Off on a bit of a tangent - I thought putting a hat on a bed was considered bad luck?

NoSauce · 09/07/2019 14:21

My bed looks like the second picture, no hats or teddies though.

Jaggypinecone · 09/07/2019 14:22

Oh couldn't be arsed with that faff. Can't be arsed with excess cushions in general. Remember seeing an article in some Homestyle mag discussing 'decorating your sofa'. FFS Decorate it with your arse!!! It's a modern day pile of pish for us to buy into. Who even did this ten years ago?

ChristmasArmadillo · 09/07/2019 14:23

I have an “Instagram bed”, always have since before Instagram was a thing. A nicely made and decorated bed makes me feel ready to face the day.

Lweji · 09/07/2019 14:24

@howwudufeel
I’m surprised nobody has come along to complain about fancy beds and that all they need is a clothesline to sleep on...

Because that would be stupid and the type of hyperbole that MN myths are made of. But don't let it keep you from complaining about a statement that nobody has ever or will ever make.

akdln23rijwoicxvnds · 09/07/2019 14:24

After leaving my bedroom in the morning, I only go back in there to go to bed at night. Or occasionally to change my clothes. That's it. So I don't really care what it looks like. (I have never once "made" my bed)

Jaggypinecone · 09/07/2019 14:26

LOL at 'Cluttery shite'

Krisskrosskiss · 09/07/2019 14:27

Sometimes fir fun. I'm a really messy person in general but I still sometimes put all my scatter cushions and my throw out on my bed.. the frame is also decorated with fabric flowers which I change around for fun... I dont always have it set up nicely but I do enjoy it now and again because it makes me relaxed. Plus my bed is the least likely area to get trashed by the kids so it's nice to come upstairs at the end of the day when the rest of the house is in chaos, to a pretty looking bed.

Lweji · 09/07/2019 14:28

Those magazine/catalogue pictures showing a mountain of pillows and cushions over layers of sheets, duvets and throws are just to show off as many products as possible, aren't they?

I don't think they were ever intended to be replicated in every day homes, except for people who do like to make extra work for themselves.

youngestisapsycho · 09/07/2019 14:29

I dont make my bed either... my kids beds are 'made' for one day when i change the sheets and covers, then they're a mess till changed again! No one other then me and DH ever go in our bedroom!

PolkadotLollipop · 09/07/2019 14:29

I don’t bother with loads of twee nonsense on the bed either. TBH, I think it looks a bit naff, like those display beds in Dunelm. I do make the bed in the morning though, duvet or sheet (sheet in the summer) folded back neatly to allow the bottom sheet & mattress to air.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 14:29

But don't let it keep you from complaining about a statement that nobody has ever or will ever make.

some posters really have a sense of humour bypass Hmm

Lweji · 09/07/2019 14:34

There's humour and there's "just kidding, honest, guv".

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 14:37

and there's grumpy posters, and those who are just talking linen and cushion on a lighthearted thread 🤷

CardinalCopia · 09/07/2019 14:42

I confess before we moved I didn't bother, but now my bedroom is just a bedroom with wardrobes etc in another room so I kind of make a bit more effort.
That said, DH is away for a few nights and I got up this morning, thought 'bollocks to it' and pillows remain on the floor Grin

Ticklingcheese · 09/07/2019 14:43

To get back on track 😀

How many of you place items (not pillows) on your bed for decoration?

Not counting cats, dogs and dc.

Bluntness100 · 09/07/2019 14:50

What do people do with the clothes from the wardrobe overspill?

I don't have this and never have. If you've not thr wardrobe space either declutter or size up, or buy storage units.

BethanyGilbert · 09/07/2019 14:53

We have three pillows and a throw. I like to have it made as soon as I’m out of it! I love coming up to bed and it looking nice.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/07/2019 14:54

Ticklingcheese - not me.
Although the kids have many toys stuffed along the wall side of their beds. But no fancy pillows, throws, runners or any of that other bollocks that just gets in the way of you getting into the bed and falling asleep.

BethanyGilbert · 09/07/2019 14:54

By pillows I mean throw cushions. We have four pillows then three cushions.

that25cUKHeatwaveof2019 · 09/07/2019 14:57

I usually have 6 pillows on the bed, 1 to sleep and 2 to read.
Youngest kids have soft toys, pillows, cushions for reading also. Older ones have got rid of the soft toys but not of all the pillows, they still read!

SilverySurfer · 09/07/2019 14:59

I agree OP, that photo looks poncey to me. My bed weeps with gratitude if/when I ever make it Grin

Squigglesworth · 09/07/2019 15:03

Definitely have a plenitude of pillows on the bed (8 real pillows yes, I know it sounds excessive, but I use each of my 4 every single day! plus a few decorative throw pillows), and in the winter, I keep a spare blanket or two folded at the foot of the bed.

Other than that, no, I don't "decorate" the bed. If I were having a magazine-style photo shoot of the bed, I suppose I might toss a nice book there... maybe along with a box of candy and some eyeglasses. Grin

purpleleotard · 09/07/2019 15:06

Utter waste of time.
I can never work out where to put the excess pillows / cushions and the throw type cloth when I am staying in a hotel. They usually get dumped in a corner.

Thistly · 09/07/2019 15:11

Great pics; thanks for those. Can we have more please? I might get inspired
