Who REALLY separates their undies from towels in the wash Hmm am I and everyone I know grubby ?! I feel this is a waste of water, electricity, time and money!

(Video is Lynsey on This Morning telling us we should make sure our bras are clipped together and separate them from towels before we wash) I wanna know how she has the time.

For those who wash undies and tea towels separately, do you also have separate laundry baskets?

zingally · 17/07/2019 08:46

I separate lights and darks, and everything gets thrown in on a 60 degrees wash.

Genuinely don't care how people do their washing, as long as they don't comment on how I do mine!

pippistrelle · 17/07/2019 08:46

Unless you have separate washing machine containing each contaminant, then you're deluding yourself that separate washes are cleaner.

And here's a thought for you - what about contamination of your knickers from someone else's in the household?

So, I reckon about 7 washing machines are needed for a family to be truly not 'grim'. Or maybe just a dose of perspective would do the trick.

Lweji · 17/07/2019 08:46

The hospital guidance is that her uniform should be washed at 60 for infection control.

Just pointing out that washing machine temperatures are the maximum achieved. Most don't reach them.
If clothes must be washed at 60oC then the machine setting should be higher to achieve it as a minimum.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 09:08

zingally I'm appalled at your washing regime.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 09:10

Pussy but do you? I hide out in a secret section with my cabal, you should join us. Bring your jewels, we need the cash.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 09:12

Well I purchased Indian washing nuts and 7 legally insane Indian gentlemen turned up and started pummelling my unmentionables with their testiculators.

beanaseireann · 17/07/2019 09:14

Aren't the tea towels and knickers being swished around together in hot water and detergent. I don't see the problem.
First world concern.
Amazingly the human race survived through that long spell without washing machines, detergent, tea towels and knickers ! Smile

Those people who wash bath towels after one use- surely if you've just had a bath or shower you are clean so drying yourself with a towel won't make it dirty. Just sayin.

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 09:14

Pussy, if you join us in Thighland, we might be able to rustle up a gusset scrubbing brush as a welcome gift.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 09:15

And before anyone says Im racist for assuming they're Indian, the packaging was labelled.

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 09:16

I lick my knickers clean.

hellotoyellow · 17/07/2019 09:19

I just put the towels in with the baby's wet cloth nappies...

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 09:24

Thigh do you dry your knickers and tea towels with your fanny like you do with the dishes?

WellTidy · 17/07/2019 09:25

I am gobsmacked at this thread. I have found MN to be an education (in a good way) so many times, but this is an eye opener as to how so many people think. I honestly thought I had laundry 100% sussed.

I only separate by colour - whites/lights/reds/darks. All go in at 40 degrees. Bedding also at 40, bath and hand towels at 60. Delicates at whatever the label tells me.

Tea towels are all light, so they do in a lights wash. Undies are various colours, so they are washed with other items of that colour.

ThighsRelief · 17/07/2019 09:26

Oh Dangly of course, it's eco friendly.

YoThePussy · 17/07/2019 09:38

Ambassador Thigh you spoil me. Can I have an edifice of Ferraro Rocher as well!

Wombleish · 17/07/2019 09:38

Well I think you're all minging for wearing knickers that need washing at all, you should all have your flaps swinging free in the breeze and letting your poo crumbage fall where it may.

Lweji · 17/07/2019 09:50

Tea towels may contain Salmonella from drying up the washed chicken.

I wash my tea towels separately as they are a health and safety risk for the rest of the clothes.

In fact, I often wear rubber gloves and face mask just in case.

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 09:52

I wear the full hazmat suit whenever i do the washing, you can't be too careful.

LaurieMarlow · 17/07/2019 09:54

Tea towels may contain Salmonella from drying up the washed chicken.

Hang on, are you drying a chicken with a tea towel?!?! Shock

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 09:55

But do you then steam clean yourself Dog like I do? I do it every single moment of every single day, well I did do until my skin fell off!

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 09:55

I put my raw chicken in the tumble drier after I've washed it, saves making a t towel dirty.

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 17/07/2019 09:57

I have laundry bags in my laundry basket, so I use them to bag different washes up as I acrue stuff for them. I never put any towels or cloths or sheets in those bags.

DanglyWhoreTassels · 17/07/2019 09:57

Thigh can dry her chickens with her flaps, much more hygienic that way!

HairyDogsInUnusualPlaces · 17/07/2019 09:57

Dangly, i just spray myself with bleach, it stings a bit, especially when i do my eyes, but at least I'm CLEAN.
