That the lady in the Bank can't catch the Gay ?

Well that was a fun trip to the Bank.
Lady in front of me was obviously complaining but I only caught second half when I had started to feel itchy that I'd miss my bus .
Apparently the bank teller had personally changed her phone app to the rainbow flag and she didn't like it as she didn't want to catch The Gay .. I listened and admired the teller explain patiently that she hadn't done that personally but it was to celebrate pride. Customer then says well I'm not gay so take it off NOW ... pushing her mobile through the gap ... I so want to know how that ended but they opened another booth.. aibu to call bank and ask lol 😂

To be honest, I’m thoroughly fed up with rainbows everywhere as well. Not in the slightest bit homophobic but it’s everywhere. I wish there was as much enthusiasm for acceptance for disabled people as there is for who you sleep with.

Probably an unpopular opinion but the pink washing and virtue signalling on everything for banking apps to a sandwich is too much for me.

pelirocco123 · 05/07/2019 14:39

why would the bank teller have the lady's phone?

MyOpinionIsValid · 05/07/2019 14:41

To show her how to download a phone app ?

LauraMipsum · 05/07/2019 14:42

Me too Hairy and I'm a lesbian.

I popped into the bank yesterday and came out to find they'd put some sort of rainbow bathmat all around the cashpoints. I'd far rather they stopped offering banking services to Saudi Arabia if they really give a shit about us. But no problem with that as long as they're compelling their 90% heterosexual staff to wear a rainbow lanyard right.

Popsicle434544 · 05/07/2019 14:43

Ahhh is that Barclays? Now i realise why my app colour has changed, wondered y it wastnt blue anymore.
What a dick that women is, i love it, wish it stays that way

MrsGaryLightbody · 05/07/2019 14:43

Ok , maybe I didn't make myself clear.. the customer was obviously under the impression that her local bank put the pride logo on her app. She wanted the teller to take it off her phone NOW, as she wasn't gay, didn't like gay people or rainbows! She was trying to get the teller to take her handset and remove it.

CassianAndor · 05/07/2019 14:43

why on earth would the cashier change someone's phone app to anything??

Nothing to do with her worrying about catching the gay, OP, that makes you sound like a berk. She just didn't want it on her phone. Nor would I.

Nesssie · 05/07/2019 14:43

Well it wasn't really the tellers place to change the ladies phone tbh that's massively overstepping.

I'm not homophobic but I would think that was a bit strange and wouldn't want it on my phone either.

YABU

dodgeballchamp · 05/07/2019 14:45

Nice of the casual homophobes to take the time to reply here...

PepsiLola · 05/07/2019 14:45

I don't understand why people aren't getting the OP.

The lady's phone had an app on for day NatWest, with the latest update, the app had changed the icon to a rainbow.

Lady was complaining to cashier that she didn't want a rainbow.

Cashier hadn't done it, cashier was in receiving end of a complaint

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 05/07/2019 14:45

Woman was an idiot. But I agree that it’s a load of virtue signalling that feels pretty cynical.

PepsiLola · 05/07/2019 14:46

Say NatWest* oops!

sacope · 05/07/2019 14:47

Well it wasn't really the tellers place to change the ladies phone tbh that's massively overstepping.

She didn't.

The banks/supermarkets/shops have pretty much all changed their apps and websites to recognise pride. It will have been changed centrally by the IT department not by the the bank teller!

ladygracie · 05/07/2019 14:47

Nesssie - the teller didn’t change it. The bank has changed the app for everyone.

Zebraaa · 05/07/2019 14:47

The cashier didn’t change the app, the bank must have updated it. The customer was asking the cashier to change the app back for her because she didn’t want the rainbow.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/07/2019 14:47

Ooh! Some reading incomprehension at work here....

Bank changed App Icon - supporting Pride
Lady didn't like it, OP heard her say so
Lady demanded that the bank clerk remove the offending article, again OP heard her say so

So... no assumptions, no bank clerk doing anything intrusive just Barclays, being Woke!

PepsiLola · 05/07/2019 14:47

I would have chuckled and wanted to know outcome too 😂

Some people complain about the silliest things

Nesssie · 05/07/2019 14:50

Ok well in that case, the teller could have simply said it was an automatic app upgrade and nothing she could do.

No drama. Everyone's home for tea.

justilou1 · 05/07/2019 14:52

Would have been so tempting to say something like, "You know you can't catch the gay, but you obviously have a raging case of the stupid...."

sacope · 05/07/2019 14:54

Ok well in that case, the teller could have simply said it was an automatic app upgrade and nothing she could do.

She did.

No drama. Everyone's home for tea.

Except their was drama, from the lady, which is he entire point of the thread.

Fibbke · 05/07/2019 14:54

Probably an unpopular opinion but the pink washing and virtue signalling on everything for banking apps to a sandwich is too much for me

God i agree 120%

picklemepopcorn · 05/07/2019 14:54

It's really disconcerting, especially for older people, when apps change appearance.

I'd hate my screen to change all the time because a company was virtue signalling, or following fashion.

Some of us rely on certain visual patterns to navigate, and changing the colour messes it all up- even things that shouldn't seem connected.

ny20005 · 05/07/2019 14:56

I hope the teller deleted the app for her - problem solved 😂

Fibbke · 05/07/2019 14:56

Yes and we are always told to be aware of apps that change as they could be hacked. First direct warns you in advance if they are going to change anything about the app appearance

Quintella · 05/07/2019 14:58

The corporate bandwagonning of Pride this year made my eyes roll out my head.
