Who REALLY separates their undies from towels in the wash Hmm am I and everyone I know grubby ?! I feel this is a waste of water, electricity, time and money!

(Video is Lynsey on This Morning telling us we should make sure our bras are clipped together and separate them from towels before we wash) I wanna know how she has the time.

Tea towels are just folded and pooped on top of washing machine

Well, that's taking the middle man of knickers out of it anyway...

Mine is basically lights, darks, bedding, towels in the washing machine. No fancy underwear but the hand-knitted socks do get separate attention. I have a dishwasher and leave anything else to air dry - always have since I read a report years ago on how germy tea towels get.

bramblepop · 17/07/2019 05:38

Why do all you teatowel separators have poo particles on your knickers anyway?? Wipe your bum properly! And you call US grim?!

LazyFace · 17/07/2019 06:07

Well... I just found a pair of my son's underwear tucked next to the toilet with skidmarks.
I wash my teatowels separately, I have enough to make up a full load with the washable napkins. I wash them at 95 C. That's the only load I do at a high temp and it prevents limescale buildup in the machine.

OneStepSideways · 17/07/2019 06:10

Underwear goes in the same wash as clothes, 30 or 40.

Towels separately but mixed with sheets is ok. Usually on 60

Tea towels, cleaning cloths and rags get washed at 90 on a 3-hour cycle here, as they harbour the most bacteria.

RighteousSista · 17/07/2019 06:28

Apparently it is a cultural practice. my nan said it was something to do with indoor clothes versus outdoor ( work) clothes. Clothes that are immediately close to the body ( underwear) also top and bottom half of body. Probably a historical legacy when people didn't have washing machines, washed less than we do now and when disease more prevalent?

RighteousSista · 17/07/2019 06:30

Yes I boil wash tea towe ls but with bath towels & bath matsl

The tea towel is such a British thing!😊

YoThePussy · 17/07/2019 06:47

I am planning on doing some washing today and have learned much from this thread about acceptable practices. On balance I shall continue in my customary slovenly manner of shoving everything in the machine together and hoping for the best.

40 degrees and an extra spin cycle should beat the shit (literally) out of any poo particles lingering. Couple of nights hanging in the garden as well so the spiders can check it over and give it all a good willy scrape and I will be ready for anything.

RighteousSista · 17/07/2019 06:55

Sorry I keep thinking of POO fighters now!

Puts on some Dave Grohl music whilst looking for mind bleach to put in a hot wash

😂

MaybeitsMaybelline · 17/07/2019 06:56

All my whites go on 60 and if that is a mixture of tea towels, knickers or DDs uniform (which coming from the hospital is likely to have numerous splashes of bodily fluids on it and contamination of various bugs) then so be it.

The hospital guidance is that her uniform should be washed at 60 for infection control. If it’s good enough for the hospital then it’s good enough for knickers and tea towels to come out of the same good wash without any bum particles on either.

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 17/07/2019 07:27

I do towels and sheets at 60 so I do wash them separately to knickers which get washed according to colour (lights, whites or darks) and at 40 or 30 depending on how delicate they are.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 08:07

So where are we all on bidets?

EBearhug · 17/07/2019 08:14

I don't think a bidet would fit in the washing machine, though I've never actually tried.

mydogisthebest · 17/07/2019 08:15

I have never even thought about poo particles on clothes. I wash tea towels/towels and underwear separately because towels need to be washed at 60 and underwear should not be washed at that high a temperature.

Also I put fabric conditioner in with clothes and underwear but not towels or tea towels. Fabric conditioner is what makes towels go hard. You should use white vinegar and they stay soft and fluffy

ooooohbetty · 17/07/2019 08:15

I do my washing by everything goes in (no laundry basket) after it becomes dirty. Then it is all washed together. Whites, darks, towels, knickers, socks, tea towels. All washed together. Still alive.

SlocombePooter · 17/07/2019 08:18

Well Dangly how you wash your feet is your business!

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 08:24

I have a twin tub. I sat on it and dip my bum in the water for a jolly good wash.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 08:28

PUSSY why haven't you been stalking me?

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 08:29

That's s good idea Thigh, actually i could wash my willy in my front loader!

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 08:30

Poor Dangly is a martyr to her leprosy.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 08:31

I would reply to that but my hand just fell off!

SlocombePooter · 17/07/2019 08:31

That's genius thigh, but remember the twin tub rules, which are: towels and sheets first, then dark colours, then delicates, then bum. You can pop the dogs in once it's cool enough.

I salute you for saving the planet!

cavalier · 17/07/2019 08:33

Ugh that is not hygienic at all
Tea towels need to go on 60 degree wash anyway as far as I’m concerned

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 08:37

🏴‍☠️

Passionaria · 17/07/2019 08:37

So where are we all on bidets
Balanced carefully on each others' shoulders - rather like the human towers in Tarragona.

Whites once a week, darks every couple of weeks. Everything washed at 60, no fabric softener, non bio detergent. Damp clothes on the airer or in the hot cupboard - done.

YoThePussy · 17/07/2019 08:38

Thighs oh but I have. I crouch breathing heavily over my i-pad reading your words of wisdom.

I aspire to a gusset scrubbing brush, don’t know about a bidet. New fangled forin things. A squirt around the bum hole area with a hosepipe daily clears out the clinkers. The NDNs enjoy watching me do it so what’s not to like.
