I would really like to hear the views of Boris supporters. I fully understand the anti-Boris arguments.

I agree, the rabble are abysmal.

I don't vote Tory but have a lot of respect for Grieve, Rory Stewart and a few others, even to some extent Theresa May. They do have some principles, which Johnson appears not to have.

Theresa May would have been better not standing as PM in 2016. If she had been taking over in normal times, I think she would have come across as dull, but reasonably competent.

MaintainTheMolehill · 26/07/2019 16:15

I can't answer personally but I know one Tory voter and he and his wife are over the moon Boris is PM. They voted to leave so believe he will deliver that.

Their reasoning is that they haven't been able to afford to have kids (both in well paid jobs) and they don't agree with people not working, immigrants, asylum seekers, coming to the UK and taking 'our' jobs and homes.
We are in Scotland so he they are the only opinions I have of Tory voters.

found that attitude unfathomable and downright frightening. These are our friends, allies and trading partners.

I know, it is staggering Confused

ChristOnAScooter · 26/07/2019 16:42

Oh another pointless thread. He is PM move on haters.

ineedaholidaynow · 26/07/2019 16:50

I’m not a hater. I just genuinely want to know how he is going to achieve everything he is saying.

Parliament and the EU aren’t suddenly going to change their minds because we suddenly have a new PM, doesn’t matter whether it’s Boris or someone else.

DuckWillow · 26/07/2019 16:57

So why do you think he’s good Christonabike?

I know lots of Tory voters who can’t stand him so it’s not unreasonable to ask people who DO like him why they do. He’s now our PM and nothing we can do about it. I just hope he proves me very wrong in his he progresses.

I do have relatives in Switzerland, Italy and Austria though....and we are a laughing stock among them.

Songsofexperience · 26/07/2019 17:03

The EU is scared, about bloody time.

People who write that are either professional trolls or professional idiots.

I am sorry but I find that hilarious, it is not an after school punch up, when you stand with your mates saying our ringleader is tougher than yours. Grin

lljkk · 26/07/2019 20:40

Gosh, EU is anything but scared.
They are fairly sure UK will come crawling back for a deal by early 2020.
The EU's misjudgement is how willfully stubborn UK is about stabbing itself to spite EU.
So maybe the crawling back won't happen until... 2021? 2022?
At which point, EU will put same WA back on table & Uk will finally accept it.
THEN UK can finally start to negotiate an actual trade deal with EU.
Given our terrible progress so far, * I * am scared that trade deals with EU may take form of lots of mini mediocre deals that are repeatedly renegotiated over time.
Then Brexit might actually be finished in about 2029.

Which is fine for most voters, Coz hey, "People knew what they were voting for."

Apparently Boris comments are a benchmark now

Grenfell effigy defendant Paul Bussetti's lawyer is arguing the bonfire night video does not amount to racial abuse, and is protected under free speech laws. And he's just played the Boris Johnson card...

He points out things Johnson has said to offend people. "None of these things cross the threshold for hate speech as they all emanate from the mouth of the man who is now Prime Minister. He hasn't been prosecuted for any of them. That tells you what is & isn't racist hate speech"

In Bussetti's video, one of the partygoers talks about "ninjas" in the burning tower effigy, referring to the figure of a Muslim woman. Bussetti's lawyer points out PM Johnson called them "letterboxes" and "bank robbers" and was not prosecuted.

Judge rejects bid by Bussetti to get the case thrown out. The Boris Johnson argument didn't work. Trial goes part-heard until next month when he will give his defence.

BJ's welcoming committee in Edinburgh today makes me prouder of my home city than I've ever been!

(Don't know how to link, but they booed him spectacularly despite his determination to avoid the public during his Scottish trip)

HelenaDove · 29/07/2019 19:31

I saw that His bodyguards must be costing a fucking fortune.

wijjjy · 29/07/2019 19:40

Because he won the election to be leader of the Conservative Party so as the leader of the governing party he is PM.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 29/07/2019 19:41

His bodyguards must be costing a fucking fortune.

I'm sure they are. He's an odious man. Truly indefensible. They'll have to pay anyone a fortune to want to protect him I'd guess!
