To feel sorry for Meghan Markle - she looked lonely holding baby Archie at the Polo game

KinderEgg23 · 11/07/2019 14:41

Did anyone else think Meghan Markle looked sad and lonely while holding baby Archie at Harry's polo game yesterday? There she was in the sunshine with her new baby while approx 2 metres away was her sister in law Kate completely wrapped up in her own children looking smug and not even glancing in poor Meghan's direction. There were loads of pictures taken and not one showed her chatting to Meghan or even looking at her, complete zero effort. The only ones who seemed to interact with Meghan and Archie were 1 year old Prince Louis and Harry when he finished the game! Kate is obviously not as sweet or friendly as she'd like the public to believe. Meghan gets so much criticism but she comes across as more down to earth and genuine.

@Lettie48
That is not a nice thing to say about William, Royals or anyones dp

I doubt the poster intended to be nice.

There is no obligation to be nice all the time. In fact, it has to be bad for your psyche to pretend to be so

Imagine literature without Alexander Pope or Juvenal.

Imagine literature without Alexander Pope or Juvenal

Excellent MN shoehorn there Grin You must realise that millions and millions of people quite happily ONLY know literature without Juvenal.

Or do they just THINK that they do Grin.

Not apologising for the brief derail btw. This thread bloody needs one!

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 12/07/2019 02:20

Mums always made a point of letting their older children play together and coming over with their baby/toddler and chatting, giving me advice etc being as I was a first timer and everything was new! I was always grateful to chat to others who had experience of motherhood and worn the t-shirt as it were, especially in the early days!

Do you honestly think Kate is going to start dishing out advice to Meghan at a polo game it's really not the same as meeting some random new mother at the toddler group.
Kate doesn't need to look after Meghan the whole day because she's carrying a baby, ffs Kate's got three of them.

A couple of photos and suddenly everyone's an expert on their relationship and inferring all manner of shite when in fact, no one knows anything.

And the voice of reason from some on here & thanks to @mummmy2017 for pointing out what happened away from the cameras.

Shebertherbert · 12/07/2019 07:16

I am not sure why people still think Meghan is desperate for a title. He could have had one. The didn't want that. Harry grew up in the gold fish bowl. His son isn't a direct heir and doesn't need to. So he is drawing a line in the sand and protecting his child from the press that hounded his mother to death. From the people who stood taking pictures of her in the crash rather than getting help.
He knows he cant really leave the Royal family. That would put more pressure on his brothers shoulders. The press would still follow him anyway. Like they did his mother.
In my opinion Harry and Meghan were fully aware of the backlash and hate they would get from the press. But I think they are prepared to deal with the bad press now. So Archie wont have too. People already seem to think they have a right to know everything about that baby. It will only get worst as he gets older. They care more about protecting their child than their own image, good on them.

NoSauce · 12/07/2019 07:23

Jesus, if I had 3 kids to look after, I wouldn't have the time or energy to be looking after another grown up and her baby. Why didn't MM pay any attention to poor Kate, struggling with 3 kids? Eh?

KM has at least one nanny, which I’m positive would have been there at the match. Struggling with three kids GrinHmm

And plus I doubt MM needs or wants KM to look after her or her baby. Ridiculous woman ( you )

NoSauce · 12/07/2019 07:26

Indeed. I bet it grates the majority on this thread to read about Kate and William cuddling Archie. It shatters their illusion of the then all despising each other.

allibaby · 12/07/2019 07:30

What a nasty thread.
It seems neither Kate or Meghan can do right no matter what in the eyes of some.
It's so fucking childish of certain posters to use their dislike of one woman to bash the other.

It is also quite obvious that some women in this thread seem to have very jealous personalities.

Grow up!

OutComeTheWolves · 12/07/2019 07:31

@Winterlife I know someone who has a very successful career as a violinist. Her father paid for music lessons from an early age, sent her to a very well renowned music college and used his connections to secure her a place in a well known orchestra. Incidentally her father has also done some pretty shitty things to her over the years. She no longer speaks to him despite the fact that he is 'responsible' for her success. Totally the right call as far as I'm concerned. Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of MM's life but she doesn't owe him a place in her life.

@Iamnotagoddess plenty of the comments are racist too. Just a quick browse and I saw some commenting that her mum had been to prison (?), that she should go back to Compton/the hood/the ghetto, talking about taking her weave off etc. Racism is far more insidious that someone in a white hood saying they hate black people. In MMs case it's people's horror that she's managed to 'infiltrate' the royal family obviously using sly and cunning and not because Harry fell in love with her. It's getting angry when black women step outside their box and it's holding black people to a much higher standard than anyone else - I haven't seen anyone comment of Louis lack of hat, not staying in the shade, looking chilly without a coat. This type of racism is a pain in the arse because it's much harder to call out but it's definitely there.

