The absolute state of the Daily Mail (re Meghan Markle)

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7298013/Meghan-Markles-organic-baby-shawl-used-swaddle-Archie-workers-earning-37-PENCE-hour.html

This is there top story. Meghan is using a cheap shawl & DM have found the factory it was made in.

She’s been criticised non stop for her spending, uses something cheap and the DM visit the sweatshop it was made in! I’m sorry but we are all guilty of this, very few people I’m sure track down where everything they buy is made and how much the staff are paid.

It’s just getting ridiculous how they’ll find literally anything to criticise.

If the DM want to expose sweat shops (something they care little about usually) they have the resources and man power to do so but they don’t give a shit they just want to go after Meghan.

I also think social media has a massive role to play. When Kate came to the public's attention there was no twitter etc. And I really think the internet has made things much much worse for the women in the royal family.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/07/2019 08:28

Anti FGM campaign would be perfect for her, as dextra said

It seriously worries me that posters don’t recognise the undertones of such comments.
(Maybe the dailymail is hiring)

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 08:29

Maybe she could take on an awareness campaign for sickle cell anaemia too?

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 08:46

Well it turns out she’s that much of a virtue signaller that she’s got a bunch of high street shops to support Smart Works. Naturally comments are “why couldn’t she pick a British designer” and “why couldn’t she donate her own clothes”. I suppose if you’re friend is a designer you would, and if you think Givenchy is a little Ott for an interview you wouldn’t.

derxa · 31/07/2019 08:48

It seriously worries me that posters don’t recognise the undertones of such comments. (Maybe the dailymail is hiring) Oh for goodness sake I take back my comment. I didn't mean to cause offence. I realised how it would be viewed as soon as I wrote it.

Janista · 31/07/2019 09:09

Why is it offensive if she backs a campaign against FGM or sickle cell anemia, (or AIDS, obesity, heart disease or mental health for that matter).

Would be better than editing a magazine and including woke articles attempting to lecture the world about unconscious racism from a husband who dressed in a nazi uniform and referred to a colleague as “paki boy”.

Janista · 31/07/2019 09:11

They are incredibly badly advised at the moment. Either that or they just don’t listen, or care. Neither is a good look.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 09:12

“They are incredibly badly advised at the moment. Either that or they just don’t listen, or care. Neither is a good look.”

List the things they’ve done wrong.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 09:16

Janista you must surely be able to connect the extremely large dots.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 09:17

It’s a shame that thread about dog whistle racism got deleted.

Trickyteens · 31/07/2019 09:31

I don't read the DM, but I agree they are a dirty disgrace over this. I think they're racist. And why on Earth are they willing to look so very petty? Presumably they think their readers are all brainless idiots.

No one is screaming. Just quietly and persistently pointing it out.

Not all criticism. But a big old chunk of it.

Also, you haven’t answered Berts question.

LaurieMarlow · 31/07/2019 09:50

grotesque extravagance

What’s this grotesque extravagance (judged by the standards of the RF in general)?

Emotive words but no examples is a poor way to argue.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 09:52

“The screams of “racist” at any criticism of MM do nothing to help her”

The characterising of any slight suggestion that there might be an element of racism in the criticisms of MM as “screaming racism” do nothing to help her detractors!

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 09:54

Why is her extravagance any more “grotesque” than any other member of the Royal Family?

Janista · 31/07/2019 09:59

It does seem to often be the thing to shout to try and silence people. Call them a racist.

I noticed that elsewhere in the magazine Harry was unable to resist a side swipe at William - saying he’d only have two kids to help the environment , rather than the 3 that the Cambridge’s have! Couldn’t resist playing the “environmentalist”.

Given his own carbon footprint is probably bigger than that of billions of people, and that his wife will jet to New York for a frivolous party /day out, his one less kid will not make much difference and I’ll take no lectures from them.

They need to get a grip. Sadly being surrounded by people who blow smoke up their arse all day makes them horrendously out of touch - Harry, Wills and co are really no different to the queen and Charles. Just miles out of touch with the real world of work or normal life. They just pontificate on shite.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 10:03

Have you read the Vogue article or just the bit from the Mail that might make it look like a criticism of his brother if you squint really hard and squeeze til you let out a little fart?

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 10:03

“They are incredibly badly advised at the moment. Either that or they just don’t listen, or care. Neither is a good look.”

List the things they’ve done wrong.“

Did you miss my question, @janista?

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 10:05

And the thing with racists is, you want to hear them. Because then you know where they are and you can tackle them.

Hithere12 · 31/07/2019 10:10

Why is it offensive if she backs a campaign against FGM or sickle cell anemia, (or AIDS, obesity, heart disease or mental health for that matter

Because FGM is largely an African problem and she’s half African American, so it’s glaringly obvious why it’s racist, Kate wouldn’t be told to sort out FGM.

I don’t like the Vogue thing and I do think MM tries too much to be a celebrity instead of Royal. If people start seeing them as celebs that’s basically the end of the monarchy. I think it just needs scrapping at this point. I didn’t make this thread to defend MM herself but just to show how pathetic the coverage of her was.

“ I do think MM tries too much to be a celebrity instead of RoyaL”

In what way?

NoLeopard · 31/07/2019 10:25

But Meghan IS a celebrity (in the US) and has lived a celebrity lifestyle. She can't just change overnight. I expect people in the US think royalty are just celebs with a history so she needs time to accept that in the UK they have a different persona.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 10:27

What does MM do that’s celebrity not royal? How do you want her to change?
