www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7298013/Meghan-Markles-organic-baby-shawl-used-swaddle-Archie-workers-earning-37-PENCE-hour.html

This is there top story. Meghan is using a cheap shawl & DM have found the factory it was made in.

She’s been criticised non stop for her spending, uses something cheap and the DM visit the sweatshop it was made in! I’m sorry but we are all guilty of this, very few people I’m sure track down where everything they buy is made and how much the staff are paid.

It’s just getting ridiculous how they’ll find literally anything to criticise.

If the DM want to expose sweat shops (something they care little about usually) they have the resources and man power to do so but they don’t give a shit they just want to go after Meghan.

Megan isn't doing enough for the women of Britain??? Has she not just had a baby? Maybe she's on the royal equivalent of maternity leave? One would certainly hope so.

ssd · 30/07/2019 12:59

I like the daily mail when I could do with a laugh
It's so utter crap it's funny

ssd · 30/07/2019 12:59

It's like a step up from the Beano, without the humour.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 30/07/2019 13:01

Piers Morgan is so eaten up with bitterness because MM dumped him. She didn't like you Piers; get over it.

Encyclo · 30/07/2019 13:02

They are despicable. I’m not sure what’s broken inside of Piers Morgan, but imagine submitting an article like that? It’s flat out bullying. Kate got her share, but it was nothing like this.

Now of course she’s being held up as a paragon of virtue, who cannot put a foot wrong. I wonder why? 🤔

derxa · 30/07/2019 13:02

This Vogue thing is a piece of pretentious shite. And no I'm not racist.
I'm just a bit befuddled by it all.

eurochick · 30/07/2019 13:06

Christ. So are we all supposed to trace every purchase back to source now? It's awful that workers around the world are exploited but the burden should not be on consumers to do this, however rich and privileged they may be. And of course the blanket could have been a gift. Are we supposed to vet all gifts received the same way?

The DM really is a vile rag.

pepperpot99 · 30/07/2019 13:07

A step up ssd - surely you mean several steps down? [laugh]

Moondust001 · 30/07/2019 13:07

I have no interest in Meghan Markle at all, nor anyone else in "royal", but for the record, £70 per month - what the seamstress gets paid, is the Rajastani equivalent of the Living Wage. It is therefore, for many, much better wages than many Indian workers get since the law is often flouted there. So this item qualifies as "fair traded". Sitting in the UK, 37p an hour may seem dreadful. It's only dreadful in the UK. In India it's a decentish wage for an unskilled worker.

I wonder how many of their journalists are as assiduous in checking out the sources of things they buy from developing countries, or, indeed, are even aware that India has wage regulation laws.

ODFOx · 30/07/2019 13:10

I did read that as it was linked on another site and I was surprised that Harrty+Meghan would do that.
Then, after describing it as a sweat shop in the headline, the article states that the factory pays well over the usual odds and are considered an excellent employer by their own employees. They found a couple to interview who were supporting their 2 non-working adult sons and their families on the two wages (which coincidentally are nearly twice the published Indian Living Wage) and hadn't been able to afford to finish building their house. They were living in poor conditions, but thev still said that the factory paid very well, just not enough for their circumstances.
I'd seen on MN that Meghan takes some bashing, but the whole tone of the article was batshit.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 30/07/2019 13:11

Are you a troll? It’s the largest newspaper in the country so talking about it is important. Just sticking your fingers in your ears saying “la la la” pretending it doesn’t exist isn’t going to help anything.

Yes.

And it is what it is, I'm asking no one to pretend it doesn't exist, just pointing out it has a readership of close to 30 million, so seems to be doing something right, even if most are reading it to complain.

And pretending it doesn't exist doesn't make it go away, see the Sun for proof.

ooooohbetty · 30/07/2019 13:11

Don't click on the stories in the DM. They only produce articles like that because people read them.

Oldraver · 30/07/2019 13:11

I had to goa and have a look at this so called 'sweatshop'

I have been in the sewing trade on and off for near on 38 years...and that workroom is better appointed than some of the places Ive worked in

Limpshade · 30/07/2019 13:15

They are really clutching at straws now.

