I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

I love the smell of proper coffee but can't bear the taste of it...I wish I did

Sounds like my late mother and tomatoes, she loved the smell and would stand in the greenhouse for ages just smelling them but she couldn't eat them which made her very sad.

You sound quite young OP and with a sweet (juvenile) palette. Sweet wine? Bleurgh! Tastes do change as we mature.

Coffee is amazing if made properly. Never instant, Starbucks is awful, you need great beans, a great machine and someone who knows what they are doing.
I drink it for the taste and for the caffeine. Espresso every morning and an occasional second one/cortado/breve after lunch. I don't drink milky coffee or take sugar. It doesn't taste burnt!! It's smooth, rich and delicious.

@Knitclubchatter I thought I was the only person in the world who thought this! DH says it’s because I associate drinking coffee with having a cigarette at the same time and I detest both the taste of coffee and cigarettes generally.

I’ve not read all the thread though so maybe there’s more of us.

Funnily enough I do love the smell of coffee.

I hate beer/ale and wine too but love broccoli

I'm sat on the settee in front of the tower fan in my silk dressing gown (inside out for the coolest side) sipping on an iced coffee right now.

  1. I'm unemployed until September when my new job starts. And I'm bloody glad of it on days where it's this bloody hot.
  1. It's hotter than Hades out there - the inside temperature (black curtains drawn permanently, hard flooring, etc, etc) is 31, so God knows how awful it is outside the front door.
  1. Camp Coffee is brilliant. Just bung ice in a tall glass, shake the carton of milk up first, pour into the glass, add Camp Coffee on top.

Mind you, when I was 3/4, I used to have my own cup of Mellow Birds coffee made with milk for elevenses. I'd been caught drinking my big brother's Nescafe, so I suppose it was a harm reduction principle. I'd graduated onto proper coffee by 8 (with milk and done of the stove with a percolator) and was drinking Greek/Arabic coffee by 11 due to friends coming from the region.

I just like it. Always have done. My mother didn't drink coffee and her tea is rank - she definitely didn't encourage me to have it.

I love coffee (&tea) and drink both black with no sugar. Some coffees are more bitter than others but a lovely mellow smooth roast is the dogs do da's. Can only drink about 3 a day though, get jittery so drink decaf tea or green tea. I feel like you OP about gin, bleurghhh tastes and smells like perfume 🤢

PickAChew · 23/07/2019 23:26

Because good coffee is full of lovely aromatics (and sugar with coffee is an abomination)

Missangrypants · 23/07/2019 23:29

Hot drinks in general. WHY!

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 24/07/2019 07:30

@Missangrypants I'm with you on that!! I very rarely drink a hot drink. I might have a very occasional hot chocolate in winter but for me personally, I just don't like driniing hot liquids

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/07/2019 07:39

What?!?!

Dontbehating · 24/07/2019 13:41

For me its the best taste! My day cannot start without it :)

ethelfleda · 24/07/2019 13:52

Anyone got any good iced coffee recipes?

minipie · 24/07/2019 15:31

Make coffee
Put in fridge until cool
Pour over ice
Add milk and sugar to taste (I like lots of full cream milk no sugar)

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/07/2019 15:32

If it tastes burnt it's being made wrong. I love coffee but it has to be decent coffee and it has to be made right. But you like what you like, everyone has different tastes.

AcrossthePond55 · 25/07/2019 22:40

Ethelfreda

Try cold brew

1 c beans ground coarse
4 c water

Combine in jar, stir gently. Let steep covered 12 hours then strain through cheesecloth lined strainer. Keeps in fridge up to a week.

Dilute with water or milk to taste. I like it strong with sweet cream over ice. If you like it sweet, use evap milk

ktp100 · 20/09/2019 16:24

It's just about taste buds & flavour profiles, surely?

I like coffee & dark chocolate & red wine & blue cheese & olives BUT I get why some people don't. They are deep, strong flavours.

I'm not a fan of cream or milk, which most people love. No biggy, just different things for different folks.
