Husband tried to 'soak' the toastie maker in the sink

Is it broken?
Is there any hope?
I just had a massive go at him to being stupid enough to put an electrical appliance in the sink- it has a plug!

He is upset that i had a go at him but now I either have to get a new one or go without.

Aibu for having a go? He was trying to help....

He’s upset? He was trying to help??

Maybe you destroy something if his and say you were just trying to help...

Haha, is he usually hard of thinking?

He should buy you a new one. Also get some common sense.

Soubriquet · 21/07/2019 19:24

I agree it’s not the worst thing in the world as it sounds like a genuine accident but at the same time...he wouldn’t put his power equipment into soak so why did he think a sandwich maker would do well in water? Confused

Orangeballon · 21/07/2019 19:25

He’s one slice short of a toasted 🥪

funnylittlefloozie · 21/07/2019 19:28

Only acceptable if he has mild/ moderate learning difficulties. If he does, you need to cut him some slack and make sure he has clear written directions in future. If he doesnt, he's just a common or garden moron.

DrVonPatak · 21/07/2019 19:28

At least he didn't try to wash his hiking boots on the highest spin like my brother (aspie with a nose of a bloodhound). There was nothing left to do but pronounce D.O.A. on my mom's brand spanking new Whirlpool. The consequences were... apocalyptic.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2019 19:29

My step dad has done this with a toasty maker my mum couldn't believe it when he did it again with the George Foreman Shock not a brain in his head

Teacakeandalatte · 21/07/2019 19:29

Haha i think most of us have done something stupid occasionally so i would let him off also it gave me a laugh 😂. Agree with making him buy a new one with removable plates

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/07/2019 19:33

Did he eat a fat ball at the same time?

Belenus · 21/07/2019 19:34

I once spilled red wine into a digibox. I was more annoyed at the waste of good drink than the possible damage to the electronics. Anyway, once dried out it work fine, although with the faint whiff of merlot for a few days.

Buddytheelf85 · 21/07/2019 19:35

People who leave any cooking apparatus ‘to soak’ give me the rage. Doing it to an electrical appliance takes it to a new level.

LordRudolphVII · 21/07/2019 19:37

I thought I was bad trying to microwave a scotch egg (which exploded like a hand grenade when cut into, taking hours to clean up).

Tallgreenbottle · 21/07/2019 19:38

Christ all you do to clean them is toastie a damp teatowel in them for about a minute fgs. Then wipe clean.

Justajot · 21/07/2019 19:41

I'd drain it and put it in the airing cupboard for a week (if you have one). No point pronouncing it dead until you've given it a chance.

Pepperstripe · 21/07/2019 19:41

That's pretty funny

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2019 19:43

When my Step dad was mining he was the SAFETY OFFICER Grin

quizqueen · 21/07/2019 19:45

They are only £8.99 in Tesco, send him to buy a new one.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2019 19:47

Oh god that reminds me I readin take a break if you put lemon in your microwave for a minute or so your microwave would wipe clean i failed to read it was meant to be lemon slices in a bowl of water Blush there was a kaboom

twattymctwatterson · 21/07/2019 19:49

I hate "trying to help" as if men aren't actually equally responsible for keeping their environment clean

RosesAndRaindrops · 21/07/2019 19:50

YADNBU.
What a div. (Him, not you lol)

PettyContractor · 21/07/2019 19:51

I'd guess that as long as there's no water retained in any crannies and you leave it until it's completely dry, it might be OK.

The problems with mixing electrical devices with water mostly happen when water and electricity are there at the same time. A toaster doesn't have a battery, it wasn't plugged in, so it's not obvious to me that there should be a problem.

I have no qualification or experience backing up my opinion though.

BookClubBlues · 21/07/2019 19:53

I assumed you were taking about your husband here Grin
No hope I’d say.

AdoraBell · 21/07/2019 19:59

I know someone who did that. Educated, intelligent, held down highly paid jobs, well travelled but she had no idea about cooking. We were invited for lunch, 3 hour drive, and she tried to do toasties but didn’t know about buttering the outside so the bread stuck. Slid the thing into the water and that was the end of lunch.

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 21/07/2019 19:59

I would've have had a pop art him but I would have laughed a lot, and would tease him mercifully about it for the foreseeable future, in front of people

Stressedout10 · 21/07/2019 20:00

@Mrsjayy it could be worse my dsis once tried to make boiled eggs in the microwave, what a mess and the house stank for days 🤣

justasking111 · 21/07/2019 20:00

My friend filled my electric kettle and put it on the gas hob once. She was mortified and bought me a new kettle.
