AIBU to think that Boris Johnson is not fit to be Prime Minister?

Boris Johnson questioned why the Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar isn't "called Murphy like all the rest of them?"

No doubt Johnson will have common ground with Trump and will offer the NHS on a plate as part of a trade deal.

Thumb! How are you?

I agree. We get the politicians we deserve. It appears our civilisation is allowing this.

Xenia · 19/07/2019 14:21

He didn't secure the leave vote (and I voted remain so I didn't either)) and Labour will be much much worse if they get in in 2020.

GrouchoMrx · 19/07/2019 14:21

Boris showing his expertise on history and trade:

Xenia. I also agree with you. Labour are quite the mess through a lack of leadership.

Piglet89 · 19/07/2019 14:23

@cardibach didn’t say he wasn’t intelligent at all - just not as clever as some keep banging on about, like he’s some kind of genius. Which he is most definitely NOT.

Anyway, from the second half of your post, I can see we agree more than we differ.

bellinisurge · 19/07/2019 14:25

Can we make a promise to ourselves to call him Johnson and not solely by his first name. Using solely his first name makes him sound like some sleb phenomenon to whom normal rules don't apply.
I know it's difficult to do because it is handy shorthand but I am trying to do it and suggest we all do to.
He is just another politician who will shaft some people and wank others.

cardibach · 19/07/2019 14:25

SuperSara it’s a good job Corbyn isn’t anti Semitic, doesn’t count on a magic money tree, doesn’t sympathise with violence in any form (including from the IRA) and isn’t Trotskyite then, isn’t it? You’ve bought the whole thing I see.
See the image for his record on antisemitism, where did the magic money come from to bribe the DUP (clue: money can be found for things those in power feel are important), the IRA thing is just nonsense, if you haven’t worked that out yet I’m not sure how anyone can help at this point, and compare Corbyn’s policy to any centre left government in Europe. He isn’t far left. British politics have just skewed massively right.

"Why isn't he called Murphy like the rest of them?"
notaflyingmonkey · 19/07/2019 14:26

As a member of the Labour party myself @Sara I can catagorically say you are talking out of your arse when you peddle shite like that. But then I think you know that.

How quickly people are to forget why the police were called on Boris.

mikado1 · 19/07/2019 14:27

LaurieMarlowe that's nearly worse!

Love your username!

cardibach · 19/07/2019 14:28

@Piglet89 absolutely we do - I just think it doesn’t pay to underestimate him!

MrPan · 19/07/2019 14:33

Well yes he is Mr Johnson. Or Boris Johnson. NOT Boris. He isn't a cartoon figure of a pop celeb. He is accorded the reference like anyone else. Not disrespectful. Just accurate.

JaneJeffer · 19/07/2019 14:34

.

powershowerforanhour · 19/07/2019 14:34

You know that bit in the film Gladiator where Commodus gets made emperor and his civil servant types come along with some paperwork as things like infrastructure and the army need managed, and he waves a languid hand and says "Don't bore me with that shit. Thirty days of games! And I want to be in them!"
In fact: lazy, selfish, arrogant, egotistical, desperate for public adoration, treats women like shit, cheats, nasty streak a mile wide.....BoJo is basically Commodus with floppy hair and unfunny bigoted jokes.

IncandescentShadow · 19/07/2019 14:36

But if we are to pick a politician who hasn't at some point in their life history said something that can be construed as racist, sexist, disablist, anti-woo, anti-left, anti-Semitic, has high level qualifications plus expertise in a well respected career or in running a business and has never made a mildly offensive comment on social media, we are left with no-one!

Or we might left with someone who never expresses an opinion on anything, even important issues, for fear of alienating the support they need to stay in power. But Teresa May is going.

Its all just a bunch of power-hungry control freaks competing against each other to get their friends into positions of power and make themselves rich. Doesn't matter what side they're on.

CollaterlyS1sters · 19/07/2019 14:37

Both of the parties have leaders (or soon to be leaders) who are fucking racist contemptible public schoolboy cunts. America is led by a demented psychopath. What a time to be alive Confused

Nannyamc · 19/07/2019 14:39

He must be fed up looking at all the murphy builders vans all around London!!!!!

MyFokMarelize · 19/07/2019 14:39

It’s “off”. Mind you, I expect a fairly low standard of education from someone who is unquestioning enough to support a racist, incompetent, lazy, dangerous fool like Boris

So much this. One shouldn't generalise, of course, but they do rather hand it over on a plate don't they!

BarbariansMum · 19/07/2019 14:40

Is it so hard to "pull off Brexit"? Surely you just have to faff about and let the clock run down? Achieving Brexit without screwing the country over - now that would be a neat trick!

BertsFriend · 19/07/2019 14:42

I'm Irish, I've had a good hard think about it but I'm still not offended.

MoobaaMoobaa · 19/07/2019 14:44

I’ll take Boris over any Leftie lovvies any day
What a stupid statement.

people need to stop with this tribe shite, and look at the bigger picture. we are totally fucked with this crop of politicians left and right

There is no body at the moment who should be trusted to run this country.

MrPan · 19/07/2019 14:45

So go on. Why are you not offended as an Irish person?

powershowerforanhour · 19/07/2019 14:48

"Why isn't he called Murphy like the rest of them?"

I don't know, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel. Maybe you could ask him.

Nannyamc · 19/07/2019 14:48

Because we have Leo

mikado1 · 19/07/2019 14:52

I'm Irish. I'm not offended as such, but I find it shockingly and I assume knowingly ignorant and dismissive. I'm too scornful of him to be offended.

I'm not a Leo fan but his parents were immigrants and reared a highly educated (he is a doctor) and successful (whether you like him or not) son, and then to have Boris Johnson refer to his surname like this .. I hope he's not offending anyone but making himself look really bad.

EskewedBeef · 19/07/2019 14:58

Johnson is a DVer, racist, incompetent, lazy, bog trotter

Bog trotter?! Where the fuck did that come from?! Check what these things mean before using them to accuse someone of racism 🙄
