AIBU to think that Boris Johnson is not fit to be Prime Minister?

Boris Johnson questioned why the Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar isn't "called Murphy like all the rest of them?"

www.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-angela-merkel-stasi-leo-varadkar-murphy-comments-brexit-2019-7?r=US&IR=T

No doubt Johnson will have common ground with Trump and will offer the NHS on a plate as part of a trade deal.

@PhilipJennings - But I can't believe the Simon Coveney fan club hasn't arrived on the thread.

Ooh yes. He's not as obvious as the Murphys but still yum.

Isthisafreename · 19/07/2019 17:26

@PhilipJennings - "But Leo's not from Cork...?"

bellinisurge · 19/07/2019 17:50

Bertie? @dustarr73 Pushing the boundaries there 😂

DuchessDumbarton · 19/07/2019 18:49

Oh yes, Simon Coveney.....brains and beauty

Isthisafreename · 19/07/2019 19:02

In the interests of good international relations, does anyone have recommendations of googleable non-Irish politicians?

JaneJeffer · 19/07/2019 19:36

Simon Coveney's intelligence is what makes him attractive and is in direct proportion to Jackie Healy-Rae.

PhilipJennings · 19/07/2019 20:37

@JaneJeffer not only is he intelligent but he is also a genuinely lovely man. He came along as guest speaker to an event I organised when I was a student and gave a talk and his time on a Saturday evening to benefit the uni and a group of high school students, and not only that but he offered to buy me a drink afterward in the student bar (although I had sponsorship tokens for that so it went the other way). He was very courteous and I like seeing him do well. Although it is of course much easier to like politicians when you don't have to live with them (I live in London now).

I remember his father was well liked and well thought-of too, and there was a lot of genuine sorrow when he died.

DuchessDumbarton · 19/07/2019 22:26

Yes, Philip- I met him once through an organisation thing. Impeccable manners.
I'm old enough to remember his father as being the same.

GibbonLover · 20/07/2019 01:31

@Isthisafreename How about Pedro Sanchez?

Isthisafreename · 20/07/2019 10:34

@GibbonLover - how have I never noticed him? I need to pay more attention to non- English speaking politics.

JaneJeffer · 20/07/2019 11:06

This thread has made me reminisce about the day of Storm Ophelia; eating a full sliced pan whilst watching Eoghan Murphy on the telly in his high-vis giving out to the eejits who thought it was a lovely day for a seaside stroll.

DuchessDumbarton · 20/07/2019 11:21

I used to think that Justin Trudeau was quite nice (until Canada went a bit bonkers on the gender identity thing)

EleanorReally · 20/07/2019 11:28

why are these papers quoting him, we Know what he is like, We have no choice, it isnt up to us.
the only thing up to us is when they go to a general election.

AgileLass · 20/07/2019 11:30

Loving this thread, and reminded of the frankly bizarre story of Bertie Ahern catfishing some young one last year

Also here’s a picture of Willie O’Dea, just because. Thank me later.

JaneJeffer · 20/07/2019 11:38

OMG Bertie!

DuchessDumbarton · 20/07/2019 12:30

I love the way this thread has totally diverted from Johnson's ridiculous remark and into a discussion of the attractions of (ahem) Willie O'Dea!!!!!!

dustarr73 · 20/07/2019 12:33

Bertie you old dog 😂😂

Isthisafreename · 20/07/2019 14:02

@EleanorReally - why are these papers quoting him, we Know what he is like, We have no choice, it isnt up to us.

I think it's important that this sort of stuff is reported so that the people who vote for him can see what he's like.

As you can see on this thread, the Irish people here are insulted because we have no respect for him to start with. He's a fecking eejit and we certainly don't hold him against normal British people. However, I would very much judge anyone who votes for him or similar.

Butterymuffin · 20/07/2019 14:04

He really is a disgusting individual. I hope he has a torrid time of it as PM and it shatters all his lifelong dreams.

Patroclus · 21/07/2019 15:21

I've always encountered 'bog trotter' as an insult for irish catholics from a unionist POV. Google says it can mean few things, so maybe people use it differently, but in this context its a word with bad connotations and a bad option (i.e the sort of thing johnson regularly does).

As for that scrotum, his last political job and latest joke of a relationship has shown us all we need to know.

Isthisafreename · 21/07/2019 15:37

@Patroclus - so similar to the urban/rural version in the rest of Ireland, just with a bit of religious bigotry thrown in.
