To think that cricket is shit?

I dont get it. Its so monotonous and seems to go on forever and the scoring is all over the place. Its all wickets and runs and overs. At least with football when the ball goes into the net you know that someone has scored, same with rugby when the ball go over the line. But cricket just completley and utterly baffles me and always has. Yet some people seem to really love it. Yesterday I saw a bloke who was clearly meant to be working sneakily watching the Ashes on his mobile phone, its obviously rivetting to some.

Its just boring shit though, isnt it?

m.youtube.com/watch?v=tYrue4oXCbo this is how cricket seems to me

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/08/2019 21:09

YABVVVVU! Cricket is my favourite sport, I've spent a lovely lazy day watching Stuart Broad the match

Muddlingalongalone · 03/08/2019 21:12

Yabu - it's marvellous, you can sit out and have a drink whilst watching, civilised - don't play in the rain and TMS is awesome.
Agree 20 & 50 overs is 100% more accessible than test cricket but even so, a great game.
Best of all - it utterly perplexes my German colleagues that you can play for 5 days & still have a draw 😂😂😂

minionsrule · 03/08/2019 21:14

YABU..... its a lovelt sport where the brain is more important than the brawn. Simpletons don't understand it Grin

Fishfeedingfrenzy · 03/08/2019 21:15

The best AIBU thread title ever

Grin

But YABU.

HypatiaCade · 03/08/2019 21:16

You heathen! How dare you!!! Watching is great, but playing is even better.

LadyRannaldini · 03/08/2019 21:17

Perish the thought that people may have different interests to you! I find a lot of things boring and long winded, Star Wars, LOTR, Only Fools and Horses, snooker, darts........but I realise that many people like them, c'est la vie.

Longdistance · 03/08/2019 21:17

Oh god, I deal with cricket in my job, my dh likes cricket, I’ve watched it 😴 YANBU

TillyTheTiger · 03/08/2019 21:20

YABU! Most sports are confusing and boring unless you make the effort to understand a bit about them. Cricket is a superb sport with so many nuances. Try watching a bit of the T20 Blast if test cricket is too slow for you.

lozengeoflove · 03/08/2019 21:20

🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ That was meant to say: try watching one day matches.

I blame my cracked screen and breastfeeding by the glimmer of a lamp light Grin

WhenIsTheEasyBit · 03/08/2019 21:21

YABVVVVVU. It's the most intriguing sport - requires individual and team performance, strategy, and can swing one way then the other several times in a game. Plus, the wit of players, commentators and spectators is head and shoulders above any other sport.

summerdown · 03/08/2019 21:22

Yabvu

My favourite sport. Both dc and dh play and there’s nothing better than watching them play together. One of the few sports different generations can play together

RubyTrees · 03/08/2019 21:23

Like any other sport, you have to (want to) understand the rules to appreciate it.

YABU - you can't simply call it shit just because you're not interested in it OP!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 03/08/2019 21:24

I love it, and football. I can understand the Six Nations but generally otherwise struggle with rugby.

Definitely horses for courses.

SweetAsSpice · 03/08/2019 21:25

YABexrremelyU

I felt the same. About test cricket. Till I learnt the rules and went to watch. It’s actually mesmerising. nothing to do with the pimms Blush

T20 has revolutionised the sport. Much more entertaining to watch. Much shorter too.

LatteLove · 03/08/2019 21:26

Oh I like it! I tend to keep it quiet though as I live in Scotland and it’s not really a big thing up here!

nothingtowearever · 03/08/2019 21:29

10 weeks ago I'd completely agree. Until I went to a World Cup game- then I went again. And then booked a test match- I'm now obsessed I love it!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 03/08/2019 21:29

But like football, the rules of rugby are pretty straightforward. A try is when the ball goes over the line. You can also score via a goal kick. Thats pretty much it

Put like that cricket is very simple the number of times you (or your team) run between two sets of wooden sticks on the pitch is your score thats its it. Its that simple. Even more simple than either football or rugby. That have penalties, off side rules, scrummages, cnversions, free kicks. Lineouts and throw ins.

You can make any sport complicated if you dont undetstand it.

Chesntoots · 03/08/2019 21:30

Test Match Special is the best sound in the world. Fact!!

luckylavender · 03/08/2019 21:32

So if you don't like something then it's 'shit'. Ignorant post.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 03/08/2019 21:34

Once upon a time, I would have agreed with you. But then the took me to a one day match and explained it as it went on. We were then lucky enough to be given tickets for a one day final at Lords and what an experience! We used to have season tickets at a successful football team but the cricket match knocked that into a cocked hat. We've been to several more finals since then, everyone of them truly riveting. And how civilised that you can take a picnic to eat during the lunch break!

Bunnybigears · 03/08/2019 21:35

I do not enjoy lots of sports but I dont think they are shit as obviously other people enjoy playing them and watching them.

Aposterhasnoname · 03/08/2019 21:36

God help me, and never, ever let DH know this, but I’ve grown to quite like it. I challenge anyone to watch the last half hour of the World Cup final, then come back and tell me it’s boring.

Watching the cricket, on a beautiful sunny day, with copious beer, is far more enjoyable than you think.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 03/08/2019 21:36

So basically, according to some posters anyway. If you dont like or understand cricket then you are thick?

Wearenotyourkind · 03/08/2019 21:38

Is anyone forcing you to watch/listen to cricket?
