I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

I don't like the taste of coffee but I'll try every few years to see if I've acquired the taste. Not happening. I also dislike olives, beer, celery and I'll only tolerate sprouts on Christmas Day. I see a pattern Grin

I do find the whole "coffee culture" and coffee snobbery a bit "emperor's new clothes" but each to their own.

cccameron · 20/07/2019 08:54

How old are you? It sounds like you have the palette of a 5 year old!

The fact that you enjoy Echo Falls indicates that your taste buds are in a state of malfunction Grin

mydogisthebest · 20/07/2019 08:58

Are you talking about instant or proper coffee?

Proper coffee smells delicious. It's one of my favourite smells. If you use a decent coffee it also tastes delicious. Places like Starbucks do not use decent coffee which is why their coffee is so vile and always tastes burnt and stale.

Instant coffee is just vile and smells vile too. DH drinks instant in the mornings and I can smell when he makes it even when I am upstairs. It tastes nothing like real coffee.

I don't like coffee flavouring. Coffee chocolates I hate and not keen on coffee cake either.

veryboredtoday · 20/07/2019 09:04

I love that study ... i must be a psychopath as love coffee (real coffee snob as love an expresso, black no sugar) olives, dark chocolate and pretty much most bitter foods.
For those psychologists amongst you I also score high on extrovert and neurotic traits (eysenck)
Should my family be worried?

EskewedBeef · 20/07/2019 09:07

An immature palate Grin Hmm. I like coffee, whisky and fags, and I like Fizz Whizz.

BitchQueen90 · 20/07/2019 09:13

I have a very very sweet tooth and am one of those people who everyone hates because the only coffee I drink is a latte with 2 sugars. Grin

I don't like anything bitter or sour tasting. I don't like wine, beer or gin, the only alcohol I can drink is fruit cider, vodka, Baileys or fruity/creamy cocktails.

Strangely though I do love very spicy food.

Juells · 20/07/2019 09:14

I feel the same way about tea that the OP does about coffee. If I pick up someone else's cup and take a sip and it's tea it's uncontrollable, I only barely make it to a sink or loo to spray it back out, and can taste it for hours.

I got used to coffee by having very weak milky coffee in my first FT job - it was that or tea at 10am, and I started sipping it just for something to do. Now I love really strong fresh coffee, I have a de longhi coffee maker that takes ground coffee (not pods) and I make cup after cup in the morning.

NaturalBornWoman · 20/07/2019 09:14

Good coffee is one of life's pleasures. Instant is a different drink and I don't like it at all. You drink Fanta, sprite, Coke and cheap wine, none of which I would even think of consuming. People like what they like. It's not unreasonable to have likes and dislikes but it's extremely unreasonable to not understand how someone can like something which you dislike.

Roussette · 20/07/2019 09:22

Most people probably don’t like the taste of coffee very much which is why they add lots of milk and sugar to it. They drink it for the caffeine, not the taste

No! Not one person I know is like this! Love the actual taste of coffee BUT I probably haven't had an instant coffee for 20 years. There is no comparison to real coffee.

My theory is... if there is not much you don't like, you don't necessarily have a sweet tooth, you're the sort to eat or try anything... you will be a coffee drinker.

If your palate is more restricted and there are many things you could list that you don't like, (as shown on here) you could possibly not be a coffee drinker!

Just my opinion!

Opossooom · 20/07/2019 09:30

Try bean to cup not this dissolve shit you get in a tub. Go to Starbucks and get a americano or a blonde cappuccino.

Verily1 · 20/07/2019 09:30

I’ve never drunk coffee. Even a coffee chocolate/cake makes me feel sick. It’s just a drug that people will look back on the way we now look back on cigarettes.

I hate bitter foods.
Broccoli
Cucumber
Rocket
Asparagus
Grapefruit
Avocado
Kale
Blue cheese
Vinegar/ all dressings
Mustard
Pepper
Spices
Peas
Courgette
Green peppers
Yoghurt
Beer
Wine
Gin

My diet is very bland!

galvantula · 20/07/2019 09:33

@Sashkin our mask fitting test is done with artificial sweetener, you might prefer that. 😄

I have loved beer for years, only just getting into coffee though.

Do not like cucumber.

TheFutureMrsBellamy · 20/07/2019 09:37

I love the smell of proper coffee but can't bear the taste of it...I wish I did.

malificent7 · 20/07/2019 09:39

Love coffee...even instant and like those flavoured beanie ones too!

malificent7 · 20/07/2019 09:40

Love bitter foods but also massicely love sweet things. Have to reign it in though.

31RueCambon · 20/07/2019 09:43

my old flatmate told me she didn't like coffee as she was nodding at a jar of gold blend in the cupboard. Gross.

I love coffee, good coffee, you do get bad cups of coffee though. But good coffee is so so so good. how can you not like it!? don't understand!

31RueCambon · 20/07/2019 09:45

True, as another poster says, I'd never bother with fanta or lucozade or anything like that.
I love coconut water though.

Bluejeantreefrog · 20/07/2019 09:48

I dont get how peope can eat eggs if they taste anything like how they smell. I cant get past the smell have to leave the room if DH has any.

cccameron · 20/07/2019 09:48

What is Fizz Whizz? Is it some sort of amphetamine Smile

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/07/2019 09:49

I love the smell of coffee beans but I much prefer instant.

I just find ground coffee tastes too weak

SallyWD · 20/07/2019 09:51

I used to hate it. Just the smell of it made me gag. Hate anything coffee flavoured. Then we got a coffee machine and suddenly I love it!

EskewedBeef · 20/07/2019 09:51

What is Fizz Whizz? Is it some sort of amphetamine

Yes, it's speed. They disguise it as popping candy so corner shops can sell it.

cccameron · 20/07/2019 09:51

Do people really think cucumber tastes bitter? It tastes really mild and sweet to me.

steppemum · 20/07/2019 09:52

I find it odd that you ca't see that people have different taste buds.

To me, for example, brocolli is never bitter.
I LOVE the small of coffee, one of my favourite smells in the whole world.
I don't however like the taste, so I never drink it. On th eodd occasion when I do, I don't like the flavour, but it isn't bitter.

My dh drinks is balck and plain, adn I am bemused by the pp who says everyone covers the taste with milk and sugar, as I know very few people who take sugar these days, and most of europe drink it black in the evening.

You say you like hot chocolate, I don'tmind it, but it is very sweet and sickly, I need to be in the mood for it.

cccameron · 20/07/2019 09:52

Grin EskewedBeef I'm just off to the shops, it's now the first thing on my shopping list
