I'm cross that the clean bed luxury has been ruined

I've changed our bed today and it was overdue. I put the sheet and pillow back on but the duvet cover is a bit damp so has stayed on the airer.
I just went in to find DD lying on our bed, on the sheet in her outdoor clothes. Angry

If she was covered in mud and under your duvet, yes that would be annoying. But in ordinarily clean clothes outside the bedcovers - why would that even be a problem?

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:13

In the bed. She was in the bed.

Good grief, give @StealthPolarBear a break! She clearly had a tiny grumble at her child. It's not a big deal. Whether people like 'virgin' fresh sheets or not is entirely up to them, but there's no need to be so nasty. Struck me as a fairly light hearted thread.
And yes I know this is AIBU

CrazyToast · 06/07/2019 18:22

OMG is this a thing? No outdoor clothes on the bed? Never heard this in my life!

I understand no mucky muddy clothes and defo no outdoor shoes.

But no outdoor clothes? How bizarre (to me). Learn a new thing every day. Do you also iron your bed sheets etc?

However, your rules are your rules and if she disobeyed purposefully then she should be told off.

If she just forgot genuinely then I'd still lightly chastise but wouldnt consider it a huge issue.

riotlady · 06/07/2019 18:26

Have never heard of this!

I enjoy a clean sheets feeling but I don’t think someone being in the bed for half an hour in their “outdoor clothes” would take that away

Fair enough to have it as a rule for your bed if that’s what you like but seems very strict to not let your daughter sit on her own bed in her clothes!!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 06/07/2019 18:28

I love the clean bed feeling but that wouldn't be ruined for me by normal outdoor clothes being on them... maybe muddy clothes or something but otherwise, it's still clean and fresh!

twattymctwatterson · 06/07/2019 18:28

I can't believe this is a thing

Gingeraledrinker · 06/07/2019 18:30

I take your point about little irritants setting us off sometimes - that's fair enough op - but when it comes to DC it really does help to pick your battles imho.

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:32

Definitely

CrazyToast and subsequent posters
As you clearly haven't rtft

  1. OP is talking about in the bed not on top of the duvet
  2. OP has said it's not a big thing
  3. OP's dd has not been punished
  4. OP has acknowledged that her dd has right to treat her own bed as she wishes (within reason)
  5. And other people have similar feelings about non-nightclothes under the duvet.

HTH

JoyceDivision · 06/07/2019 18:33

Bedgasm haha! Throw a good book into the mix, oh amazing!

Surfskatefamily · 06/07/2019 18:36

So do you have outdoor clothes and indoor clothes? Iv never heard of this

I just wear "clothes"

I take shoes off....think your upset is a tad ott

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:40

Clothes are indoor (ie clean) till you go outside in them for the first time. Then they're outdoor.
I always assumed this was a commonly understood phrase! Like indoor shoes. Won't be making that mistake again.

OP posts:
riotlady · 06/07/2019 18:45

Hold the phone, wtf are indoor SHOES?

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:47

My children take indoor and outdoor trainers to school. Requirements have never been spelled out but most parents have grasped that indoor trainers:

  • are intended for indoor use only
  • are clean, not mhddy
  • are non-marking

I hadn't realised but obviously we are all of superior intellect to be able to make such a leap.

HappilyHarridan · 06/07/2019 18:47

I have clothes that only get worn indoors (of the v comfy and baggy variety) it is ok to lie on or in the bed in those clothes. But jeans, work clothes etc that have seen the outdoors should not come into contact with bedding. They just shouldn’t. I don’t iron sheets and am happy enough if the house is mess but there is just something grim about bring all the outdoor germs into the bed! There should really be a law about this.

Really? Oh dear god

OP posts:
Ravingstarfish · 06/07/2019 18:51

Indoor and outdoor trainers?!

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:52

You've actually compared me to someone that evil. Enough, really.

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:53

Yes, sigh

OP posts:
Socksontheradiator · 06/07/2019 18:53

@riotlady this is mumsnet. Last week someone was saying it was rude to ask someone if you should take your shoes off in their home as surely they should magically just know Confused

StealthPolarBear · 06/07/2019 18:55

My daughter is loved and cared for. She has independence relavnt to her age and we encourage her to try everything and do what she enjoys (apart from lying in bed in her clothes obviously ). All her teachers have said how intelligent, well mannered and kind she is. And you're suggesting what I did to her compares to keeping her locked up all her life. How dare you.
