Will it hit 39C in London? Will the pavements melt? Or am I being unreasonable to think the temperature record for the UK will be broken today? :)

I think it will be at about 5pm if it happens.

Apparently it already hit 25C in Surrey at 7am (!)

Yep 37 here about half an hour outside London

Seeing the words "in this heat" across practically every single MN thread today has irrationally annoyed me.

Like people won't understand unless they explain that they can't do x "in this heat".

It's as annoying as "HUGE salad", in fact.

So it didn't break the record for all time but it broke the July one. Cold air starting to come in, raining now and looks like it's cooling down from tomorrow, but hopefully still nice and summery. Hope you all managed OK in the heat, goodnight :).

Thank god the rain has just hit here in SW London. Lightning and thunder has woken me up. It was 39 on my car thermometer at 4pm yesterday! Last year, I remember it was in the low 30s for months, but yesterday was something else in London. So humid too.

We're all doomed.

it was 36 on the thermometer (in the shade) in my garden when I got home yesterday afternoon. I also stupidly walked home after spending the day working on what felt like the set of Dante's Inferno.

Did it do it after all?
