That grown men don’t look good in skinny jeans?

My friend’s brother, good looking slimish bloke in his 40’s, usually wears bootleg or straight leg jeans that he looks good in. Today he was wearing skinny jeans and it was HORRIBLE. All tight down his leg and he'd suddenly developed these weird womans hips …. I couldn’t help but shudder. I’m not a fan of anyone male or female above 14 years old in the skinnies, and I'm not trying to be funny. But seriously… am I the only person in the world who thinks they look particularly terrible on grown blokes???!!.

Especially when they finish at the ankles and have no socks on.
Each to their own and all that but it's not a fashion that works for everyone. (E.g I would never wear leggings and a crop top as I know I would look like an a orange shit)

gluteustothemaximus · 22/07/2019 01:24

Skinny jeans on men do not look good. Surely they can't be good for them either, all tight and squashed.

WashingMyHair247 · 22/07/2019 01:26

Looks perfectly fine on many, many men. Looks awful on some men. Looks perfectly fine on many, many women. Looks awful on some women.

Ditto for people in general.

I look awful in them but my brother looked cool. My shape is far, far too shapely even under my several layers of fat. And my OH looks wrong in them because he's very overweight too. But we know loads of people even older than us who wear them and look nice. Depends what you wear them with.

CuntyMcBollocks · 22/07/2019 01:38

It's a personal preference. I think men look quite strange in skinny jeans, especially without socks (shudder!), but I also think some women look strange in them, including myself as I have extraordinarily skinny ankles, but I like wearing them anyway as they are so comfy.

Live and let live I say.

DontCallMeShitley · 22/07/2019 02:02

So many people of all ages, shapes and sizes wear them and only a few look good.

There is a boy in my road, about 10 I think, who wears them, he is a well build lad, apart from his legs and he looks like an inflatable on 2 sticks, I hope he isn't doing himself any harm because they are really tight around his bits.

Men with skinny legs of any age, no matter how good looking they are, lose any appeal if they look like they have pipe cleaners for legs. Ditto the fashion for shrunken jackets.

HennyPennyHorror · 22/07/2019 02:05

Oh YANBU! My friend "dresses" her DH...she chooses ALL his clothing Hmm and he's well over 6 feet and she always buys him skinny jeans. Looks like a spider.

Her poor DS was rammed in them too from about age 3 and he still wore nappies! Looked so restrictive and uncomfortable!

AlbertWinestein · 22/07/2019 02:31

The sockless thing has finally hit the US and, OMG! It is freakin ugly. Especially with dress shoes.

avamiah · 22/07/2019 02:39

In my opinion skinny jeans look terrible on everybody and it doesn’t matter what size you are or how skinny or not skinny your legs are.

Durgasarrow · 22/07/2019 02:51

YANBU

RogueV · 22/07/2019 02:52

YANBU

Longdistance · 22/07/2019 02:56

Yanbu. I also cannot stand this trend of no socks with formal shoes on men, and the trousers are swinging above their ankles 🤢 just as bad as wearing socks and sandals. Call the fashion police.

ILearnedItFromABook · 22/07/2019 03:13

I hate skinny jeans. Not a good look for most people (myself included, I'm sure).

I guess that's the type that were fashionable for a period of my youth, because I remember having a horror of any loose denim around my legs (erroneously believing it made me look fat) and preferring jeans so tapered that I had to force my foot through the ankle hole. Fortunately, fashion changed and I discovered that jeans don't have to be painted on.

...And now I'm old enough to not give a fig for fashion, so I'll never "have" to wear skinny jeans again, no matter how fashionable they may be. One of the few joys of getting older is just not caring! Wink

Monty27 · 22/07/2019 03:18

I think it's a really cool look.

Bluesheep8 · 22/07/2019 05:52

My DP is very slim and looks great in them. He dresses very youthfully for his age. They suit his shape. He looks dreadful in chinos, which is what many people would probably say a man of his age "should" be wearing. There are no rules apart from wear what suits you, male or female

slipperywhensparticus · 22/07/2019 06:04

Saw a chap in Tesco screamingly tight white jeans that were faintly see through no underwear I'm not sure which is worse having your undies on show or visibly wearing nothing...in Jean's....is that not painful?

Jurassicmuma · 22/07/2019 06:10

Yanbu I've yet to see a man look good in them

boredboredboredboredbored · 22/07/2019 06:10

Same as bluesheep My dp is 52 and wears them. Not the skin tight ones but slightly looser. I think he looks fab in them.

Doublevodka · 22/07/2019 06:17

Boys look ok in them. Men look ridiculous.

Sarcelle · 22/07/2019 06:22

Parsnip legs.

velocitygirl7 · 22/07/2019 06:24

Dh wears them and looks great but like me he's slim, so we both suit the shape of skinny jeans.
I personally think chino style trousers look dreadful on men, I guess we all have different tastes Grin

ThatFineRain · 22/07/2019 06:28

My DH looks great in them actually. He is no fashion icon but he is extremely slender. When I met him he was wearing baggy clothes because he felt insecure about his weight. I actually introduced him to the skinny/slim cut jeans because he can get away with wearing them! They fit him beautifully. I agree you need to be the right shape, like with any fashion, and have the right cut. He would never wear them without socks. They just look like normal jeans on him!

MustardScreams · 22/07/2019 06:31

Better than red chinos and a bloody tweed jacket. The only good thing about this outfit is it’s very obvious who to avoid at weddings and parties.

ainslieb · 22/07/2019 06:33

My 60 year old FIL wears them and it's honestly so awkward. Looks horrendous

ForalltheSaints · 22/07/2019 07:10

I am a man. I agree with the OP and never wear them.

SimonJT · 22/07/2019 07:17

It depends on the person, they really really suit some guys.
