Husband tried to 'soak' the toastie maker in the sink

Is it broken?
Is there any hope?
I just had a massive go at him to being stupid enough to put an electrical appliance in the sink- it has a plug!

He is upset that i had a go at him but now I either have to get a new one or go without.

Aibu for having a go? He was trying to help....

@RubbingHimSourly what does that have to do with feminism?

Gingernaut · 21/07/2019 18:52

He wouldn't have washed his drill or any power tool.

What made him think that a piece of electrically powered kitchen equipment would need soaking?

madcatladyforever · 21/07/2019 18:54

is this the kind of "helping" that ensures he will never have to "help" ever again for fucks sake.

Snowflake9 · 21/07/2019 18:55

Buy one with removable plates. I have a breville one, only cost about £20 but just pop the plates out. Wash them up, wipe over the rest of the unit with a damp cloth. Perfect.

I wouldn't get to het up about it, it's a sandwich toaster. There are worse things he could have done

Cannyhandleit · 21/07/2019 18:56

Yabu to have a go at him, it's hilarious! I bought one in Tesco for about £10 before so it's hardly the end of the world!

HeadintheiClouds · 21/07/2019 18:58

Thank God he unplugged it first!

overnightangel · 21/07/2019 18:58

I can see there a certain type of poster rubbing their hands at this one 🙄
So boring and predictable
People make mistakes, get over it

rosydreams · 21/07/2019 18:59

if it got water in it ,its done for.I suggest a george forman can be used for meat and toasties

poochnewbie · 21/07/2019 18:59

LTB Wink

LadyRannaldini · 21/07/2019 19:00

Like we haven’t all had a momentary lapse in judgement.

Of course not, women never do anything like this and if they do and their OH shouts at them, oh dear, he's toast! She is never wrong.

Timandra · 21/07/2019 19:01

Who was he 'trying to help'?

I assume it was his sandwich toaster too so just as much his responsibility to clean it?

TypingoftheDead · 21/07/2019 19:01

@RubbingHimSourly - I don't know the OP's husband, but I've heard my dad tell other people he deliberately did a poor job with washing dishes etc to get out of doing them, so it's not really "tinpot feminism" to suggest that's why he put the whole thing in the sink.
Only the OP would really know if that's the case here.

LuckyLou7 · 21/07/2019 19:03

Just buy a new one. They're hardly expensive.

LaMarschallin · 21/07/2019 19:03

Don't leave him alone in the bath with his electric razor😯

Panini makers are good for toasties, I find, and very easy to clean.

gowgow · 21/07/2019 19:06

My ex-DH tried cheese on toast by putting the toaster on its side, & wondered why it didn't work. Wasn't the only reason I divorced him....

Oysterbabe · 21/07/2019 19:08

Husband's always try and soak everything so they don't have to clean it there and then. Never a day goes by without me finding something with a few inches of minging water in the bottom.

Parmavioletgin1 · 21/07/2019 19:11

Clearly he just doesn't like toasties. 🤣

Exasperatedcroc · 21/07/2019 19:14

Reminds me of the time DH kindly offered to clean my glasses for me. To give home credit they were quite greasy but not entirely sure what possessed him to use a scouring pad on them. Ended up so scratched they had to go straight in the bin. I didn't have spares at the time so couldn't drive or anything for a fortnight until could get new pair. He is a graduate with a Master's but couldn't see why he should have guessed the consequences.

MrsTommyBanks · 21/07/2019 19:17

Get some toastie bags as emergancy stop gaps.

Grumpyunleashed · 21/07/2019 19:17

Perhaps he hates toasties and this is the easy way of getting a respite from them?
Get a new on, you can never be too careful with electricity.

Ated · 21/07/2019 19:18

Look at Seren or tunnel toasters and educate your idiot husband on how electrics and water don't mix.

LottieLucie · 21/07/2019 19:21

Darwinism in action. Is he normally so stupid?

TheGrapefulDread · 21/07/2019 19:21

Sounds like this is the sort of thing that will sort itself out in the fullness of time have you heard of the DarwinAwards ? Grin

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 21/07/2019 19:22

Only one way to find out. Get the husband to plug it in and switch on (make sure you stand well back).

Witchend · 21/07/2019 19:23

Oh dear!
My scientific husband thought it was a good idea to hoover up the water he'd spilt. He's usually got more common sense than that. Grin
