To ask why so many deodorants are 48 and 72 hrs?!

Butterfly98 · 30/07/2019 14:24

I did the weekly shop yesterday, DD needed deodorant and it was so difficult to find one that lasted for 24hrs, the majority on the shelf were labelled as lasting for 48 and even 72hrs! Why would anyone need these or are there some really stinky people out there who don't shower for 2 or 3 days? We all shower daily in my house and I suspect most people do!

Oh god, please not another one of these threads!

Those numbers are just arbitrary shite they have pulled out of their arse for marketing purposes, just buy your DD one of those deodorants, it doesn't have to be a 24hr one.

GruciusMalfoy · 30/07/2019 14:27

I use them daily, I just find they work a bit better than 24hr ones.

LaurieMarlow · 30/07/2019 14:30

They're just there to cue enhanced efficacy for marketing purposes.

There isn't another obvious way to demonstrate how effective the deodorant is.

Reallybadidea · 30/07/2019 14:32

What did you think was going to happen if you bought a 48 or 72 hour one? 🤣🤣🤣

ShirleyPhallus · 30/07/2019 14:33

What on earth do you think happens after 24 hours?!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 30/07/2019 14:35

Why do you need a 24 hour one? Just buy whatever, there is no law to say one can’t use a 48 hour deodorant and wash daily. I promise the sky will not fall

Teddybear45 · 30/07/2019 14:35

I’m assuming it’s for people like me who often need to work through the night in the office at short notice and then be minty fresh for a meeting first thing the following morning. Often the only thing I have time to do in-between is touch up my hair / make up and chew a mint.

I recommend the Sure ones. They are really good.

Butterfly98 · 30/07/2019 14:36

@Reallybadidea 😂 what I meant was I wanted to buy one that wasn't too strong as DD has sensitive skin, it probably doesn't make much difference as same chemicals anyway in all of them!

HappyPunky · 30/07/2019 14:40

If you're worried about her skin, try her with a salt one on cooler days.

Reallybadidea · 30/07/2019 14:40

Maybe just look for the unscented ones then, perfumes often seem to be the culprit for people with sensitive skin. Smile

Butterfly98 · 30/07/2019 14:50

@HappyPunky where would I get a salt one, haven't seen those

Didntwanttochangemyname · 30/07/2019 15:17

I'll throw it out there, I shower every 2/3 days, and do you know - I have friends, my family are lovely, even my dog likes a cuddle and I'm yet to explode.
Get over yourself.

Camomila · 30/07/2019 15:21

Maybe they are marketed at outdoorsy types like campers and festival goers.
Plus shift workers like junior doctors that might be on their feet in a hot hospital for really long amounts of time.

picklemepopcorn · 30/07/2019 15:24

I loved the Mitchum one. It isn't always possible to shower every day- life gets in the way sometimes.

Now I don't use it at all, I use home made.

HappyPunky · 30/07/2019 15:31

@butterfly98 I have one called salt of the earth that I got from amazon but Holland and Barratt also have it. It's a very hard cylinder of salt that you run under the tap then on your armpits.

I switched to normal deodorant when the weather started getting warmer but I got on really well with it over the winter.

Fairylea · 30/07/2019 15:38

My Ds (who has autism and learning disabilities) thinks that if he has a 48 hour one he doesn’t need to wash or apply it again for 48 hours.... we’ve just had a discussion about it ConfusedBlushGrin I said he still needs to have a wash everyday!

Geminijes · 30/07/2019 15:39

I can never understand why you would apply deodorant and expect it to last 48 or 72 hours.

Shower daily and apply fresh deodorant.

There are a lot of people that don't shower daily. It's disgusting but each to their own.

Whenever, showering is discussed on MN many people admit to not showering daily and they think they don't smell. They can't smell themselves but others certainly can.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/07/2019 15:39

Just buy one marketed at sensistive skin, there's plenty to choose from.

Plenty of people will go 48 or 72 hours without showering and not be stinky. Not everyone is that sweaty.

herculepoirot2 · 30/07/2019 15:42

It doesn’t really matter why some people don’t or can’t shower for 48 hours. Clearly there are such people. Better that they don’t smell than that they do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Excited101 · 30/07/2019 15:42

I don’t shower daily, every 2-3 days is plenty. People are obsessed with showering in this country.

SunshineCake · 30/07/2019 15:43

I just want one that keeps me dry for more than five minutes Sad.

SimonJT · 30/07/2019 15:44

A marketing gimmic, I have a colleague who insists showering every other day is enough, she stinks of BO on the none shower days, it’s disgusting.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/07/2019 15:45

Unless you live with someone, you have no idea how often they shower. Very few people will smell bad only a day or two after a shower. The people who smell will either be sweatier than average or have gone for longer than 2/3 days without a shower.

Catsbooksandflowers · 30/07/2019 15:50

My DS will only shower a couple of times a week (he has autism.)

Excited101 · 30/07/2019 15:50

I smell (to me) if I don’t use a deodorant in the morning, though others can’t really smell me. With proper deodorant on every morning I can go days and days. I’ve never smelt of proper BO, maybe I would if I left it long enough!
