I feel so ashamed I need to do something

Had some results yesterday from the recurrent miscarriage clinic and they outlined some health reasons why I should have IVF.

Only issue is I can't have IVF until my bmi is 30 and it's currently 49 😳 I spent all day yesterday crying, but today I feel like thats not helpful?

I need to change but I don't know how. I'm 27 and I weigh 19 stone 7 pounds, I can't have a baby until I'm at least 13 stone, I know I did this to myself but I don't know where to start to get rid of it.

I started the couch to 5k thing today and nearly died! But I have to do this. I can't not do this. I've also downloaded les mills on demand to try and do some workouts at home?

I'm so ashamed I got myself into this mess.

the Keto diet is so so hard. Its not for beginners. Although I did lose about 7lb in 5 days

BlackCatSleeping · 17/07/2019 14:10

I don't think it's a good idea for the OP to go straight on a very low calorie diet.

I knew someone who was very large and she lost loads of weight by sticking to 2000 kcals a day and walking for 30 minutes in her lunch hour.

Do you have Netflix? I watched Fat, sick and nearly dead and it kicked started my weight loss. 5 stone down so far

Exercise might make you hungrier. When I was running everyday I ate as much as a horse. Cutting calories is the best way to lose weight.

Everyone has a diet that works for them and you just have to find it. So try all the suggested diets and see what one you can live with - and lose weight.

Running when you are overweight can lead to joint damage btw.

I'm very much overweight right now due to taking steroids for 10 years and being disabled I can't move much at all to exercise.

The diet that is working for me is one where I only eat from 8am to 2pm. The nice thing is for those 6 hours I can eat the food I enjoy and don't have to settle for something such as a spoon full of cottage cheese and a slice of cucumber at every meal. Funny thing is I'm not stuffing myself & overeating during the 6 hours I eat. I cook the family meal and put my generous portion in a tupperware container to eat during my eating time. I go to bed hungry but happy to know a nice breakfast awaits. And I wake up feeling healthier.

I read the diet can lower blood glucose and do some other wonderful things. I believe it. Not eating for 18 hours gives your body chance to digest food and heal. (It's 8am here and 'eating time' starts and I'm not really hungry).

Good luck.

Do keto. Not as diet. But as a lifestyle.
Go exercise in a pool
Try hunger supressives

You want this baby?
You will lose this weight!

Make it a mantra in your head
"I will lose this weight and i will have a baby"

"Every kilo i lose brings me 1 kilo closer to having a baby"

"I will make this happen
I can do it
I will do it "

Do it girl! I know you can Blush

Hugs, but the good news is lowering your bmi could mean you don't need ivf either. C25k, sign up to park run (lots walk remember) and see if your local parks have outdoor gyms (also free) but other tip is a food diary , on paper or your phone, be truthful, just write down everything - I quickly realised I was eating too much

FermatsTheorem · 17/07/2019 17:35

Regardless of OP's weight, sadly the discovery that her husband is carrying the gene for Huntington's means that if OP and her DH decide to go ahead with having children once they've received counselling, they would probably be advised to have IVF regardless of OP's BMI, so that pre-implantation screening can be done.

Hugs and Flowers OP.

Weight loss is 80% diet. Get my fitness pal and religiously enter in what you eat. Make vegetables 80% of your diet and drink only water or black coffee/tea.

SarahPickles · 17/07/2019 19:50

I have been overweight all my life and have tried every diet and exercise routine known to humankind. There is only one thing that has ever worked for me:

1 Allow yourself 1500-1600 calories a day.

2 research online the most amount of satisfying foods you can eat for that amount

3 Create an account at MyFitnessPal and log everything you eat and drink. When it reaches 1500 stop eating for that day.

Weigh yourself once a week.

Don't worry about exercise.

I guarantee you will lose weight.

KarmaStar · 17/07/2019 20:21

Don't feel ashamed op please.
Instead concentrate on reaching your goal.
Don't entertain negative thoughts.
Try mindful eating you think about getting a snack stop and ask yourself if you are really hungry?do you need it?if you need to eat something keep something like sliced watermelon in the fridge, delicious and filling.
Try and exercise, even if it's a short period on a busy day, every bit helps.
Don't try to deny yourself everything you like, just have a small amount,i.e.you fancy chocolate, snap a KitKat into single bars and just eat one.
Best of luck,I'm sure your baby boy will be here before you know it.Flowers

What @SarahPickles posted above is the only thing that has worked for me (as in lost weight and it has stayed off 10 years later). I personally find that the most satisfying foods tend to be high in protein (which from this thread seems to be a theme that works for many people). I couldn't be doing with Keto or a diet like that though - for me it's too restrictive and I have a "fuck-it" switch that goes off which means I won't stick to it. That is just me though - everyone is different as other folk are saying.

I wouldn't worry about exercise too much at this stage. It gets so much easier with exercise if you can lose some of the weight first, and for me making the dietary changes was enough of a focus at first.

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/07/2019 21:49

I hate to say it because I didn't end up wanting to stick with it but fucking hell Keto works. And fucking quickly too.

It made my epilepsy better too, but I only had to lose a stone and it worked so quickly that my old anorexia brain reared it's ugly head and I started mentally pushing the target lower and lower so doctor said nope, too dangerous and not the one for you.

But it worked really quickly and massively helped with my epilepsy, so I try to be mindful of that and have adapted my diet to a kind of keto-lite one to maintain but not lose more.

There are some brilliant keto apps that work EVERYTHING out for you because I personally found the science and food weighting too complicated.

Diet is going to see your weight come down so much quicker than exercise at this point - it's brilliant you're doing both but don't fall into the denial that you can keep eating the same and go running fairly frequently - this will have little impact for a long time in comparison to keto.

Tbf I don't really like bread / rice but do like patsta so I had a bit of a headstart. And the plus side is you can have shit loads of nice stuff on it.

Anyway, if you can save some money for it I would see a private nutritionist a couple of times to put together a plan.

Good luck my love xx
