He doesn’t have the capabilities to negotiate/sell in a deal.

Either he’ll oversee a crash out.

Or if parliament don’t let that happen (here’s hoping), we’ll end up with a general election.

And then who the fuck knows?

Alsohuman · 25/07/2019 13:10

The country didn’t vote to leave the EU @urbanlife, 37% of the electorate did. For God’s sake get your facts straight if you’re going to spout your propaganda here, there and everywhere.

Iggly · 25/07/2019 13:12

Everyone knew what they were voting for. Everyone accepted the outcome would be definitive

That’s actually bullshit.

Research done before the referendum showed that voters didn’t know and they wanted clear independent information on what the outcomes would mean.

That information was not forthcoming

So no, they didn’t know.

LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2019 13:15

Everyone knew what they were voting for. Everyone accepted the outcome would be definitive

And this really is the stupidest comment I’ve read on her today. Congratulations.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 13:15

To be fair to TM , she did try to get the WA through and leave with a dignified exit.
I'm not a fan but she must feel a bit gutted about how she was treated.
They said to the party members on Tuesday ' please treat the new leader a bit better'
Says it all really.

bizmum1 · 25/07/2019 13:21

I'm also clearly in the minority here but I am glad to see Boris in number 10 and I believe he'll do a good job for the country.

Alsohuman · 25/07/2019 13:22

Do you, dear? That’s nice.

bizmum1 · 25/07/2019 13:25

I do Alsohuman dear and I agree, it is nice in so many ways :)

GoshLookAtTheTime · 25/07/2019 13:29

So much hysteria on this thread. Yawn.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 13:35

Biz mum, you are in the minority here as mumsnet is very left leaning ( mostly)

Boris is saying and doing the right things : soundbites, enthusiasm, gung ho mentality.
I can see why people feel a bit more optimistic. I'm not myself , ( I'm old and cynical) but his plan seems to be working and I suspect that there is a media trained person behind him also pulling the strings somewhere.
A few policies sounded good but I'm still sceptical!
Have to see how it goes.

Cinammoncake · 25/07/2019 13:38

I disagree - I think they're more moderate/centrist

bizmum1 · 25/07/2019 13:43

The80sweregreat - I think you sound very balanced and sensible. I agree, there no doubt is a media trained person behind him and that's a good thing. In fact, the people around him are essential to his success. He has many great qualities - determined, highly intelligent, charming and with the right team around him to give the right support and advice, I believe he'll do well for this country.
I know mumsnet is very left wing and so are lots of my pals in real life but we respect each others views (avoid talking politics lol)

merrymouse · 25/07/2019 13:48

Biz mum, you are in the minority here as mumsnet is very left leaning

I agree that people who contribute to political threads on mumsnet tend to be more left than right wing.

However, I'd challenge anyone to explain Boris' opinion on anything. He doesn't really do policy, he does soundbites.

busyhonestchildcarer · 25/07/2019 13:56

It as some like to think may be fine after leaving the E.U but what if its not.Who suffers the most? It wont be Johnson or Mogg,Farage or Patel it will be those with very little who hoped coming out would bring them a better quality of life but that wasnt because of the EU it was the policies of this government. When it all goes wrong where will these MPs be? In their retirement homes around Europe😂

merrymouse · 25/07/2019 13:56

Boris is saying and doing the right things : soundbites, enthusiasm, gung ho mentality.

Soundbites and gung ho mentality are not the things you need to negotiate complicated treaties. They are the things that lead you to spend millions on a pointless bridge that never gets built.

I'd question 'enthusiasm', because it's very clearly part of his act and something he uses to silence legitimate concern.

Alsohuman · 25/07/2019 13:57

On the after dinner speaking circuit and writing articles for right wing newspapers.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 14:00

I'm trying to be a bit more on the fence lately over Brexit as my brother and I disagree on politics and I don't want a rift over some thing out of our control. He thinks I've been brainwashed by the remain 'camp' and he is a rank ' hard Brexit leaver ' ! We agree to disagree. It's sad that the two camps can't see eye to eye , but I don't think they ever will do. Oddly enough he voted for the EEC! I was too young to vote then.

A centre left leader would do for me but nothing is ever perfect in politics.

People on these threads are far more clued up than I am so I've learnt a lot.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 25/07/2019 14:00

Yep I don't think soundbites and enthusiasm will put food on the table for the poorer people in our society.

Johnson is in it for himself, no-one else. Most Conservatives are insulated from poverty and hardship.
I think things will get harder - less funding for health, social care, education, public services, and the impacts of austerity will worsen over the next decade, not that anyone in power will really care.

I hope I'm wrong, I hope we see real action on climate change to reduce business emissions, I hope we see more money for hospitals, prisons and schools, I hope benefits increase and public spending increases, I hope job opportunities arise and more young people can access education.
If that all happens, thanks to the Conservatives, I will gladly bake and eat many portions of humble pie.
But I will bide my time and meanwhile hope my family don't get sick or disabled, can keep their jobs and their schools.

merrymouse · 25/07/2019 14:02

Everyone knew what they were voting for. Everyone accepted the outcome would be definitive.

If this were the case the ERG would have been happy with May's withdrawal agreement and we would have already left.

Lweji · 25/07/2019 14:11

Even Brexiter MPs can't agree on what kind of Brexit they want, how did voters know what they were voting for?

Lweji · 25/07/2019 14:13

I think they're more moderate/centrist

Yes. It's a sad state of affairs when moderate/centrist people and opinions are classed as left leaning or more than leaning.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 14:14

It’s a shame mn has so many die hard deranged remainers. It cancels out all sensible, informative debate.

TuesdaySunshine · 25/07/2019 14:14

So we're leaving the EU in order to protect the free market opportunities of British sex workers?

I think I've heard it all now.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 14:17

we can certainly agree on the kind of Brexit we are looking for. Leavers simply want to exit. Full stop. Doesn’t matter how we do it ( as long as we are actually leaving and not pretending to aka the WA)
Any genuine exit will do. Trust me.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 14:17

There is nothing centre ground on this thread. Confused
