To ask advice on this foot wound? (Pic included)

So last Friday (10 days ago) I fell off a children's roundabout at work and got a few cuts.

This one on my foot was cleaned straight away and I've been cleaning it with TCP but it's getting worse, my whole foot feels bruised and like the skin is being stretched tight and hot to touch too. My lower leg aches.

I plan on seeing pharmacist tomorrow but noticed there's some red lines coming from the wound and when touched it's very tender, I've a few chronic health problems, not too worried as temp is 37.4 it's just so painful.

Anyone got any tips? Don't want to consult dr google and can't sleep with the pain. Feeling such a wuss.

How is your foot today? I can't believe that you have had such a shockingly awful service from your healthcare providers Flowers

I think it shows that whenever anyone needs medical care it is extremely important that they let the healthcare provider know of any other medical issues they have.

foreverhanging · 10/07/2019 12:17

Bless you op

FoxSquadKitten · 10/07/2019 12:38

I genuinely haven't been so over invested in another person's body part since smellbow😂

I know right, between this thread and the 'painful lump next to anus' one, I've never been on mn so much 😆

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 10/07/2019 13:19

What happened with the smellbow in the end? I remember that!

IncandescentShadow · 10/07/2019 13:22

Hope you're feeling a bit better OP and continue to improve. Its not nice to read harsh posts when you're not feeling yourself.

I'm horrified that A and E didn't take a patient history or ask if you there were any drug contraindications before prescribing you Clarithromycin.

The NHS can be remarkably flippant when faced with some issues with serious consequences. I've had to do that back and forth nonsense to the GP and A and E both times in my life I've been ill - firstly with pneumonia, and then with an infection from a nasty dog bite. With the latter I ended up paying 140 to see a private GP because the NHS point blank refused to give me antibiotics.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 10/07/2019 13:36

Jesus OP I've just RTFT. I hope you're better soon. I had cellulitis in my foot- misdiagnosed by GP as a fungal infection because I didn't have a temperature. I ended up at the Out of Hours after told the GP at NHS24 I knew I had cellulitis. It was tracking, I was shaking uncontrollably but because I didn't have a temperature she said I didn't. I very firmly told her I was going to A & E if she didn't find me an appointment. The nurse Practitioner at OoH was amazing. Took one look got me on antibiotics and told me if there wasn't an improvement in 12 hours to get myself down to A & E for intravenous anti-bs. If I had listened to both GPs who both insisted I couldn't possible have cellulitis as I didn't have a temp I would've been in a terrible state. Like you.

@roundturnandtwohalfhitches it's horrible isn't it! I'm glad you got sorted it's awful when you feel unwell then have to push too - I'm an introvert too which doesn't help.

Well nurse appointment was cancelled as she's gone home unwell and apparently was the only nurse on duty?
I've been told my appointment is still on tomorrow.

Still have diahorea but vomiting has stopped 😄

How's the pain and the tracking doing?

wonkylegs · 10/07/2019 16:22

OP I have been following your posts and I'm glad you seem to finally be getting sorted.
I just wanted to say I have RA and have been on MTX which is now combined with anti-TNF drugs so I've had a compromised immune system for the past 20yrs and it's really easy with these kinds of treatments and the long term illnesses we have that require us to take them, to feel like people see us as hypochondriacs as we seem to end up going back to see healthcare professionals so many times even for simple things. It's important to remember this is normal and it probably not an over-reaction on your part, in fact, everyone I know in this situation seems to downplay their symptoms as they are so fed up of having to continuously deal with them. Non specialist doctors may not know everything about your condition so it's important to shout that you have it and what meds you are on. This was patently obvious when I had both my kids, some drs / nurses were great, some clearly knew very little about it. If you don't feel confident enough to advocate for yourself when poorly, make sure you carry a little card in your purse with your condition, your medication and the name & contact details of you consultant / Rheumy team on it which you can just take out when you need it.
Hope you are on the mend now Thanks

Someone has to fill me in on Smellbow and the boil on the arse!
OP Glad to hear that the D&V have stopped now. When you're feeling up to it, I think that we should all give you a little lesson on assertiveness through a little role play! I can play the 'computer says no' hospital receptionist 😉. In the meanwhile enjoy the fact that so many strangers have cared deeply about you over the last few days! 😊

Absolutepowercorrupts · 10/07/2019 19:18

I really hope your appointment goes ahead tomorrow and that you get the right treatment.
It must have been very frightening for you, so best of luck and I wish you well. Flowers

thinkingcapon · 10/07/2019 20:02

@CorBlimeyGovenor a tad patronising no?!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 10/07/2019 20:14

I took CorBlimeys reply as a tongue in cheek remark?

thinkingcapon · 10/07/2019 20:18

Apologies if I read it wrong.....

wibbletooth · 10/07/2019 21:38

I was just coming on here to see how you’re doing op and to suggest that, when you’re better, it would be a good idea to have a card to go in your wallet with your conditions and medications on, along with a warning to get all drugs double checked for possible interactions with your existing drugs (and maybe a top ten of drugs you definitely shouldn’t have that you might get prescribed if you end up in a similar predicament again). Adding in your consultant’s details and contact numbers is also an excellent idea.

Do you still get issued with a little yellow book to note your INR in if you’re using anti coagulants or is that just for some not all of them? I seem to remember being told to brandish around if being prescribed anything - particularly if in a hospital or by anyone not familiar with you - to make them doubly aware of the fact. Making them sign and add your drug at the current point you are at ‘for reference’ also was deemed a good way of making them stop and check rather than assume things were ok - liability very different if you have signed to say something is safe and you haven’t!

Hope things continue to improve and you get to see the nurse tomorrow. If she is still off poorly, take a deep breath and ask reception about getting someone else to do it because it will already have been left twice as long as they suggested...

Rachelover40 · 11/07/2019 01:17

Good luck for your appointment, please tell us what happens and what treatment you are given.

SimplySteveRedux · 11/07/2019 02:28

Just following, Hope you feel better soon, and the appointment this morning goes well x.

MrsMozartMkII · 11/07/2019 10:03

How you doing?

BringMeTea · 11/07/2019 10:16

You poor poor thing OP. I really hope you're on the mend now. You have had some shitty treatment from HCPs. Look after yourself. Flowers

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 11/07/2019 13:38

So.. erm.. how do we go about checking that someone's still alive....?

MotherOfSoupDragons · 11/07/2019 14:03

FFS.

FoxSquadKitten · 11/07/2019 14:28

Well hopefully OP has been back to the surgery today and the nurse has treated it. Fingers crossed the nurse was back and they haven't fobbed her off🤞

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 11/07/2019 14:33

I totally missed yesterday's reply.

Glad to hear the D&V has stopped op! Are you feeling generally more well in yourself?
