Where even is he - down the allotment?

He did a rally the day after the referendum . It was on the late bbc news and he had fire and things to say. I've not seen any of that since.
(He didn't mention Brexit though ; seemed irrelevant! )

BlueSkiesLies · 25/07/2019 16:52

@SinkGirl ok so I’m so gulaable and being misled by the media and JC is actually great and will save the Uk...

Still doesn’t matter. He still needs to go and let a more centre left leader that will be acceptable to the mainstream media lead labour to a general election victory.

I want to vote for labour. I just now find myself so far removed from the policy positions as the party has shifted under my feet. Oh and I can’t vote for a fucking leaver.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 16:56

The new Lib Dem leader is how I imagine a few mumsnetters look: she even says a few soundbites I've read on here!
She might mop up a lot of Remainer votes that Corbyn will lose.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 17:02

I guess the people who keep trotting out the unelectable line a) don’t realise it’s literally a plot line lifted from Thick Of It, and b) have very short memories about how close they came in the last GE despite everyone screaming the word unelectable every 30 seconds.

He is never never never going to win a GE. He didn't even win the last one and he was far more popular then than he is now, with far less problems than he's got now in his party. Add to that the intervening years of uselessness. He's not going to appeal to the centre ground. He's been crap on Brexit. You need to win over moderates and swing voters to win a GE

OP posts:
Fibbke · 25/07/2019 17:03

He's been like a rabbit in the headlights for years. Can't wait for him to go.

BelleSausage · 25/07/2019 17:04

Corbyn is hopeless he has to go.

Anyone who thinks he can win an election is kidding themselves. If he was going to win then he would have done in 2017. The situation now is worse and his poll ratings still don’t show that he can win.

I say this as a former member of the Labour Party who voted for him as leader. I bitterly regret that now.

Both he and Boris have the same essential flaw- they both value ideology and the interests of their tiny voter base over what is good for the country as a whole. We don’t need someone who never changes their mind. We need a pragmatic realist who can look beyond their own tribal squabbles.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:04

Cinnamoncake, I agree. The last two years have been brutal to all of them.
He will never be PM.

Jillyhilly · 25/07/2019 17:05

Worthy speeches and handouts at ralllies for people who already support the cause aren’t going to fire up the masses though are they?

I’m not a Corbyn fan but I can genuinely see that it’s incredibly frustrating not to be able to get the word out if you believe in the policies. Maybe they need to look at what Boris or Blair did to become so popular (or at least incredibly well known) and maybe do the same for JC ?

Here’s my Boris list

  • Regular appearances on popular news shows making people laugh
  • An ability to attract attention wherever he goes
  • seems to enjoy interacting with the media or at least he used to
  • Regular amusing well-written articles in or editor of leading newspapers and magazines (factually incorrect in parts and often quite insulting but hey ho)
  • lots of slightly undefinable eccentricities. These may be contrived but the whole package does somehow seem authentic
  • sense of humour
  • notable moptop hair

Ok I’m out of ideas now but maybe there’s something in there. Then again maybe not. “Funny” ’seems to feature quite largely, is that something JC could work with?

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:07

I think that Jeremy's cabbages are funnier than he will ever be!
That list is fab as it sums up politics today.
Style over substance; have a gimmick etc etc. Boris has done it all and it has worked.
The lying bit can be airbrushed out it seems.

Nappyvalley15 · 25/07/2019 17:07

Corbyn is terrible. Not sure how he sleeps at night knowing how badly he is letting the country down with the lack of decent opposition. Esp as we have the hard right in government now.
Jo swinson will not win an election either. Not until she figures out that a woman is an adult human female.
We are screwed ☹

SummerSeasoning · 25/07/2019 17:08

Never do funny if its forced.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:09

Us mumsnetters need to go and have a meet up with J C and tell him like it is.
Nobody else seems to want to.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2019 17:10

Weebitawks:

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/03/labours-pockets-of-anti-semitism-the-evidence/

To be fair, not all of these come down to Corbyn directly, though many do - and the vast majority have taken place and been tolerated under his stewardship

SummerSeasoning · 25/07/2019 17:11

Didn,t sources say MPs have tried but he is very obstinate? Its his consistent trait.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:12

Kidnap him? Gently tell him it's game over?
I will cheer and jump about the day he finally shifts off out of it.
Not holding my breath

noodlenosefraggle · 25/07/2019 17:13

He didn't mention Brexit though ; seemed irrelevant!

He's great when preaching to his own crowd. The problem is that there arent enough of them to get him into power. He needs to persuade others that he knows what hes talking about. Whatever he says will be predicated by what he is going to do about Brexit if he wins an election. He is a Brexiteer, John McDonnell is a Brexiteer. Why? What are his reasons? Does he think the poor will be better off out of the EU? Why does he think that? Hes had 40 years to think about it. Why did he not campaign for Brexit when he had the chance if he genuinely feels the working class will be better off out of the EU?
He's running scared of Momentum so he wont say what he's thought for the last 40 years. He knows they would have him out on his ear within minutes. If hes changed his mind, why did he not even bother campaigning in the Labour heartlands and explaining the benefits of being in the EU during the referendum? Most of the problem is that nobody knows what any of them think because they haven't bothered to explain themselves one way or the other.

Trickyteens · 25/07/2019 17:14

I always liked him. But where the fuck is he????

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2019 17:15

He did a rally the day after the referendum ... He didn't mention Brexit though ; seemed irrelevant!

Perhaps Momentum hadn't yet been in touch to tell him what to think?

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:16

He was around the other day but it was the usual chatter.
Theresa told him to go but his very thick skinned.
Agree that nobody knows what labour stands for.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:18

Momentum seem a shadowy bunch.
They don't help matters either.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/07/2019 17:21

Just his apparent loyalty to his attack dog Chris Williamson would be reason enough to get rid of Corbyn for me. I've worked personally alongside Williamson and seen the way he operates - and it ain't pretty, which has no doubt contributed to his in-out status in the party

However I suspect he knows where an awful lot of bodies are buried, so is probably Teflon

Theknacktoflying · 25/07/2019 17:27

Boris is only interested in Boris and what is good for Boris.
Jeremy Corbyn is at least misguided but looks beyond his nose.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:30

I'm sorry to say this as I am not a Tory but Boris has charisma. It's how you've got to be these days. Theresa May had a dour staid look that was easy to mock and the whole Maybot thing summed her up. Her forced dancing routine was cringe.
David Cameron had the ability to make people listen to him ( early on but not to vote remain sadly) he could do the 'everyman' bit.
Same with Blair.
If Johnson had backed remain none of this would have happened ( I do believe this)
Poor Gordon just struggled. His attempt at smiling made him look weird!
Politics is hard going and never easy.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 17:31

Us mumsnetters need to go and have a meet up with J C and tell him like it is.

MNers the new 'men in grey suits' Grin

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 17:33

We could show up with mumsbet scarves on. He needs someone to tell him to step down. Sooner rather than later.
