Will it hit 39C in London? Will the pavements melt? Or am I being unreasonable to think the temperature record for the UK will be broken today? :)

I think it will be at about 5pm if it happens.

Apparently it already hit 25C in Surrey at 7am (!)

Air con at work but ugh when you leave the building. Dd and i are going food shopping later in cool Sainsbury's and then praying for thunder

DCIRozHuntley · 25/07/2019 10:30

@BobTheFishermansWife I'm breastfeeding a 4 month old in the East Midlands... I've got a damp muslin between us and have been giving him cool (not cold) baths every few hours. I've also got a spray bottle and a Thermos with cold water / ice cubes in to drink. It's going to be a long day!

BobTheFishermansWife · 25/07/2019 10:35

@DCI I agree it's going to be a very long one!
I'm stealing those idea's, I've been wiping him down with a cool flannel but a damp muslin between us will probably be smarter! Thank you!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2019 10:39

Keeping door and curtains shut but windows open in his room to keep it cool and dark. Hoping ive done enough!

If it's hotter outside than in, close the windows too.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/07/2019 10:41

Also in Germany. 38 yesterday, supposed to be hotter tomorrow. Kids summer camp have arranged for a visit from fire brigade for a water fight this afternoon!

Crunchymum · 25/07/2019 10:41

31c in central London at the moment!

Tabitha005 · 25/07/2019 10:44

31 here near Sevenoaks. Tissues under tits weather.

growlingbear · 25/07/2019 10:51

33 in our part of Surrey right now. I have a deadline and I just can't make my brain think. May need to surround myself with tower fans.

SpeedyShutter · 25/07/2019 10:59

It's around 25°C here at the mo, due to rise to around 35°C by 3pm and then cool down. The promise of rain this afternoon has gone though - earlier on it said it'd rain from 3-6 pm. Now there's only a 30% chance of rain for an hour at about 6pm. I hate being too hot!

PentreBachCymraeg · 25/07/2019 11:12

25 degrees here, one crappy fan at work, wearing uniform and doing my best to keep hydrated and be nice to rude tourists Grin

starfishcoffee · 25/07/2019 11:12

It's 28°c at the moment here, south east. Forecast to be around 33 all afternoon - think I'll take toddler DS to the seaside as hoping it'll be a bit cooler.

jennymanara · 25/07/2019 11:17

31 degrees at moment, supposed to get up to 35 degrees.

Asta19 · 25/07/2019 11:18

Currently 33 outside in North London but I am in my room with the air con on so a nice 22 in here. I will not be venturing out all day.

MitziK · 25/07/2019 11:20

Downstairs thermostat (in shade, cool wall) says 30 degrees.

Fan temperature gauge (in shade, back of house) says 34 degrees. Bastard thing never went below 32 all night - as I lay there at 3.30am with a wet towel draped over me.

Not setting foot in the front bedroom again. Or out the front (southeast facing, full sun since dawn, house sitting on a lovely bed of sand and block paving - like a prehistoric storage heater).

I have discovered that sitting with my feet immersed in a bowl of cold water is helping somewhat.

[making notes for when perimenopause starts]

GPatz · 25/07/2019 11:20

34 here in Surrey

putthetellyon · 25/07/2019 11:20

We live in Surrey and I have a feeling that DS’ nursery might have a bit of a tricky day with them all in this heat.

Does the nursery have air con?

jennymanara · 25/07/2019 11:22

I have worked with young kids on very hot days. The only issue with it IME is that the kids are still active and running about, and the adults just want to sit somewhere quietly in the shade, but can't. It is much harder on the staff than the kids.

BeanBag7 · 25/07/2019 12:32

Usually I complain that our living room never gets the sun. Today I'm quite happy about it! We went to a soft play this morning which was air conditioned but this afternoon visiting a relative in hospital which will probably be stifling - I feel awful for those stuck in hospitals in this heat

purplelass · 25/07/2019 12:53

33 degrees here in Berkshire (38 in my car!)

Last time it was this hot was indeed 2003. I remember it well at 7 months pregnant... not fun!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/07/2019 13:03

I never did make it inside. Still sitting here under the umbrella avec laptop, although currently eating a rocket ice lolly! Garden is S facing so I am right under the sun

newmomof1 · 25/07/2019 13:10

We've just had an industrial sized fan delivered 😂

IvyandStan · 25/07/2019 13:11

36 here now. Set to top at 38 within the hour.

VioletCharlotte · 25/07/2019 13:17

It's 33 here at the moment (Hampshire).

Forecast for tomorrow is 23 and rain. I cannot wait!!

Triskaidekaphilia · 25/07/2019 13:17

35 degrees here. I'm heavily pregnant, due today in fact, and I wanted to walk down to the shops to stay active and help labour along, but I'm worried I'll pass out!

skybluee · 25/07/2019 13:54

Breaking news, it just broke the UK July all time temperature record, 36.9C at Heathrow, London!