Winterlife · 12/07/2019 09:11

It won’t change my opinion of her. Until then, I was neutral toward her. If he were so terrible, he would not have raised her, nor would he have a current relationship with his other children.

I do think the criticism of her weight is horrid, though.

CarolDanvers · 12/07/2019 09:25

Well I had to google Grin

butmaybe · 12/07/2019 09:25

Some very embarassing comments on here - how are adults so jealous? Why is making comments like this, and being so invested in it all, your entertainment.
Love the people pointing all this out, there's a lot to help people reflect.

This is really worth repeating though: (thanks @OutComeTheWolves, excellent explanation)

Quite. I’ll reiterate the aforementioned “there's something in her eyes that makes me think she's a devious woman with a plan, and serving the British public is not why she wanted the position” as a prime case in point.

The thinly veiled racism, blatant ignorance and apparent psychic abilities of the idiots who spout this guff is utterly revolting.

Yep. But they’re that thick it won’t even register that your comment is regarding them.

Whilst I thought that the comment about 'something in her eyes' was ludicrous and pathetic to reference any racism in the comment is just as weird.

I wish people would leave them alone, good god have we learnt absolutely nothing from the Diana years?

@NeckPainChairSearch
ShockGrin
Then I pity those millions!

Juvenal is my crack cocaine. Not only did he give all sorts of famous expressions to Western culture, but he's just so OTT and vicious that reading him is a sheer delight.

"What! Postumus, are you, you who once had your wits, taking to yourself a wife? Tell me what Tisiphone, what snakes are driving you mad? Can you submit to a she-tyrant when there is so much rope to be had, so many dizzy heights of windows standing open, and when the Aemilian bridge offers itself to hand? Or if none of all these modes of exit hit your fancy, how much better to take some boy-bedfellow, who would never wrangle with you o' nights, never ask presents of you when in bed, and never complain that you took your ease and were indifferent to his solicitations!"

PCohle · 12/07/2019 10:54

Oh FFS.

contrary13 · 12/07/2019 14:04

Okay, Ribrabrob - that's your opinion... on someone expressing their own opinion. I do feel sorry for a new mother seemngly out of her depth, and held up - in the National Press, no less - against a sister-in-law, who didn't have such scrutiny when she had her first child.

I didn't insult Megan Markle, nor would I - I simply stated that the entire Royal Family is more than a little dysfunctional... and I do speak from knowledge. Whereas you?

Let's see... insulted me. Got on the defensive. Immediately.

Says more about you than it ever will about me. Biscuit

Rosiesandposies1 · 12/07/2019 14:13

I know the conversation has probably moved on from me saying this, however, how many times as mums to we take a little walk away from people when trying not to settle our baby, get them to sleep, especially when there are small children around? Doesn’t say anything about Meghan and Kate’s relationship, a photo says a thousand words? Only if you are reading the photo in the right way to begin with.

PCohle · 12/07/2019 14:23

held up - in the National Press, no less - against a sister-in-law, who didn't have such scrutiny when she had her first child.

You have a very short memory if you think Kate wasn't under ridiculous scrutiny when she had Prince George.

LaurieMarlow · 12/07/2019 14:25

I don’t remember any scrutiny when she had George. Before the wedding, a bit, but not at that point.

I don’t even remember outcry when she left him at 8 months or something for a luxury long haul holiday.

Imagine the flack Meghan would get if she did that Shock

Eliza9919 · 12/07/2019 14:35

Why was my post deleted @MNHQ? I didn't post anything out of order.

PCohle · 12/07/2019 14:37

Just because you didn't remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen. People have bizarrely short memories about how Kate has been treated by the press - especially when it suits their narrative about Meghan being treated unfairly.

The DM headline for trip you're talking about was "Royals jet off into a storm of protest as they leave George at home during Maldives get away", for example, and the comments (and quotes taken from MN!) are vitriolic. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2576512/amp/Royals-jet-storm-protest-leave-George-home-Maldives-getaway.html

LaurieMarlow · 12/07/2019 14:41

Apart from that though, can you give any other examples?

Because that action was somewhat out of the ordinary and I see why it was criticised. It’s not comparable to ‘he’s not wearing socks’
