Husband tried to 'soak' the toastie maker in the sink

Is it broken?
Is there any hope?
I just had a massive go at him to being stupid enough to put an electrical appliance in the sink- it has a plug!

He is upset that i had a go at him but now I either have to get a new one or go without.

Aibu for having a go? He was trying to help....

The whole thing?

StayDetermined · 21/07/2019 18:22

Oh dear. I’ve the electrics have been immersed I’d say it’s dead.

I’d also send him out to buy a new one.

herculepoirot2 · 21/07/2019 18:24

Yes, I wouldn’t try plugging that in again. But it’s an honest (if slightly ridiculous) mistake. Don’t be too hard on him.

ohcanada · 21/07/2019 18:24

Wtf!!! Get on Amazon now

Cheeserton · 21/07/2019 18:25

What. A. Dunce.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 21/07/2019 18:26

What a bloody pillock.

Make him replace with one that has removable trays...

Grimbles · 21/07/2019 18:27

'I was only trying to help' isnt a universal get out of jail free card. I would expect a grown arse man to have enough intelligence to know that electrical appliances dont go in the sink.

RubbingHimSourly · 21/07/2019 18:28

Fucking hell 😂😂😂

britnay · 21/07/2019 18:28

but now I either have to get a new one or go without

A new husband, right? ;)

YouTheCat · 21/07/2019 18:28

I have one with removable plates. Much easier to keep clean.

ChristineBaskets · 21/07/2019 18:28

What a div.

Coffeetablejunk · 21/07/2019 18:30

Sorry I clicked yabu by accident- your def yanbu! My dh has done this before with George Forman Shock

SecretNutellaFix · 21/07/2019 18:31

He wasn't trying to help.

He was doing a task badly so he wouldn't have to do it again.

It's basic common sense that you don't put anything electrical in to water.
And he is the one who gets to purchase you a new one. My DH broke the cat's bowl this morning- he immediately said that he'd go and buy her a new one when he dropped me at work this morning. No defensiveness, just a moment of carelessness which he rectified without sulking.

Igetknockeddownbutgetupagain · 21/07/2019 18:32

britnay Grin

What a wally. My Dad has always done things like that, he’s an incredibly intelligent man but every now and then he has a blip Grin

RubbingHimSourly · 21/07/2019 18:33

I think we're all capable of doing stupid things when we're on a roll.........I once stuck my finger in a plugged in kettle to see if the water had boiled.

Not my finest moment, and I got a nasty shock to prove it. 🙄 But at the time I was on autopilot defrosting the fridge and wiping the walls / floor down at the same time so just didn't think.

Boomwhatwasthis · 21/07/2019 18:35

Boot his sorry arse out!

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 21/07/2019 18:36

Everyone knows electrics and water dont mix. He was being a dunce. Buy a new one now out of his bank account

RubbingHimSourly · 21/07/2019 18:36

Bloody hell, the threads barely been posted and we already have one tin pot feminist claiming he did it on purpose to get out of doing it again.

Piss off, it was a toaster. Hardly a massive task........like cleaning the oven. Everyone's capable of making stupid mistakes and feeling a bit wounded when they're pointing them out. It's a bit of a stretch to claim it's done on purpose.

Honestly 🙄

AndBreatheJustBreathe · 21/07/2019 18:37

God people are harsh.

Like we haven’t all had a momentary lapse in judgement.

troppibambini · 21/07/2019 18:37

Yep it's knackered.
My dh put the chocolate fountain in "to soak" once. He though it would be ok because the plug didn't go in the water.

TheOnlySnot · 21/07/2019 18:37

It reminds me of the time my cousin put my electric kettle on the hob!

CharityDingle · 21/07/2019 18:37

'Trying to help' - in what way? Genuine question.

Aquamarine1029 · 21/07/2019 18:38

He can't possibly be that stupid, surely?

RubbingHimSourly · 21/07/2019 18:39

For what it's.worth if it's.only the toastie pet it's probably saveable.

Take off the lid part and turn it upside in some rice or something........just means you won't be able to have toasties for a month or so.

My.brothers saved a few laptops that have had sticky drinks spilt on them by sticking them in the shower.......he hasn't been blown up yet. But again, leaves it well alone for a month at least

Jupiter13 · 21/07/2019 18:47

Get him to try it out
