Will it hit 39C in London? Will the pavements melt? Or am I being unreasonable to think the temperature record for the UK will be broken today? :)

I think it will be at about 5pm if it happens.

Apparently it already hit 25C in Surrey at 7am (!)

Come to the east coast of Scotland where we are forecast a high of 19! Currently cloudy and about 15.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/07/2019 09:10

It's fantastic! I have brought my laptop outside and now working in the garden. 21deg at 6am, now 28 where I am.

It's a one day spectacular so making the most of it.

BookwormMe2 · 25/07/2019 09:11

North London, Zone 2. Nest thermostat is saying 27 degrees now, predicting 37 by 5pm.

BeerandBiscuits · 25/07/2019 09:14

Just think yourselves lucky you're not trying to sleep for night shifts in this heat! Night 3 of 3 tonight and sleep has been HARD.

littlemiss - huge sympathy for you.
I once had to work 7 nights on a very busy ICU in a heat wave. Was so desperate for sleep that I squeezed a mattress into small bathroom as it was the coolest room in the house, also covered the window with tinfoil to keep out the light.

PetrichorRain · 25/07/2019 09:16

28 degrees here. I've got all the curtains, blinds and windows shut on the sunny side of the house, windows open and curtains ajar on the shady side. That helped yesterday but it was a bit cooler yesterday!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/07/2019 09:27

Sorry I am old school, don't do celsius but my laptop is showing, right now, 76F

I plan to go to the shop, stock up on some more water (already have ice) and come home and stay home.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2019 09:28

Back in the day, computers would tend not to work beyond a civilised temperature, they got to live in air conditioned 'machine rooms'. I guess laptops etc now are built to operate more or less anywhere in the world.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/07/2019 09:28

Oh South East London

MaMaMaMySharona · 25/07/2019 09:29

I'm fuming because they finally got the aircon working in my office so I'm sitting here in what feels like a freezer cabinet. I want to be outside in the sun!

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/07/2019 09:35

North London, weirdly not feeling too hot. Friend and I went for a morning run at 6:30am and we commented at the time that we were surprised how balmy it was.

PortiaCastis · 25/07/2019 09:37

I'm in Cornwall and the temp is 20° not expected to get above 22 today and forecast for 18+19 fortomorrow and with the wind coming off the sea at present my garden is quite pleasant this morning.

Grin I have set up a (surprisingly effective) sunshade for it out of an old calendar; and I won't be out here much after 11 or so, so it'll get some respite.

EmrysAtticus · 25/07/2019 09:40

In Devon and it's 23 but not expected to get above 26 and there is quite a strong breeze so really quite pleasant. Have already done the beach while it was quiet and will head to an outdoor pool this afternoon :)

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2019 09:45

North London, weirdly not feeling too hot

I heard on the radio the hot air is coming from the deserts so maybe not too humid? I hope so, it's humidity which makes heat intolerable.

Treaclepie19 · 25/07/2019 09:45

West Midlands here and it's already 27°c.
Just hoping my husband can get his normal train home.

I'm hiding at home.

mintich · 25/07/2019 09:47

29 here in Essex

IgnoranceIsStrength · 25/07/2019 09:52

27 in midlands and I'm off to go trampolining with the kids inside an industrial warehouse! Prepaid so we are going regardless but really not feeling it.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 25/07/2019 09:59

26 where I am in the East Midlands and I'm wilting already. I don't cope well with heat generally and am much more of a winter baby, so I'm just longing for today and tonight to be over and a return to more average temperatures over the weekend.

I wish I were a sun lover as I'd love to be able to go out and soak up the heat like some do, but I'm definitely not built for it.

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 25/07/2019 10:01

I've got 32 in Surrey already 🥵

Pinktinker · 25/07/2019 10:06

It has definitely been this hot in London before. I think it was in 2003 if I’m remembering correctly, I remember those tube journeys being living hell and I was only a child.

whothedaddy · 25/07/2019 10:10

29 degrees currently in Suffolk. The walk to work this morning was lovely.
I plan to get my run in at lunch time as after work may be too hot even for me

ainslieb · 25/07/2019 10:11

33 here in wimbledon! I've been out already to do my jobs and will be staying in until about 3pm which would be fine, but that's apparently the hottest part of the day!

Thegracefuloctopus · 25/07/2019 10:15

Ive sent ds to nursery. They csn a lot more water play and cooling activites and distraction than i ever could today. We've just got over a stomsch bug so ive blitzed the house early before its too hot and ive got all windows and doors open already. Saving the fan for later. Ds will go from nursery to car to paddling pool to bed tonight. Keeping door and curtains shut but windows open in his room to keep it cool and dark. Hoping ive done enough!

skybluee · 25/07/2019 10:23

Batten the hatches! Just shut all of the windows, balcony and the vents. 25.5c inside. Not much more I can do now, just wait and see what happens. Hope you are all managing in the heat, especially anyone who has any health conditions.

HalyardHitch · 25/07/2019 10:27

My hallway is currently 27.5 degrees and the house gets boiling in the afternoon when the sun hits it. I bloody love it, but then I'm lucky enough to be at home with my boys and the paddling pool.

I really feel for people working in this heat. My husband has been working outside until yesterday doing manual work. He's still doing manual work but inside. I feel really sorry for him