That's not to say that the conditions in a sweatshop and the fact that most high street brands use them are insignificant issues, but the article isn't being used to highlight them. It's being used as another stick to beat "affluent woman" Meghan with.

The "related articles" are horrendous, too. "SHE asked to guest edit Vogue" and PM's "Me-me-Meghan" Hmm All just words that scream the phrase WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?!

Well, Daily Mail, I have an answer for you. SHE'S THE FUCKING DUCHESS OF SUSSEX NOW. GET OVER IT.

Phew, that felt good.

verticality · 30/07/2019 13:15

I think we should all care about sweatshops. I'm sure everyone on here agrees. What gets my goat is that the only time you'll see the Daily Fail care about any BME person is when they can use it to criticise another BME person. I fucking hate their "moral" tone - and can't believe anyone is stupid enough to take a lecture on ethics from a bunch of utterly shameless, coked-up charlatans.

CaptainJaneway62 · 30/07/2019 13:16

Hate filled, evil, click bait trash!
The sustained campaign of hatred led by the DM against this woman has gone way beyond just criticism.
Piers Morgan is well pd off...thought himself worthy of an invite to the Royal Wedding because he said "hi" once.. He is so miffed about that and he decides to be a total bitch about her!!
The sad thing is that a minority of imbeciles actually read this stuff and comment to agree with these bunch of evil brainless w
kers!

She gets slated for using a shawl that was made in India.
All the big clothing stores source all their products from the East. India, China, Taiwan etc
Long gone are the days of textiles actually being made in the UK.

This is not Freedom of the Press this is out and out online bullying.
They ruin peoples lives not just members of the RF but those of ordinary everyday people.
I hope someone has the power to bring this trash tabloid to bankruptcy one day. Angry

gingerbreadsprinkle · 30/07/2019 13:16

I feel so sad for her. I think she is getting attacked worse than any royal before and it's all rooted in racism. I seriously worry about what will be the outcome of all this hatred towards her.

Cinammoncake · 30/07/2019 13:18

Surely we have reached peak Meghan now. Who cares about any of this?

this

Hithere12 · 30/07/2019 13:20

All just words that scream the phrase WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?!

Yeah there’s definitely racist undertones there. I’ve actually on MN disagreed with people saying the coverage of her is racist, but there’s definitely a vibe of “who does she think she is?” Which Kate never had.

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 30/07/2019 13:22

I think all the bullying and bitching will come to a head and a statement by the palace will be issued as there's only so much one woman can take before she retaliates at the constant abuse and disgusting kerb licking newspaper stories.
Its not pleasant

Hithere12 · 30/07/2019 13:24

This Vogue thing is a piece of pretentious shite. And no I'm not racist

I don’t care if people criticise the Vogue thing but she’s got a top headline story on the DM crisitising her for using a blanket.

OP posts:
gingerbreadsprinkle · 30/07/2019 13:25

The issue I have with this is while it's not overtly racist, I imagine if a young English woman was in her place, doing the same things, would this be happening to her? I highly doubt it. I think of all the shady scenarios Prince Andrew has put the family in and he hasn't received 1/10 of the scrutiny that Meghan has.

Rachelover40 · 30/07/2019 13:25

The poor woman can't win, can she?

I sincerely hope Meghan doesn't read all the negative stuff in the media about her. Such a baptism of fire - the press were all over her for five minutes, then it changed (which we all knew would happen, it always does). It's unfair because she really doesn't appear to have put a foot wrong so far and she can't say anything back!

Piers Morgan is a vindictive dick.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/07/2019 13:25

absolutely vile and racist what they are doing to her.
Prince William made it very clear he and the family wouldn't tolerate a witch hunt on Kate- perhaps Harry could do the same for Meghan

ChicCroissant · 30/07/2019 13:26

I do think tracking down the manufacturer of the shawl was a step too far tbh. However, I did see an article about Mike Tindall on there the other day to be fair

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-7296975/Down-earth-Mike-Tindall-warned-quiet-royal-familys-business.html

Whoever is doing Meghan's PR is doing an utterly appalling job though. They should be advising against the Vogue stunt for a start. It is just gaffe after gaffe and most of them are easily avoidable.
