Will it hit 39C in London? Will the pavements melt? Or am I being unreasonable to think the temperature record for the UK will be broken today? :)

I think it will be at about 5pm if it happens.

Apparently it already hit 25C in Surrey at 7am (!)

24 where i am at the moment

CuppaSarah · 25/07/2019 08:43

It's already very hot here in Berkshire. I've rushed around all morning like a loon to get my jobs done before it gets too hot. DD is at a holiday camp all morning, hoping the fact it's all under trees means it's not too bad.

Worst case we'll spend the afternoon in the air-conditioned softplay nearby

wendz86 · 25/07/2019 08:44

I think it will . Trains already being cancelled in anticipation .

skybluee · 25/07/2019 08:44

It's about 23 here (black country). Have all of the windows and balcony open to try and get cool air in before shutting everything up for the day in a bit.

23 here. Ugh hate this time of year haha

MashedSpud · 25/07/2019 08:45

24c here.

I’ve put two 2L bottles of water in the freezer to put in front of the fans during the hottest part of the day.

Hobbes8 · 25/07/2019 08:46

I’m on the south coast and it was 22 degrees when I went to walk the dogs on the beach at 5am and 25 degrees when I got back at 6. There’s usually a fresh breeze down there but it was very still - it’ll be stifling later.

newmomof1 · 25/07/2019 08:46

@skybluee I'm in the Black Country too. It's supposed to hit 38 in Stourbridge

Cornettoninja · 25/07/2019 08:48

My phone is telling me it’s 24 now and due to be 27 by 9am. I hate it. Work is like a furnace and at home it’s a battle to keep dd cool and out of the sun.

It’d be fine on a holiday but sucks when real life has to happen.

jaseyraex · 25/07/2019 08:48

Its 20 where I am in Glasgow right now. It's to be 30 at its highest here today mid afternoon, which is high enough for me! Freezing bottles of water in anticipation and getting the paddling pool blown up for the kids, the dogs, and myself Grin

Alwaysgrey · 25/07/2019 08:49

Essex here and it was 25 when I walked the dog at 6am.

Songofsixpence · 25/07/2019 08:50

I’m on the south coast. It’s 25 here already but I’m by the sea so have a nice breeze

Took doggo down the beach at around 5:30am and it was showing 22 degrees then.

BobTheFishermansWife · 25/07/2019 08:51

24 here in East Midlands. Due to get up to 36 as the day goes on.... How do people keep newborns cool in this? Especially with breastfeeding when you're skin to skin and sharing body heat??

Sandsnake · 25/07/2019 08:52

I hope it breaks the record. If it’s going to be this hot then I want to at least say I was in London for the hottest day! Although the train’s already on the go slow coming in so God knows what they’ll be like coming home. We live in Surrey and I have a feeling that DS’ nursery might have a bit of a tricky day with them all in this heat.

FrenchyQ · 25/07/2019 08:52

We've been on holiday this week in a caravan with our dogs, we're supposed to be coming home this morning but decided to drive back late last night. Very glad we did as its already 25 here this morning.

IvyandStan · 25/07/2019 08:52

27 here🥵

anon812 · 25/07/2019 08:54

27 in London at the moment and not even 9am. I am working from home and not leaving the house- have cranked up air con and hoping to lay low for the day

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2019 08:55

YANBU to think current records could be broken today.

YABU to tag this thread #HottestDayOfAllTime because with the more extreme weather associated with climate change, I wouldn't bet it holds for many years.

Fuzzyspringroll · 25/07/2019 08:55

We might get over 40 degrees today, but we're in Germany.
Have just returned from the UK, have washing and food shopping to do, for an appointment at the bank and one to talk about our new kitchen. It'll be hot but fine. We had 38/39 degrees the week before we broke up for summer holidays and lessons were still happening. Haven't seen any melted pavements, yet.

littlemissalwaystired · 25/07/2019 08:56

Just think yourselves lucky you're not trying to sleep for night shifts in this heat! Night 3 of 3 tonight and sleep has been HARD.

SouthernComforts · 25/07/2019 08:58

I feel for everyone working in the heat today, especially paramedics etc. with all their gear and uniforms.

Fuzzyspringroll · 25/07/2019 08:59

Just checked and it's 35 degrees at the moment. Our thermometer is in the shade.
DH has just gone outside to water the garden...☀️😎

skybluee · 25/07/2019 09:01

No I don't think it will hold for many years, I think summers and days like this will become more common... but I do think the all time record could go today (maybe!). Cool(ish) air still coming in.

OP posts:
FudgeBrownie2019 · 25/07/2019 09:01

I got up super early to take the dogs to the woods for a walk and by the time we got there it was 25, so we came home and chucked them in the pool.

It's set to hit around 37/38 today so we've cancelled our plans and will just chill out in the pool, read and keep away from humanity.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2019 09:06

It's 31 on my outside thermometer (London)

Fucking hell.
