I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

LadyRannaldini

I like everything on your list. In fact I like all foods mentioned on this thread so far.

Some people are fussier than others.

Kazzyhoward · 20/07/2019 08:19

That's how I feel about any alcoholic drink so don't touch the stuff. We're all different!

cookiechomper · 20/07/2019 08:20

I like coffee but can't drink it first thing. I need a few cups of tea first. I always get bad headaches if I don't have some form of caffeine in the morning.
I have coffee medium strength with milk and sweetener. My sister drinks hers black, unsweetened and I don't get how she can drink it.

Bluntness100 · 20/07/2019 08:21

I love coffee and drink it Black with no sugar.

museumum · 20/07/2019 08:24

I hate coffee. To me the bitter overwhelms everything. I can appreciate the smell but the taste is just bitter and awful.
I find campari and those orange spritz drinks utterly spit it out awful too.
I think I’m just oversensitive to bitter. I like other strong flavours (olives included).

EskewedBeef · 20/07/2019 08:26

I loved coffee (and cigarettes) from the very first taste.

Same here. Gave up the fags decades ago, but could still have one at any moment if I was nudged. I like strong flavours and feeling relaxed, which makes me a tobacconist's/coffee shop's dream.

Pipandmum · 20/07/2019 08:26

I love lattes. I would hate an expresso. But the mixture of coffee flavouring, hot milk and sweetness (now artificial...) is yum! Almost like a liquid dessert!
Now olives on the other hand...

SudowoodoVoodoo · 20/07/2019 08:29

I can't stand coffee, tea or beer. The worst bit is people looking at you like you have three heads when you've just explained for the third time that you really would just prefer a glass of tap water and that you really don't like... (insert bitter brown liquid). I also can't accept squash when out unless I want a thumping headache, insatiable thirst, and indelible sickly after taste for up to 6 hours. The stupid sugar tax has meant I now have to pay a fortune for premium brands of squash because all the Ribena and High-Juice is now contaminated.

I used to like the smell of coffee but now I find it repellent. I don't know if that's since super-pregnancy nose or the rise in coffee pretentions since around the time of my first pregnancy. Saying that, DH had a latte from a machine yesterday and his breath honged afterwards, despite that being quite weak.

The whole language of coffee has become bewildering. Goodness knows what happened to "large white, one sugar", it's all "super hugeissimo frappéd flat arabica mocha with vanilla syrrup" or whatever and God help you if you want to order something "small" in a coffee shop Confused

I'm also intolerant to cows milk, so my non-alcoholic drinking options are usually water or Coca Cola unless I want to take out a mortgage for a small and bitter concentrated glass of orange juice (invariably never the nice fresh stuff)

Olives are lovely. I got the taste in adulthood.
I can understand corriander being "soapy" to some people. I'm suprised that people find it has a strong taste. It's just refreshingly crunchy and watery to me. I have occasionally bought one that had a slightly vinegary tang to it (definitely not a gerkin Wink) DH doesn't like it and I always thought his reaction was a bit strong to something whose most offensive quality was being a bit wet possibly towards slimy.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of coffee Grin

PeachieGeorgia · 20/07/2019 08:30

@DustyMaiden I never liked olives until ai tasted them in a Mediterranean country. The ones we get here are mostly rank because the olive producing countries keep the good ones for themselves. Try the Crespo olives in the green packet. Those are the closest tasting ones we get here.

I love the smell of it in a good coffee shop but another hater of the drink - it tastes like cigarette ash to me.

What I’m more fascinated with is how it so socially acceptable to be so reliant on caffeine as a stimulant. If it was anything else there would be laws against it (not on my high horse - sometimes drink caffeinated tea but can instantly feel the effects). Just a wonder really

greathat · 20/07/2019 08:38

Op I'm with you. It smells and tastes disgusting

NewPapaGuinea · 20/07/2019 08:38

Depends. Bad coffee is very bad and most chains serve dark roasted that does taste burnt. Light/medium roast is citrusy and almost refreshing. Age also plays a factor as taste buds ‘mature’. A few years ago I hated olives, but I now actually like them.

lotusbell · 20/07/2019 08:39

I drink coffee but it has to be made how I like it and I dont like it strong. Most coffee shops are too strong for me. I also actually prefer instant to filter. I understand why people don't like it. But I dont like tea and people find that strange.

Pinktinker · 20/07/2019 08:39

I love it but can completely see how it’s an acquired taste.

CottonSock · 20/07/2019 08:39

I will never drink coffee or tea. I eat pretty much anything so not fussy there. Get my caffine from diet coke.

Sarcelle · 20/07/2019 08:40

I drink black coffee, no sugar. Love it.

Also love olives.

Don't like chocolate.

Ylvamoon · 20/07/2019 08:42

COFFEE ☕😍😍!
Try with cream, reduces the bitterness and gives it an extra rich flavour!

HillRunner · 20/07/2019 08:42

sudowoodo are you confusing coriander and cucumber?

I don't like coffee, but I get that other people do. What I dont like is coffee breath. People at work who drink coffee have no idea how bad their breath smells, it's horrible....

NeverGotMyPuppy · 20/07/2019 08:42

What a weird AIBU

Clearly you have a swet tooth OP.

Alarmclockstop · 20/07/2019 08:44

@Sakura7 interesting, my dh can smell cucumber from miles away, I try hiding it in the fridge but he always smells it.
I have the coriander gene, it's vile and I can taste one tiny leaf in a strong curry.

Love coffee tho, sugar ruins it. I drink decaff tho as caffeine makes me feel rubbish.

RedSheep73 · 20/07/2019 08:45

I find it disgusting as well, but there are people who like all sorts of gross things. Like brocolli.

BinkyBaa · 20/07/2019 08:45

I like coffee. I also like marmite!

Cookit · 20/07/2019 08:45

I hate the taste of coffee with a passion and never drink it but I do find the smell nice (but not the smell on people’s breath after they’ve had one).

It took me a while to get into tea and now I couldn’t live without it.

ginghamtablecloths · 20/07/2019 08:46

We all have different ideas about what tastes and smells good. I'm a tea lover and I hate the smell of strong coffee - it almost makes me gag.

However I can drink coffee with sugar and plenty of milk when I go out.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 20/07/2019 08:48

I love coffee, and always drink it black, no sugar. Generally I enjoy bitter foods and drinks.

The things I don’t like: strong cheese, cauliflower, mustard, eggs. Cooked eggs smell absolutely disgusting to me.
