I would really like to hear the views of Boris supporters. I fully understand the anti-Boris arguments.

But I think its mostly to do with the fact he will actually finally deliver Brexit.

He’d struggle to deliver a fucking pizza.

What does he think will happen when Parliament blocks “no deal?” Because Parliament will.

I have no doubt that he will shut parliament down in prorogation if he thought there was a chance of embarrassing him and stopping a no-deal.

He terrifies me, he's far more interested in his pride than his country.

Enoughofthisweatheralready · 25/07/2019 16:28

It's delusional to think that only "woke lefties" have a problem with Boris Johnson. The membership might love him but I've yet to meet a single Conservative voter in real life who had a good word to say about him. I've consistently heard him called a buffoon, an idiot and a clown by people who have voted Conservative all their lives. These are people who idolized Thatcher and thought that Cameron was a great man (if maybe a little too liberal). My lifelong Tory-voting parents have always said that Johnson would be a joke as PM but that they weren't worried because the Tories would never be stupid enough to make him their leader. Anyone who thinks that having doubts about his ability to lead the country is a fringe view held by a handful of "SJWs" may well be in for a shock.

YouTheCat · 25/07/2019 16:45

Being PM is all that this man has been aiming for for years - and by any means possible.

Fibbke · 25/07/2019 17:02

They won't need to. He'll get a deal.

NCforthis2019 · 25/07/2019 17:12

He believes in the country. He will get us out of the EU - which is what was voted for. As much as I wanted Teresa to succeed, she was too far a remainer. Boris might be somewhat of a joker, and people laugh at him, call him names, make fun of him, but I do truly believe he means to take us out on the absolute best deal. I read today he’s withholding the divorce bill £39 billion? Unless the EU renegotiate a better deal - that’s pretty decent.

cardibach · 25/07/2019 17:13

And your opinion is that he will be bad for the future. Not everybody thinks that
I didn’t suggest otherwise, Nesssie (and crispy). I was just pointing out it’s pretty important stuff and it’s no wonder people get really worked up about it.
Fibbke he won’t get a deal, because the EU negotiating team have been disbanded, the negotiations are over, and they aren’t even back in session in time to meet before the end of October...Honestly, I don’t think people are paying attention. Or else they think Britain is so important everyone will drop everything g to stop us shooting ourselves in the foot. We aren’t.

NCforthis2019 · 25/07/2019 17:13

^^ to the PP who said she hasn’t met a ‘normal’ conservative voter who actually likes Boris, you must not know many voters. I know a fair few and most of them like him, and no, they’re not all old.

cardibach · 25/07/2019 17:14

Decent? Reneging in agreed payments? You have a different view of decency than I do. A bit...Trumpian. He’s good at not paying debts and bankrupting people too.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 17:19

There is a v slim chance he can put some lipstick on the pig (in parliamentary terms - I have no desire to be rude about mrs may) of Mays deal and get it through I suppose. But it’s not exactly something I’d bet my life savings on.

YouTheCat · 25/07/2019 17:20

The EU won't give him a deal.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 17:23

But they might give him some lipstick for his pig.
As I say though, not something to bet the farm on.

EmeraldShamrock · 25/07/2019 17:26

I also believe the EU won't give him a deal, they'll know from experience it'll be a waste of time, organising a new deal for it to be rejected.
Once bitten twice shy.

hotdogsummer · 25/07/2019 17:27

I like his hair and he doesn't take himself too seriously Wink But he is a clever guy. It's a shame he didn't want / get the job originally after Brexit as he has support.

I don't find this whole current political attitude very "British." We are a democracy, but it's fine to post vile stuff on social media about Boris or Theresa when they are are elected party. It doesn't mean I agree with everything. I don't. The social media stuff is bullying and I wouldn't expect it of my child let alone a voting aged adult.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 17:29

They think he will out personality Farage presumably. They've added the Brexit party vote and their vote and think it will give them a majority, so they're trying to win over those votes. They think the public love him. (Maybe a lot of them do, I've no idea)

TulipsTulipsTulips · 25/07/2019 17:29

I’m no Boris convert, but I do see the reasoning that he lead the Brexit campaign so he should now be accountable for making it happen. There is some logic to it. If he can’t deliver then surely there will be a general election and a major rethink.

Oblomov19 · 25/07/2019 17:34

MyFok I adore Jonathan Pie. GrinAnd that clip is brilliant!

Conkeee · 25/07/2019 17:35

I would say but ‘the caring left’ will pile in with nasty remarks and call me thick/uneducated just because it’s not their way of thinking. It’s pathetic tbh

The nastiest people I have encountered in the last year have been Corbynistas. They are on another level

YouTheCat · 25/07/2019 17:37

He wanted Gordon Brown out when his party elected him as their new leader when Blair stepped down. I don't see how this is any different. He has been elected by a small handful of people. These people do not represent the majority of the voting public.

fair point but what has it got to do with the OP.

LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2019 17:46

Personally I think he’s a dishonest, racist, misogynist, self serving scumbag. But this appears to be what the population want, so what can you do?

My MPs reasons for supporting Mr Johnson (quoted verbatim) after I urged her to vote for someone who can do detail (not the exact words). I don't agree with this response at all, but this may answer the OP.

Many thanks for your email about the leadership of the Conservative Party. It is very good of you to get in touch and let me have your views.

Throughout this process I have been conscious that having a vote on who will be the next Prime Minister is a serious responsibility. I reflected carefully on how to cast my vote, taking on board the input I have received from constituents.

I held a series of meetings with candidates to discuss the programme they would pursue if they were to become Prime Minister. Brexit has been an important part of that conversation, but I questioned the contenders on a range of other important matters for my constituency. For example, I have asked what action they will take to get more police on the beat; as well as delivering increased funding for schools in the next spending review.

I believe that Boris Johnson is the candidate most able to deliver these and other important policies for the UK.

As Mayor of London, he led from the centre-ground of British politics. His term at City Hall saw the murder rate fall by 50% and overall rates of crime came down by 20%. He secured major investment in the transport network, delivering a series of crucial upgrades to the underground network. Tube delays fell by 30%. The number of people killed on the roads also fell.

Boris presided over the 2012 Olympics, one of the greatest events ever staged in this country. I worked with him on this project, and I know the huge effort he put into making a spectacular success. He also promoted and expanded the London Living Wage. All of this was delivered whilst cutting taxes.

God, do you really think other countries will want to do any business at all with the UK after fuckwittery like that?

International reputations matter. Seems like the brexiteers will only cop that when they’ve pissed all over theirs.
