To ask advice on this foot wound? (Pic included)

So last Friday (10 days ago) I fell off a children's roundabout at work and got a few cuts.

This one on my foot was cleaned straight away and I've been cleaning it with TCP but it's getting worse, my whole foot feels bruised and like the skin is being stretched tight and hot to touch too. My lower leg aches.

I plan on seeing pharmacist tomorrow but noticed there's some red lines coming from the wound and when touched it's very tender, I've a few chronic health problems, not too worried as temp is 37.4 it's just so painful.

Anyone got any tips? Don't want to consult dr google and can't sleep with the pain. Feeling such a wuss.

@visitorthedog yes there has been, the doctor said to the others whilst on ward round that if I'd come in and got treated sooner I wouldn't have been so bad (my wound is now an ulcer) so I quite sternly corrected him - which isn't something I'd normally do.

I'm going to speak to PALs about it all. I can't even walk on my foot properly now.

I hope he was suitably apologetic / shocked. This is definitely something they people who saw you before need to learn from.

FoxSquadKitten · 15/07/2019 00:04

if it doesn't get better with the oral antibiotics there is the option of the ART team which can come to my house and give me the antibiotics

Well make sure, if it doesn't get better, that you take them up on this.
Glad you put the Doctor straight and definitely talk to PALs about their failings.

Take it easy ☕️ 🍪 🍫

Good for you for saying that.

How annoying is that though!!!
Plus we all encouraged you to go and you did more than once.

I'm so sorry it's now a foot ulcer and will take longer to heal.

At least you should have a record of all the times you went to A&E and your GP.

At least you trusted us and yourself and kept going in to see someone.

It could have cleared up but sadly it hasn't, but at least you didn't leave it to get better on it's own and who knows maybe you would have got sepsis if you hadn't kept going in, getting it dressed and getting antibiotics.

I'm glad you're on the mend. But omg how frustrating for you.

Keep keeping an eye on it and yourself Flowers

ART team which can come to my house and give me the antibiotics -'they've been understanding of my childcare situation

They had bloody better go to your house and look after you and not expect you to go to your GP's / GP nurse who were actually beyond unhelpful in this situation.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 15/07/2019 00:36

Thank you. And thank you all for your encouragement, there's no way I would have kept going and going if it wasn't for all of you.

Went back, saw nurse practitioner and was told to just let the antibiotics work and be patient and made to feel a massive hypochondriac - didn't even look at my photos or foot properly

So presented back at A&E and told when I was triaged (same nurse as yesterday AM) and told to go to GP

This is the nurse you need to make a massive complaint about because her lack of competence may well stop someone getting the care they need in the future.

She didn't look at your foot properly or ask any relevant questions re your history etc.

TantricTwist · 15/07/2019 00:37

Remember the GP nurse you saw after that triage nurse was shocked at how bad it was, as she actually looked at your foot properly.

TantricTwist · 15/07/2019 00:40

Ps this is an area I work in hence my investment in your poor foot.

6triesbuttingout · 15/07/2019 00:40

Oh you poor girl. What an awful experience. If you feel any worse call 999 the paramedics are pretty good at identifying problems. Sending love

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 15/07/2019 00:45

This so stupid on so many levels. Because of a staggering lack of competence from the original A&E staff
You have a more serious condition
You will need longer to recover
You have required a long hospital admission
You will need more treatment than if you had been properly assessed in the first place
Your treatment will cost the NHS more

Please do speak to PALS you deserved better treatment than this.

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 15/07/2019 01:48

@TantricTwist yes I really will mention that particular nurse and everyone else I saw mon-weds that dismissed me. I didn't realise how unwell I was at the time until I got really bad and spent days in unnecessary pain.

I'd say I'm back to the level I was on Sunday when I originally posted except now I can barely walk, it's shocking how much worse I had to get before being taken seriously.

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude yes that's so true it's cost the NHS so much more when it could have been dealt sooner.

All this from a small cut!

So sorry op. You've had a horrific time. Thanks

cryer · 15/07/2019 02:08

Notice silver hasn't been back Hmm

visitorthedog · 15/07/2019 03:09

What did get them to take you seriously in the end?

Hairyheadphones · 15/07/2019 09:03

I really hope the nurse who saw you at A&E twice and sent you away hears how delaying proper treatment has affected you.

Hope you are back on your feet again and feeling better soon Flowers

HCantThinkOfAUsername · 15/07/2019 12:42

@visitorthedog developed a very high temp along with the vomiting

OP posts:
wibbletooth · 15/07/2019 13:38

So sorry OP to hear that you took a turn for the worse and ended up so ill when it was completely unnecessary and due to the incompetence of those who originally saw you and ignored you.

So glad that you told the doctor off when he said you should have come in earlier - what did he say when you said been in several times, not had a history taken and basically told that you were wasting their time? Hope he was suitably horrified and is raising the issue urgently separately from you doing so through PALS. Hope he told all those on his rounds what should have happened and how it could have for so much worse.

It’s such a shame that the good nurse that treated you was off sick at such an inopportune moment for you. I know that’s not her fault but it is shocking that the surgery didn’t have any cover that they could call on to sort out people that needed daily help - while there are some things that might have been ok without being dealt with for an extra day or two - there are other things that shouldn’t. Like your foot!

Hoping that you have a steady and proper recovery op, and that you’re healed and pain free very soon.

HarryDaylight · 15/07/2019 18:31

I hope you make a full and speedy recovery, OP.
Please report the nurse who was so negligent once you feel better. Flowers

visitorthedog · 16/07/2019 00:54

😩 hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers

girlofthenorth · 16/07/2019 22:12

Sorry you had to go through all this .

Agree you should go to PALS and remember to mention that no one asked your past medical history which is complex and medicines. Hope your INR is under control - with all these ABs - that's my area - so hope all well .

MrsMozartMkII · 17/07/2019 18:04

How you doing today?

TiddlestheCat · 18/07/2019 07:53

So sorry to hear that things deteriorated quickly and that you ended up in hospital. I am astonished that, once your injury started tracking, you weren't immediately admitted. Before you write a letter of complaint, I would recommend having a quick look at the NICE guidelines for infections and Sepsis too. You might find it helpful to articulate their specific failings that way and they may take more notice/address their shortcomings. Finally you are getting the care that you deserve. However, medical staff are humans and make mistakes and conditions can change/deteriorate quickly. Which is why I would urge anyone in a similar position to you to be persistent and fight. And trust themselves. Had I been less passive/polite and listened to my gut instinct, my husband would not have ended up in a coma. It's a lesson that I have learned the hard way. Glad you are getting decent care now OP. So sorry that you've had such a rough time! Flowers

visitorthedog · 23/07/2019 06:43

Hope you’re better now @HCantThinkOfAUsername
