Who REALLY separates their undies from towels in the wash Hmm am I and everyone I know grubby ?! I feel this is a waste of water, electricity, time and money!

(Video is Lynsey on This Morning telling us we should make sure our bras are clipped together and separate them from towels before we wash) I wanna know how she has the time.

I do sometimes drink over the recommended alcohol units in a week if I have a party to attend.

ThighsRelief · 20/07/2019 00:18

That's why you stink of shit.

You're meant to wash your clothes in the vodka, not drink it.

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 20/07/2019 00:34

Is it ok to drink the vodka after I've washed my knickers in it?

ThighsRelief · 20/07/2019 00:55

It would be rude not to, each glass of vodka has been through 8 Londoners before it reaches you.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 20/07/2019 08:54

Would gin work just as well?

What about Stella?

woodhill · 20/07/2019 08:58

Lights. From dark, wool wash or delicate for jumpers etc and some bras or hand wash them.

Tea towels with other laundry

I'm thankful that we have a frequent supply of water in relation to some poorer nationsSmile

AdoraBell · 20/07/2019 08:59

I’m not wasting my vodka washing my undies 😱

woodhill · 20/07/2019 09:06

Meh - watched video, recognising the nude bra Fern was showing first which is a Fantasie Rebecca bra that definitely should be hand washed separately.

I usually iron tea towels and if the knickers were dirty as the expert described I would soak first anyway

DonkeyHohtay · 20/07/2019 09:14

How do people have enough headspace to worry about this nonsense? Separate washes, different temperatures, "germs" and "poo particles" everywhere.

In this house everything goes in together. Everything gets washed at 40c. We've had the washing machine 12 years and I think I've done a 60c wash once when the norovirus hit.

Seriously people. Unclench. All this washing and high temperatures is doing the planet no favours.

IncrediblySadToo · 20/07/2019 10:31

No ‘worrying’ goes on here at all & some of you are ckearky ‘challenged’ If washing things separately is too difficult for you to contemplate

Knickers go in the bedroom laundry boxes and get washed with appropriate coloured clothing.

Tea towels are in the kitchen, they dry on the rail then get put in a small laundry box in the kitchen

It takes NO thought & NO effort to wash them separately.

Anyone washing cloth nappies & tea towels together, that’s truly rank. 🤮

Some people also seem to be struggling with the concept that it doesn’t use anymore water to wash separated loads than mixed loads. None of us are only washing two tea towels or two pairs of pants on their own 🙄

JustDanceAddict · 20/07/2019 10:33

I just separate whites and darks - that’s it.
Usually do towels and bedding separately but that’s coz they’re a full wash on their own

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 20/07/2019 11:15

I don't believe people who say the wash everything together.

Are you seriously saying you'd wash a white baby vest in with a pair of black jeans that have got muddy at the bottom in with a lacy bra in with a bright red flannel etc?

No wonder some people's clothes look like rags after a few washes.

Badabingbadabum · 20/07/2019 11:47

I do, but only because towels, tea towels, clothes and sheets all go in at 90. Everything is either white or dark blue bath towels so its easy to sort and fill a couple of loads a week. I wouldn't put my underwear on a hot wash so it gets sorted into lights, darks and then they go in at 40 or 30. Anything like towels that don't go on a hot wash smell funny after a while. I compost, don't drive, really try and limit single use plastic and all that stuff so feel like I can justify a couple of hot washes a week.

SaraNade · 20/07/2019 15:50

I'm on my own these days, so everything is in one load. But even when I wasn't on my own, everything when go in one or two loads maximum. All clothes (shirts, undies, dresses, skirts, socks, trousers etc) in one, and the bedsheets and towels in the other. I don't really use tea towels anymore, (having a dishwasher the machine mostly dries them and I leave the door open for awhile after it has stopped) The less loads you do, the less you pay in electricity and water. And the better for the environment. I am gobsmacked at some the things I'm reading on this thread. Oh, and I have never had a problem with colours in with whites. Ever. I think most clothes nowadays have non-run dye anyway. I have always read about not mixing colours, but have never done it, it seems bizarre to me to go to that bother when nothing bad happens anyway. Grew up doing it in the one load, have lasted to near mid-40s, and have never, NEVER ever seen any colour run. Not once. Ever. It's like a big myth to me. And my white shirts are not grey either, they are very white. Some are old and holey, and still, very white.

Redruby25 · 20/07/2019 15:55

We live in shared housing, so I have had to do washing when I can, and more so since bubba came along. I admit, I do tend to go through my washing basket and put things in piles depending on colour/different fabrics and wash that way. I feel I notice the difference when too much has been washed together, or the wrong items together, but I do appreciate it takes extra time. Note I don't just wash a few items and waste washes, I usually wait for a pile to build up, of course the only issue with that is then where to dry it all! We are fortunate to have a garden, otherwise for a large part of the year, I don't know what I would do! But when it is cold and/or raining it can be tricky, but then I guess with energy in mind, perhaps it is better that we don't have a dryer too!

I’m very proud of my heirloom rags, some are very old. They look very fetching worn in layers. When I rule the world people like Mrs Hinch will be put in stocks for people to throw their dirty knickers at.

SlocombePooter · 20/07/2019 18:16

yo may that day be soon....we are suffocating in anti-bac!

ThighsRelief · 20/07/2019 19:10

Pussy what of your continuous double incontinency, does that influence your laundry choices or do you douse everything in champagne?

BrownGirl22 · 20/07/2019 20:55

Oh, and I have never had a problem with colours in with whites. Ever.

You must be extremely lucky then. Especially when it comes to blues, which always run a little when new in my opinion. Are you saying you put heavy dark blue jeans in and they never dye?

There's a reason why colour catchers sell.
I read that particularly with new clothes you are meant to wash separately first before wearing to reduce potential for skin reactions to loose dye. Not something I always do, but my son brought me a pair of pyjamas bottoms fron Thailand recently and as soon as put them on I got very itchy and soaked then washed them by hand. Lots of blue came out.

Washing whites with colours results in dingy whites.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 20/07/2019 21:42

Surely the point of a washing machine is that everything comes out clean, not that dirt or germs just transfer from one item to another, what would be the point? I do one dark load and one light load, I'm not separating bloody knickers and t-towels and god knows what else to 8 different loads Confused

Wombleish · 20/07/2019 21:46

Is this thread still going? I thought we'd established that everyone should burn their knickers and teatowels after one use, and in separate furnaces, otherwise they're minging slagz?

YoThePussy · 20/07/2019 22:48

Thigh currently immersed in a bath of champagne so I can suck it up through every pore in my body. Had a gargantuan bonfire of knickers and t-towels earlier, the flying embers did look so pretty in the night sky. None of the former left so going commando tomorrow, might pop up west to Harrods for new stocks.

sarahfairy · 20/07/2019 22:51

Oh I just shove everything in, I don't care what it is. It's getting washed.

I don't separate colours either, never had a problem. If I do have a lot of washing then I'll separate darks and lights....but that never happens because I just shove everything in all in one! It equals less washing!
