. It’s the subtle ebbs and flows which make it uniquely fascinating.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/08/2019 20:59

Yabu.

Bloody love it.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 03/08/2019 20:59

But like football, the rules of rugby are pretty straightforward. A try is when the ball goes over the line. You can also score via a goal kick. Thats pretty much it.

But cricket.. even my Dad doesnt watch cricket and he watches all sports. Even sodding snooker!

I generally dislike watching sport of any kind but watching live is totally different.
I hate rugby but really enjoyed going to Twickenham to watch England v Italy.
Cricket is confusing but there’s nothing like sitting with a pimms in the sun listening to the the sound of the ball hitting the willow........or is that stumps........googly?

TemporaryPermanent · 03/08/2019 21:00

I adore it when I remember to watch it. If you just think of it as a duel between the batter and the bowler - the rest of it gets easier. The beginner's guide by Simon Hughes is really good though I wasn't that chuffed to receive it from dh for my birthday

Lalallama · 03/08/2019 21:01

YANBU. DH loves it. I've tried to be interested in it, he's explained the rules, but it just doesn't make any sense to me. And every game appears to last about four months.

I love playing French cricket with the kids though.

AskMeHow · 03/08/2019 21:01

YABU.

DareDevil223 · 03/08/2019 21:01

Yabvvvvvu. It's a marvellous sport. The way play unfolds over 5 days in a test match is often riveting.

Rugby though, that's a pile of shite.

Pipandmum · 03/08/2019 21:02

I do understand the rules of cricket. I’ve been to years of my son playing it. Still think it’s one of the most boring things ever, along with golf, snooker, car racing and darts.

Medievalist · 03/08/2019 21:03

Yeah it's a complicated game that requires tactical thinking, stamina and huge skill. Football is a nice simple game for people who don't have the ability to master the complexities of cricket.

SillyBub · 03/08/2019 21:03

YABSooooooooooU

I love cricket beyond anything else in life DC included.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 03/08/2019 21:04

YANBU.

PuzzledObserver · 03/08/2019 21:04

YABU. The complexity and variety are what make it interesting.

Sparklingbrook · 03/08/2019 21:05

YANBU.

My Mum is a huge fan. Every summer it would be blaring out on the radio, boring commentators and all.
The rules don't make sense to me either, and it goes on too long and they can't play unless the weather is nice-or something.

That said, i think golf is worse. The rules are baffling. Someone said golf was a joke taken too far and I would agree with that.

PixieLumos · 03/08/2019 21:05

A few weeks ago I would have totally agreed - and on the TV I still think it’s boring. I watched it for real the other week and it was quite entertaining (maybe the cider in my hand helped Grin)

lozengeoflove · 03/08/2019 21:05

Howvery dare you, Dare! Rugby is not shit, well, unless you support anyone but the ABs, of course Grin

OP, YABU. Try watching one day crochet batches. Loads of fun!
Besides, any sport that has a break for tea, and scones is alright by me Grin

MustBeThin · 03/08/2019 21:06

5 day cricket is pretty dull but I can watch 50 overs and 20 overs games. I do love it when cricket or football is on though, if I don't want to watch I just sit and read for hours while DP watches tv. Bliss

Medievalist · 03/08/2019 21:07

Try watching one day crochet batches. Loads of fun

Don't see it somehow Grin

kidsmakesomuchwashing · 03/08/2019 21:07

You don't like something because you don't understand it! Think my 3 year old has a better attitude than that!
