I'm cross that the clean bed luxury has been ruined

I've changed our bed today and it was overdue. I put the sheet and pillow back on but the duvet cover is a bit damp so has stayed on the airer.
I just went in to find DD lying on our bed, on the sheet in her outdoor clothes. Angry

saraclara · 06/07/2019 15:25

Ha! I love the clean bed feel, but yes, it wouldn't occur to me not to lie on my bed in outdoor clothes or worry about anyone else doing so!

On the other hand, my housewifely skills aren't exactly up there in the top ten!

JayDot500 · 06/07/2019 15:26

OP I totally understand. I haaate when people sit on my bed with the clothes they've been outdoors in (excluding underwear or t shirts). More than anything shoes, socks and trousers on my bed just pisses me off. I don't need any of that crap on my bed. Animals are a big HELL NO! (No matter how clean you want to tell me your cat is).

InglouriousBasterd · 06/07/2019 15:28

Bloody hell MN is a miserable place at the moment! I’m with you Stealth, my clean bedsheets are sacred and DD is always chucked off. As is the cat. The thought of getting into bed in jeans makes me feel weird Grin I didn’t realise I had bed issues until this moment! I like to preserve the crisp loveliness for as long as possible. It’s a little luxury.

MissConductUS · 06/07/2019 15:28

My cat is lying on my bed in his outdoor fur the bastard

@LadyBahBahBah You've got this turned around a bit. It's his bed which he graciously shares with you.

One of my cats loves to "help" when I change the sheets by jumping up and walking on the mattress. I think he's there to supervise what's happening to his bed.

placemats · 06/07/2019 15:29

Why is having a clean bed a luxury?

placemats · 06/07/2019 15:30

Asked my cat.

Tumbleweed101 · 06/07/2019 15:34

I love the clean, fresh bed feeling so would also be peeved had someone been on my new bed uninvited - whatever they were wearing! I’m also fussy about the sheets needing to be smooth and tucked in properly as I hate it when the bottom sheet wrinkles up.

My Nan always told me off for sitting on her bed in day clothes.

LauderSyme · 06/07/2019 15:35

Did you march her into the shower in case she was harbouring more grass?! Wink

squee123 · 06/07/2019 15:35

This is so bizarre. I love getting into clean sheets too, but I wouldn't consider them tainted by someone lying on them in clothes for a short while. I'm pretty sure that the "I love clean sheets" brigade would largely agree.

I sit and lie on my bed in my clothes all the time. Never even occurred to me that this was a thing. What do you do if you want a nap? Do you have to change into pyjamas?

SkydivingKittyCat · 06/07/2019 15:36

Ah, I miss the days where I used to get into bed in my outdoor clothes with my dog wearing his outside fur (unwashed for at least 5 years prior) and have a Sunday afternoon nap. RIP stinky pooch. Now I have a squirming (and infinitely dirtier) child to nap with instead

GordonBrockman · 06/07/2019 15:36

I’m with you SPB, I get annoyed with dp if he goes for a nap on clean sheet day because I want them to be fresh when I get in!

I also wash the pillow protectors with the bedding every week and the mattress protector every other.

The children can do what they they like in their own beds though.

squee123 · 06/07/2019 15:39

You sound like a great Airbnb host though. If only everyone was so thorough about cleanliness. I have much higher standards when it comes to sleeping in beds used by strangers

Booboosweet · 06/07/2019 15:40

Grin most crazy thread I have read in a while. Gave me a chuckle. What do you do if you have sex? Cling film yourself before lying in the sheets?

sleepynewmumxo · 06/07/2019 15:40

That seems very strict. It's your preference to lay on fresh bed sheets, and your "thing" but I can't say it would be the top desire of a 9 year old. To be told off for something that YOU have a preference for seems insane to me.

Bluerussian · 06/07/2019 15:40

Hee hee, I too am not overly housewifey, saraclara.

