I personally don't get it. It smells stomach turning and tastes stomach turning. Both my parents drink it, although my dad prefers tea. I prefer tea but rarely drink it, I drink hot chocolate more and don't often drink that either. How can people like it? Those who drink it, does it taste bitter/burnt to you? I know really, I am not BU because I can't help I don't like it, just for lighthearted chatter really lol

I adore coffee with a splash of cream, but I move on to decaf after lunch or I’d never sleep. I’ve just discovered that a double shot, topped up with hot water, tablespoon of sugar free hot chocolate and a glug of cream makes an amazing mocha! ❤️☕️

tabulahrasa · 20/07/2019 06:17

People just like different things...

To me grapefruits taste poisonous, yoghurt tastes off and wine all tastes like vinegar - but people like them.

Snoozanna · 20/07/2019 06:37

I love coffee and enjoy all the foodstuffs mentioned in this thread.

But fish, or any kind of seafood, is absolutely repellent to me.

sashh · 20/07/2019 06:44

That said I am a coffee snob, I only drink instant if I have too, I have a coffee machine at home (grind the beans etc).

No you never have to drink instant. Instant is evil, not quite as evil as strawberries, but fairly evil.

AnnabelleBronstein · 20/07/2019 06:48

Good coffee is the nectar of life.

YABU.

kallilla · 20/07/2019 06:56

I love coffee, it's the first drink of the day for me, from my Nespresso machine.

MindatWork · 20/07/2019 07:00

perhaps that's why I've had echo falls sweet wine tonight lol

You are massively U for this statement 🤮

BetsyBigNose · 20/07/2019 07:04

I can't stand coffee - but even more "shockingly" (to some), I don't like tea either!

People drinking tea and coffee make everywhere smell of ever-so slightly gone off milk, it's rank. Everyone around me drinks it (DH, DDs, DM, Colleagues etc.) so I'd never mention it, but it makes their breath stink as well as the immediate environment.

I'll stick to my lovely cold, fresh water thanks!

growlingbear · 20/07/2019 07:05

LOL @MrsTerryPratchett - it's true they do, but not all of us are. I drink way too much coffee - have loved it and drunk it since I was about six years old, and score extremely low of psychopath tests - way lower than average.

@Glitter99x Yes it tastes burned and bitter but I love those flavours. It tastes rich and dark and the smell genuinely makes me feel happy. But when I was pregnant it smelled repulsive to me and I felt sick. I used to make my husband's morning coffee holding my nose. So I sympathise with you. Must be hard these days when the centre of every English city reeks of Starbucks.

RedForShort · 20/07/2019 07:16

I think how people taste has to be in the genes.

I like coffee; drink without milk or sugar (don't like it with milk).

Whilst I eat sweet things I can only eat a certain amount before it gets too overwhelming. If I got a slice of chocolate cake I probably would eat the whole slice But I'd eat more of it, possibly all of it, if I had a coffee with it!

Don't like sweet things to drink. Couldn't drink a hot chocolate, not just as a plain hot chocolate, certainly not with marshmallows and cream!!!

(Sadly my lack of love for sweetness has not resulted in skininess!!)

Butchyrestingface · 20/07/2019 07:19

Coffee, olives, wine - all wrong, wrong, wrong. 🤮

Mushy peas on t’other hand... 😍😍😍

I’ve never had more than 2 sips of coffee in my life, so vile is it.

Eminybob · 20/07/2019 07:19

It totally depends on the coffee.
I drink it black from the machine at work because I like that particular coffee.
If I’m having it from a coffee shop my coffee of choice is a frappe latte from Nero. Or a flavoured latte if I’m not near a Nero.
If I’m at home I have instant with sweetener and loads of milk (don’t drink it enough to warrant getting a machine - when I’m at home I practically main line tea)
All taste completely different.

Onescaredmuma · 20/07/2019 07:20

I didn't like coffee but drank it for caffeine when I was at uni mainly expresso to just get it over. I actually love it now but I'm pretty sure I have more coffee in my veins than blood at this point. I still hate instant though that stuff is vile Envy (not envy)

EskewedBeef · 20/07/2019 07:27

I drink unsweetened black coffee. I like olives, most booze, mushy peas and sprouts, but I don't like cucumber unfortunately.

I like tea as well, but I do need a small dash of milk in it or it sucks all of the moisture out of my mouth.

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2019 07:30

I only like it with sugar and milk!

speakout · 20/07/2019 07:31

Most people probably don’t like the taste of coffee very much which is why they add lots of milk and sugar to it. They drink it for the caffeine, not the taste

I disagree.
Most people don't take sugar in coffee.
Many people enjoy the bitter taste.

Not everyone veers towards the sweet/milky when eating or drinking.
Some people prefer sharp/bitter/acidic foods- like olives, lemons etc.

None of my family have a sweet tooth, I notice my DDs Easter egg ( Lindt ) is still in her bedroom unopened.
She will however eat a whole lemon as a snack.

It's not all about the caffeine nor the desire for sugar. It's in the taste of coffee.

Angelika321 · 20/07/2019 07:32

I don't mind coffee, I love tea, love broccoli and coriander. I can't eat strong cheese, it tastes just like the smell of baby sick, grim.

Also most soft drinks have some kind of sweetener in them it's impossible to find any without it and I find if I drink one I get a weird aftertaste for hours afterwards and I feel really thirsty with it too.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 20/07/2019 07:34

I've had one coffee in my life! All I drink is water, I don't like anything else.

Doilooklikeatourist · 20/07/2019 07:35

I drink black coffee ( because I don’t like milk )
I can’t understand why anyone doesn’t like coffee ?
It smells lovely
Tastes delicious

I like instant coffee ( Gold Blend ) in the morning ( first thing ) and then I have coffee from a coffee machine through the day ( I work in a cafe )

We sell more coffee than tea

Most people don’t take sugar

I don’t understand why people drink latte ( isn’t it just coffee flavoured hot milk ? )

HellYeah90s · 20/07/2019 07:35

Grin @sashh

I have to drink this really cheap instant when I stay at PIL, we stayed at their holiday place for a week last summer and I really had the urge to bring a plunger...

Nothing beats the smell of freshly grinded coffee beans.

ZaraW · 20/07/2019 07:36

You are definitely NBU. I hate the smell and taste of coffee. I've had two cups in 48 years. Green Tea is my preferred choice.

makingmammaries · 20/07/2019 07:36

I like black coffee, beer and olives. Preferably mixed together. What is wrong with people?

AtmosClock · 20/07/2019 07:39

Are you quite young? I only ask as coffee is an acquired taste

Silene · 20/07/2019 07:41

Love real coffee, never instant, ugh, but knew I was pregnant before I missed a period, as the smell made me feel sick. But custard!...... disgusting, slithery horrible, no way. Once had it spooned into me at school dinner -with skin- never could swallow it again.

Pinkarsedfly · 20/07/2019 07:43

Olives taste of rich, salty sunshine.

Coffee tastes of autumn woodsmoke.
