www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7298013/Meghan-Markles-organic-baby-shawl-used-swaddle-Archie-workers-earning-37-PENCE-hour.html

This is there top story. Meghan is using a cheap shawl & DM have found the factory it was made in.

She’s been criticised non stop for her spending, uses something cheap and the DM visit the sweatshop it was made in! I’m sorry but we are all guilty of this, very few people I’m sure track down where everything they buy is made and how much the staff are paid.

It’s just getting ridiculous how they’ll find literally anything to criticise.

If the DM want to expose sweat shops (something they care little about usually) they have the resources and man power to do so but they don’t give a shit they just want to go after Meghan.

If people start seeing them as celebs that’s basically the end of the monarchy.

I never understand this point. They fulfil exactly the same role anyway.

Diana, Margaret, to some degree Fergie all acted exactly like celebs. Somehow the monarchy survived.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 10:28

Has September Vogue hit the shelves yet? I would love to see the entire un-DM edited version but I’m in Forrin parts so don’t have direct access.

Last time I bought and read it though was when I lived in the US in the 00’s. It was popular reading by my US friends and colleagues (waits to be told we are all as shallow as car park puddles) and amongst the obvious ads there were thought-provoking articles. Now I read it only at the hairdressers to catch up on the ads Grin

Hithere12 · 31/07/2019 10:28

In what way?

Here we go Grin

The whole point of Royals is their is meant to be a mistique about them, they rarely do interviews, Harry and MM have done much more celeb type stuff compared to William and Kate in the short time they’ve been Duke and Dutchess then Kate and William have. The Vogue thing is cringe. Can you imagine the Queen guest editing Vogue? Being on the cover is completely different to how preachy this spread looks.

They (Harry and MM) are in a position of privilege, him through birth, her through marriage, neither of them are there through merit so the idea of them preaching to anyone about “making the change to make the world a better place” is beyond pathetic.

“so the idea of them preaching to anyone about “making the change to make the world a better place” is beyond pathetic.”

So she isn’t allowed to do any charity or awareness raising work? What a very odd perspective.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 10:34

Like Bono you mean?

Does one need to have come up through the hard knocks to discuss things they care about?

Count how many days the RF are physically present at an event vs the amount of days something they’ve supported is discussed.

When you’ve got your face on all the money and all the stamps I think you definitely don’t need to guest Ed Vogue though. You have a fair amount of clout already.

Encyclo · 31/07/2019 10:37

If they do nothing, they’re lazy. If they try to connect on current issues, they’re virtue signalling. If they stay behind the palace doors they’re not engaging with the taxpayers who pay their salaries.
If they come out, they’re acting like celebs.

NoMoreCents · 31/07/2019 10:40

They (Harry and MM) are in a position of privilege, him through birth, her through marriage, neither of them are there through merit so the idea of them preaching to anyone about “making the change to make the world a better place” is beyond pathetic.

Either their PR team is really badly advising them or H and M are deluded. Same with Kate making that garden for the Royal Chelsea Flower Show.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 10:43

“Harry and MM have done much more celeb type stuff compared to William and Kate”

What is “celeb type stuff”?

Hithere12 · 31/07/2019 10:51

Clearly it’s just the sycophants left on my thread.

Bono wasn’t born into privilege he worked hard and was talented. I’m just saying in my opinion the Vogue thing is cringe, these two should be mildly embarrassed about their handed down position and the fact they’ve done nothing on merit to deserve it, and not be so sanctimonious about how others live their lives.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 10:52

What precisely did you object to about the garden cents? How is that being badly advised? Just because you don’t like/understand/approve of something does not make it ill-advised.

NoLeopard · 31/07/2019 10:54

Well Meghan wasn't born into privilege and got her fortune on merit as well. As I said, possibly the transition is proving difficult. New country, different culture etc

IrishMamaMia · 31/07/2019 10:56

Obviously this won't happen due to the high level of interest in H&M but it would be great if all media outlets could take a break on reporting on them. Particularly the horrible DM articles. There's been so much over exposure since the Royal wedding and people forget that they are human beings. I also think they'd be better off staying fully private and low key for awhile, seems to work well for the other royals.
Harry comes across as so hypocritical on the environment. I'd love to know what his carbon footprint is Hmm

GlitchStitch · 31/07/2019 11:00

Smartworks is a great venture, so is the Invictus Games. If they stuck to just focusing on the charities then that would be fine. Instead it's the preaching, it's annoying to lots of people and at this stage Harry appears in danger of disappearing up his own arse.

IrishMamaMia · 31/07/2019 11:03

I agree @GlitchStitch

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 11:05

“these two should be mildly embarrassed about their handed down position ”

These two specifically, or the royal family as a whole?

bluebell34567 · 31/07/2019 11:06

agree with op, vogue thing is cringe.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 11:07

I haven’t read Vogue yet. What’s cringy about it?

SamanthaBrique · 31/07/2019 11:07

I noticed that elsewhere in the magazine Harry was unable to resist a side swipe at William - saying he’d only have two kids to help the environment , rather than the 3 that the Cambridge’s have!

Did you even read the interview @Janista? It was a response to something Jane Goodall said. It sounds fairly off the cuff and hardly a dig at his brother!

“Now announcing they'll only have 2 DC to save the planet ”

Oh ffs, they didn’t “announce” it!

SamanthaBrique · 31/07/2019 11:13

@BertrandRussell I posted the relevant quote upthread but I despair of the lack of reading comprehension on Mumsnet these days.

GlitchStitch · 31/07/2019 11:15

Well he must have announced it somewhere otherwise how would we know how many children these two individuals who are so desperate for privacy are planning to conceive?

SamanthaBrique · 31/07/2019 11:19

@GlitchStitch It was a response to something Jane Goodall said in their interview and I don't think he was being serious. Read the interview for the context.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2019 11:23

it was a throwaway, joky response to a challenge from a very committed environmentalist.