Op, I didn't mean to be rude or nosy in my last post. It just struck me as unusual to wash and dry bedclothes, then put them back on bed - but hey ho, each to their own. Perhaps they're your favourites.

When I was young I used to smoke in bedroom, not only did I sometimes spill ash on bedclothes but also burned holes. Don't smoke at all now, filthy habit. Also used to drink tea or coffee and sometimes spill.

stopitandtidyupp · 06/07/2019 15:43

My cat is lying on my bed in his outdoor fur the bastard 😱

I rarely actually laugh out loud but this made me chortle.

Currently sat in my bed in my day clothes relaxing reading mumsnet.

I feel you are being unreasonable.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 06/07/2019 15:44

Straight out the bath/shower in to a clean bed is one of the best feelings, I get it @StealthPolarBear and I'd be pissed too

placemats · 06/07/2019 15:45

When I get to a hotel room, exhausted after hours of travel, first thing I do? Flop down on the bed.

Oh the germs I've spread!

placemats · 06/07/2019 15:45

I do remove the top cover beforehand though.

Lotts123 · 06/07/2019 15:47

If I put fresh bed sheets on and someone laid in or on my bed before I got in it to sleep that night I would be angry - whether they were in indoor or outdoor clothes. I love fresh sheets day, shower & hair wash and then climbing in to a nice untouched bed.

I don’t have indoor or outdoor clothes, and if I nap (rarely now but when pregnant I did it most days) I just climb in in whatever I am wearing. However, I do get the indoor clothes thing, well sort of.....my partner changes into a tracksuit / his dressing gown / pants as soon as he walks in the front door. It’s like he isn’t going to relax at home unless he’s in his indoor clothes, and he doesn’t go out of the house in these (I’m sure the elderly neighbours would have a shock if he went out in his pants!). Anyway, when I was pregnant and frequently napping he did comment that I’d got into bed in my outside clothes and we had an odd conversation about indoor / outdoor clothes - or just clothes?! Until then I didn’t know this was even a thing, and I think until then he didn’t know that I didn’t know it was a thing! Meh, if I want to nap I still get in in whatever I’m wearing and I don’t change into indoor clothes (maybe just take off my bra when I’m in for the day). Adding to the indoor clothes thing DP also has indoor and outdoor shoes - another thing I’d never heard of? He will wear sliders at home, but if he nips out to the car he will change into the same sliders, but his ‘outside’ pair. I once popped them on to go outside quickly and remember being asked “Are they the outside ones?” - 😳

francienolan · 06/07/2019 15:47

Yanbu. My parents (who live in NY) call this "subway butt" haha. I don't like sitting in the bed in clothes I've been wearing all day either, although when I come in from work I usually throw on some comfy clothes I only wear around the house so I do sit on the bed in those.

It's hard to believe that a site where so many people get genuinely offended at shoe wearing indoors has so many people saying YABU here.

placemats · 06/07/2019 15:52

Socks are worse than shoes.

All people should walk into a house naked, after coming through a portal that washes them from the outdoors.

My house is sealed from outdoor pollutants.

Delete.................

I get it though OP, I love nothing more than a clean bed sheets day and a clean me getting in at night. I don't extend this to my children though.

Thump · 06/07/2019 15:54

Wow. Is she tired and coming down with something perchance? She couldn't lie on her own bed (as you told her to get out of it) so lay down on yours instead? Hell or high water wouldn't get mine into bed during the day! Unless unwell. You are being unreasonable, controlling, weird, nasty to your poor dd who was just resting and displaying tendencies of OCD.
Plus - woe betide us - a blade of grass! You have a child FFS! How do you cope?

Aswad · 06/07/2019 15:56

I know what you mean OP. I LOVE that fresh clean bedding feeling and getting in all freshly showered and cleaned

JudgeRindersMinder · 06/07/2019 16:00

I’m not getting into the outdoor clothes in bed debate, but I give you....

Crisp clean cotton sheets just off the line and on the bed and.....

FRESHLY SHAVED LEGS!!
