(Video is Lynsey on This Morning telling us we should make sure our bras are clipped together and separate them from towels before we wash) I wanna know how she has the time.

Oh Christ.

I wash everything together. I don’t have the time or inclination to separate stuff.

Never had any colours run either.

EBearhug · 16/07/2019 16:29

I do wash towels separately, but I can fill a load with just towels.

Nautiloid · 16/07/2019 16:31

Huh? I just lob everything in together. I've never thought about it.
Do feel slightly grim now though...but not enough to change my disgusting ways. Grin

lovelylondonsky · 16/07/2019 16:31

I wash everything together. My mother would go mad if she knew!

IncrediblySadToo · 16/07/2019 16:32

Knickers & t-towels together NO WAY

Knickers get washed with same colour clothes T towels get their own wash. Bath towels get washed with other bath & hand towels

It’s NOT time consuming nor difficult NOT to wash t towels with your knickers. That’s just GRIM.

kittie01 · 16/07/2019 16:34

I use knickers as tea towels Grin I separate lights from darks and that’s it. Lynsey obviously doesn’t do the washing in her house

Siameasy · 16/07/2019 16:35

Never occurred to me to separate on that basis. I am still standing and not struck down by plague or such like. What do people think will happen if a pair of pants and a tea towel are mixed? I wash cloth san pro with everything else too.

Mia1415 · 16/07/2019 16:36

It all gets chucked in together in my house.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 16/07/2019 16:36

There's only two of us. One dark load, one lights/whites and a bedding wash weekly is all we generate.

My machines are massive - no way could i split it all out

All gets tumbled tho and that kills bugs. And the white wash gets laundry bleach in it too.

whenimdreaming · 16/07/2019 16:37

I've never understood this. The point is that they all come out clean at the end so why does it matter what goes in with what?

I separate by colour or whites and everything goes on a 30 wash!

Wavey123 · 16/07/2019 16:38

I only separate lights from darks and wouldn’t ever think of separating knickers, they get washed in the machine so it’s no problem.

Regarding colour separation though, not wishing to sound like a snob I have friends that don’t separate their whites and all their white tops look grey and washed out, it really makes a difference and separating means you don’t have to buy new so often

DappledThings · 16/07/2019 16:38

How is it grim? They are getting washed so they are coming out clean. I chuck teatowels and cleaning cloths in the machine as soon as they are finished with so they get washed with the next wash whenever that is

Thistly · 16/07/2019 16:39

Depends how many degrees you wash at really.
Iknow there’s this ‘if it’s not dirty, wash it at thirty’ crap. Frankly I say if it’s not dirty, don’t wash it. I always wash at 60 due to allergies, and reckon this kills most bacteria etc. In addition I line dry so everything gets a good dose of uv light. My washing is not grim.

littlewriggler · 16/07/2019 16:39

I have a separate basket for dirty towels and they get washed separately. Mostly because towel washes don't need to be colour separated because I don't care what colour they end up. To offset any cleanliness superiority I may feel from washing towels separately to underwear, I feel that I should point out that I only change my bath towel once a week Grin

Raffles1981 · 16/07/2019 16:39

But it is all being washed clean so..... why bother? I really cannot imagine stretching out the biggest job in the house (washing endless amounts of clothes/towels etc) out any more. It takes up enough of my damn time!

SpotlessMind · 16/07/2019 16:40

I was teatowels with regular towels on a hotter wash than I’d use for underwear so I wouldn’t wash them together. I don’t think I’m wasting electricity/water/etc though as I wait until I have a full load before putting a wash on anyway

adaline · 16/07/2019 16:40

Knickers & t-towels together NO WAY

Why? If your washing machine works properly, then won't everything come out clean anyway?

PianoPiano · 16/07/2019 16:41

But everything comes out clean, doesn't it? So why does it matter? If your knickers come out of the washing machine with "poo particles" still on them they haven't been washed properly...

Using that logic If you wash only tea towels together they might have different germs on them and then one tea towel could spread its germs to the other tea towels....(?)

lazylinguist · 16/07/2019 16:41

That’s just GRIM. Hmm

No. It's not. They both get clean - that's what washing things does. If your knickers didn't come out of the washing machine clean, you wouldn't want to put them back on, would you? If your tea towels didn't come out clean, you wouldn't want to use them on your dishes. They both come out clean, so what on earth is the problem?

formerbabe · 16/07/2019 16:42

Gross

MysweetAudrina · 16/07/2019 16:42

Once you are not using your worn knickers as a tea towel then I think you should be ok. Tea towels probably have more bacteria on them than knickers anyway so I wouldn't worry about.

I normally throw tea towels in with towels and or sheets and wash at 60 and normally knickers and socks just go in with jeans, tshirts etc only because I put towels etc in a different wash basket so the whole lot goes in.

Nesssie · 16/07/2019 16:43

My mother never washes underwear and socks with towels.

But I just chuck everything in together at 60.
I do 3 loads- Lights, Darks, Everything else.

JangledBat · 16/07/2019 16:43

I do a separate towel wash because I can fill the machine with them, and I do them on a hotter wash

RiftGibbon · 16/07/2019 16:44

Everything gets washed together: towels, socks, dishcloths, knickers, dresses - unless they are delicates (like the sodding karate wear).

I don't have the time or inclination to separate things out by type.

notso · 16/07/2019 16:44

I don't wash underwear with tea towels, I use different cycles for them.
I'm not sure what folk have against separating laundry, it takes zero time.
