I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

Everyone has different tastes. I personally love coffee, freshly percolated, in a tiny espresso cup with no sugar. I love Sainsbury's Berries and Chilli tea bags. I don't like sweet fizzy drinks or flavoured water in bottles. I do like tap water infused with fresh lemon and lime.
My favourite alcoholic drink is ordinary gin with ordinary tonic and a few chunks of cucumber.
I don't despise anyone who doesn't enjoy the drinks I do, as long as everyone stays hydrated and well, who really cares?

MollyButton · 21/07/2019 18:41

Oh that just reminded me - I hate chilled water with cucumber in it - I really wish people (my gym) wouldn't do that.
I do drink tea - but it has to be strong enough. If its too weak, basically tastes just like hot water it physically makes me puke. I'm not sure if this is psychosomatic because my mother told me it would - or she told me it would because its a family genetic thing? I know several people who like very weak tea or hot water to drink.

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 21/07/2019 18:42

I also can't stand the taste of coffee, but love fizzy drinks. I feel like a bit of a child when everyone else is drinking coffee or tea and I'm on the pepsi but that's the way my tastebuds are wired.
I do try a coffee every now and then, in case my tastes have changed but they never do.
I occasionally wonder if more people that dislike sprouts dislike coffee (as theyre both very bitter tasting to me), but I suspect there's little link as 90% of the population seem to adore coffee and there's a far lower % that dislike sprouts

QueenofPain · 21/07/2019 18:46

I ways always a tea person but just lately have been drinking lots of coffee. Now can’t walk past somewhere that is clearly brewing fresh coffee without feeling a hankering for some. It’s addictive, lol.

gowgow · 21/07/2019 18:59

I'm an omnivore, & will try anything. I've travelled a fair bit & tried lots of things that are unusual to an English palate, & the only thing I would not eat was a cockroach in China - mainly because it was still alive & was not meant to be served.

JustKeepIt · 21/07/2019 19:01

Nobody drinks coffee for the taste. You become so deluded and sleep deprived because of adulthood that you forcibly get used to the taste of coffee because the only other option is crack Grin

NoobThebrave · 21/07/2019 19:07

Yes it is liquid of the gods when you pin your eyes open!! But I didn't like coffee (or olives!) For many years until I found the right sort.

WhoAmIToTellYou · 21/07/2019 19:12

I like it, it’s nice. Different people like different things, what’s not to understand?

ForalltheSaints · 21/07/2019 19:17

People have different tastes.
I don't like lager for example.

On other matters, I do not find Mrs Brown's Boys funny. I do not get why anyone would consider Mr Johnson or Mr Corbyn appropriate to lead any political party.

EdWinchester · 21/07/2019 19:22

I am the only person I know that doesn't drink coffee.

My husband thinks I am unsophisticated, as do my coffee drinking kids.

I wish I did like it, tbh. Everyone is so bloody obsessed with it.

winniestone37 · 21/07/2019 19:31

@Jsmith99 you know most people and how they like their coffee?!! Amazing how did you manage it? Whilst on some level this is an interesting thread I can't really understand the mentality behind it. We spend time and effort telling kids how everyone is different, that it's normal to ve different and it enriches the world. Then someone posts on mumsnet seemingly genuinely asking why people like something they don't. My advice is ask a 5 year old.

TemporaryPermanent · 21/07/2019 19:34

I like instant coffee.

[gets coat]

Wheresmrlion · 21/07/2019 19:39

Coffee smells gorgeous. I want to like it so much. But I don’t, even with cream and four sugars it’s bitter and vile. Love coffee flavoured things but not the drink itself.

Pork stinks like wee to me. Absolutely disgusting. Unless processed and salted into bacon and sausages, that seems to take the wee smell away. I think there’s a gene for that too.

MollyButton · 21/07/2019 19:39

@winniestone37 - I think this thread is interesting to see if there are any patterns. Do people who don't like coffee also dislike cucumber? What about dark chocolate and olives?

Deadringer · 21/07/2019 19:39

I am not really a coffee drinker but I like a nice latte, i love the sweet, milky creaminess of it. I don't like fizzy drinks at all though, and I cannot understand why anyone would drink fizzy water, nasty gassy stuff, yuck!

Karatema · 21/07/2019 19:43

Tea makes me sick and the smell of strong tea makes me heave so I understand why you may not like coffee. I do have my fair share of Hmmlooks when I say I can't drink "normal" tea.

Bonnetdedeuce · 21/07/2019 19:44

I am currently slurping a good strong kopi luwak, ethically sourced.

BreconBeBuggered · 21/07/2019 19:49

Love dark chocolate, olives and all kinds of supposedly bitter greens. As far as hot drinks go, I'm exactly like OP. Of course people like different things. Hold the front page. Thing is, so often people get quite offended that you don't want a hot drink because you already had one six weeks ago and don't fancy another just yet.

TheoriginalLEM · 21/07/2019 19:51

Gotta love a bit of cat poo coffee!!

whiteroseredrose · 21/07/2019 19:52

Love coffee. Just espresso, black or white.

Can't stand Coke full stop. No longer like the occasional 7up or Sprite as the aspartame leaves a bitter aftertaste. It's what you'd be forced to drink in hell!!

twattymctwatterson · 21/07/2019 19:55

You are being so unreasonable. Coffee is life.

Slowmovingtraffic · 21/07/2019 19:59

I love coffee with no sugar and with a little milk or none. I defiantly drink it for the taste as I gave up drinks with caffeine 5 years ago and like de-caf coffee. I don't mind tea but find it tastes to sweet. That's just my taste though, I don't like sweet things and have never liked chocolate (even as a baby/child), so each to their own I say!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/07/2019 20:01

I used to work in a prison and one of the lads once said to me 'I hate coffee miss, it smells like teachers breath' which I thought was rather profound from a young man who was in segregation for smearing shit all over the walls

Slowmovingtraffic · 21/07/2019 20:02

Just to add people are always quite shocked when I say I don't like chocolate which is fine but also quite strange as it's the same as not liking anything else really but seems to have a odd effect on to her people they can't get their heads around it for some reason, completely baffles me as the same as not liking say olives or fish etc

onegiftedgal · 21/07/2019 20:09

I agree op, coffee is horrible.
