I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

@Glitter99x - you must be my long lost twin 😁 I HATE coffee and because I hate it so much I can never figure out why 99% if not 100% of everyone I know loves it and drinks it!
If I’ve forced myself to have a cup (I’ve not slept/big day ahead/long journey etc) then I get the jitters and shakes from it and feel wired! Like an allergy and it most certainly doesn’t ‘wake me up’!

booksandcaffeine · 21/07/2019 17:41

Yeah I drink it for the caffeine. I can't drink coffee without milk, sugar or syrups.

I don't like any other hot drinks though.

danfandango · 21/07/2019 17:43

I drink concentrated chicory - not to be confused with Camp or any other coffee chicory mix. Slightly toffee note and no caffeine side effects.

Around €2.75 for 100ml it easily does 30 drinks.

Alicatz66 · 21/07/2019 17:43

I LOVE coffee .. but I also love broccoli, Campari, olives ... I think some people’s taste mechanisms are different ... I don’t like sweet stuff

KronksSpinachPuffs · 21/07/2019 17:44

I like coffee! I love it with lots of milk in, no sugar. I dont mind flavoured syrups in it when I get it from a coffee shop though!

Black coffee is nice too but I only have it if I've run out of milk.

To me it's not bitter, and I find that the cheaper the coffee the weaker it is, but not sure if that's just in my head.

However if I had to pick between only ever having tea or only ever having coffee then I'd choose tea!

mrsbeeton999 · 21/07/2019 17:44

I love coffee but the smell of cold coffee dregs turns my stomach. It does mean I don’t leave dirty cups laying around though!

YesILikeItToo · 21/07/2019 17:46

My cats used to try to bury any cold coffe cups left lying around mrsB !

Gwenhwyfar · 21/07/2019 17:48

I don't like coffee, but I've grown to like capuccino, moccha and can tolerate a latte so I could probably train myself to like coffee by going gradually stronger with all of those.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 21/07/2019 17:49

Mildly amusing fact.
My dad once ordered an espresso in a coffee shop, when he recieved it he said "you dont get much for your money do you? I only ordered it because it would be quick"
I was howling when I realised he thought it was eXpresso as in fast coffee that didn't take long to make😂 I took the piss for weeks
This is an educated man btw,god love him

DanceItOut · 21/07/2019 17:50

I don’t like coffee either. I very rarely have a cup of tea. Not really a fan of hot chocolate either. I also don’t really like coca-cola much or energy drinks YUCK!. People are always so shocked when I say I don’t drink hot drinks and ask what I drink all day 😂 I just drink water most of the time, sometimes some lemonade or sugar free squash if I want a different taste.

WoofWoofMooWoof · 21/07/2019 17:55

I can't have caffeine as it gives me migraines.

I have a good quality coffee - strong, black and bitter. So I'm not having it for the caffeine, I'm having it because I love the smell and the taste Grin. I also grew up in a coffee drinking country.

WoofWoofMooWoof · 21/07/2019 17:56

That should be good quality decaf coffee.

CuppaTeaPlz · 21/07/2019 17:57

As my username suggests, I’m definitely a tea belly!
Coffee is an awful smell and taste to me, and I’ve tried it in many different forms over the years.
It’s always been good for me in one way tho - when I had bad morning sickness I would get my partner to make her coffee and bring it in so the smell could make me sick and I could get on with my day 😂

I’m definitely a tea-addict and drink around 20 cups (2.5 pint mugs actually 😂) of tea a day - I’m disabled and really don’t get out much 😁

purplebunny2012 · 21/07/2019 17:59

This is really a very odd post. If we all liked the same stuff we'd run out of it very quickly!
I don't like a lot of tastes. Hate tea and coffee.
I don't like foods that a majority of people do like

Cineraria · 21/07/2019 17:59

I really like coffee. As strong and dark roasted as possible. No milk, no sugar. The only thing that can possibly taste good in coffee for me is a few cardamom seeds in an arabic style coffee. Before the coffee, I should eat or drink something sweet to make the bitterness stand out more. I don't have a lot, usually one small cup each day and I like other bitter foods too, like dark chocolate, most green veg, karela (bitter gourd) as long as they aren't combined with the spicy heat of something like chillies.

I really missed nice coffee when I was breastfeeding DS1, who was a poor sleeper and worse if I had any. It took ages to find a decaffeinated coffee that I liked (Redber's Sumatra Mandheling) and I was glad when he stopped breastfeeding to learn that DS2 didn't have that problem as I think the caffeine does improve the flavour.

I always have liked it too. When I wouldn't drink my milk as a baby (likely milk allergy as I threw up an unusual amount and my DC both have it), the HV told my mum to put 1/4 tsp Nesquick in my bottle. That didn't work but a smaller amount of Nescafe did!

I can completely understand why someone could strongly dislike it though (I do when I have a cold) or be indifferent to it as I think I couldn't actually taste coffee or chocolate properly when I was pregnant and could have them but got no enjoyment from them.

freshsheets · 21/07/2019 18:01

I hated it in the beginning but needed a caffeine boost in the day whilst at college (I was surviving on Diet Pepsi before!). I found that starting with flat whites helped me get used to the taste gently and now I drink it black and love it!

Some mornings I can't stomach it (usually when I've had a drink the night before) but most days I have 2 cups of it black.

RottnestFerry · 21/07/2019 18:01

Where on Earth do yo buy two and a half pint mugs.

Notstrongandstable · 21/07/2019 18:02

You are drinking the wrong kind of coffee...simple!
Instant is shit, don't bother.
Get a stovetop coffee pot and decent bag of coffee, about £4.50 upwards...heat milk in pan or milk frothed if you're going fancy...lovely!
NEVER INSTANT!

ToftyAC · 21/07/2019 18:09

I have to be in the mood for coffee and even then it has to be decent, with sugar and lots of milk. What I can’t stand is anything with aniseed in. 🤢

Bozlem80 · 21/07/2019 18:10

I love coffee! But I also love tonic water with or without gin 😆 I love black olives & blue veined cheese I’m strange I know 😂

viques · 21/07/2019 18:12

Are you pregnant OP. ? I went right off coffee when I was.
Grin

To be fair though, you say you drink soft fizzy drinks and I don't understand how anyone over the age of 13 can stomach them, sweet, cloying, sickly artificial flavours, smelling like cheap sweets, gassy........

We really do need a projectile vomit emoticon on here........

Smile
MidsomerBurgers · 21/07/2019 18:25

@Mokapot

I agree. Decent coffee has no need for sugar or milk. I detest cheap coffee.

Chloe9 · 21/07/2019 18:26

I hate some coffee, I dislike some coffee, I like some coffee and I love some coffee. Because it's basically a completely different product depending how it's prepared and what it's mixed with.

MollyButton · 21/07/2019 18:26

I prefer instant to "starbucks" coffee. Oh and I drink it black.
I like olives.
I can't stand fizzy orange (Fanta etc. or even just orange juice and lemonade). But I do like both Orange juice and lemonade, just don't mix them.
I do eat broccoli, cabbage and Cucumber, although I didn't like cucumber as a child. (Apparently to make cucumber sandwiches you should remove the seeds and then they taste less bitter).

riceuten · 21/07/2019 18:26

I couldn't live without it. It tastes like whatever you want it to taste like - such are the variety of coffees and strengths available.

Garden peas, however, are the spawn of Satan himself
