To want to put an obscenely low offer in for my dream house

piraterach · 02/07/2019 22:09

I know I ABU but a girl can dream.

My absolute dream house is in right move, it's been there since November. I absolutely in no way and never will be able to afford it (£800K Shock).

My poor little house is worth around £150K.

Any chance an incredibly cheeky offer would go through because some millionaire likes that I had the balls to do it??? Grin

I'm normally all for 'cheeky' offers, but the gulf here is plain ridiculous. Assuming they've priced it relatively sensibly.

Are you suggesting bidding 150k for it? I don't think anyone would short change themselves to this degree because they're taken by your charm/cheek.

Sorry Grin

NeverGotMyPuppy · 02/07/2019 22:15

I know someone who got 300k knocked off a house because the owners had to sell. But I dont know the original asking price so it may have been 300 off 2 million.

If you dont ask..?!

PCohle · 02/07/2019 22:17

Why waste everyone's time?

Bit shit for the sellers to get told they've had an offer only to find out it's a total joke. I doubt they're going to find that amazingly endearing.

Letthemysterybe · 02/07/2019 22:17

I enjoy fantasising about some wealthy elderly couple, who decide that my house is perfect to downsize into, and that thay just want to swap houses to make things easier.

AnyFucker · 02/07/2019 22:18

Seriously ?

MairzyDoats · 02/07/2019 22:18

Nah, it will never work. What you could do is show us the house and we'll tell you all the reasons it's a bad idea. Problem solved Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/07/2019 22:18

Don’t be so ridiculous

Owlettele · 02/07/2019 22:19

Clearly we need a link to said dream home

Lifecraft · 02/07/2019 22:20

If they laugh at your offer, you're no worse off. You never know what personal trauma they might be going thru, that might mean they will just take your offer.

Go for it.

DickZillaofTheVilla · 02/07/2019 22:20

About as likely me finding a bag with 800k in it on the street tomorrow I should think

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 22:22

You can always ask, and the EA has to forward it to the owners. It's fine to go low for a first offer, but 150k on an 800k property is either insulting or stupid. It won't cost you anything to try, so why not.

mabelmylove · 02/07/2019 22:22

My DM has been trying to sell her house for ages. I think she’d be devastated if she was told she finally had an offer, just to discover it’s for less than a quarter of the asking price.

LaurieMarlow · 02/07/2019 22:23

Thinking about it, you have nothing to lose. So while your chances of success are minuscule, there’s no harm in it.

mabelmylove · 02/07/2019 22:24

Although I’m sure I’m just being a grumpy bitch on what was intended as a lighthearted thread! In which case, dream away OP Grin

piraterach · 02/07/2019 22:26

Dunno if I'd actually have the balls to do it Confused

I'm sure the huge garden would be a pain in the bum to cut and the floors would take ages to mop and id probably lose the kids in all that space Grin

We put on a cheeky offer on a house (think 4/5ths of the asking price, but it was totally over priced).

Vendors threw a tantrum and took it off the market that afternoon. I think ours was the only offer they got.

lipslovelylips · 02/07/2019 22:29

I do think it's overpriced but sadly not by that much!

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 22:29

oh. It's very ... new.

I don't think your chances are very high. If they were to accept, I would be very worried there's something very wrong with that house Grin

mineofuselessinformation · 02/07/2019 22:30

No

LaurieMarlow · 02/07/2019 22:30

Nah, fuck that. 5 bathrooms?!?!?! You’d spend all your time cleaning. And walk in wardrobes are basically encouraging you to hoard crap.

Walk away OP Grin

AllBirthdaysMatter · 02/07/2019 22:31

Is it just me, or It's a very small garden for a 6 bed detached.

Liverbird77 · 02/07/2019 22:31

Important question: even if you got it, could you afford to run it?

JoJoSM2 · 02/07/2019 22:32

Are you the estate agent?

I really can't imagine this property being someone's dream house.

Malvinaa81 · 02/07/2019 22:33

It is best to draw the line between pleasant fantasy and pointless rudeness.

PS How about £2,000 for your house?

mrsm43s · 02/07/2019 22:33

To be fair, that house is pretty minging, and not worth £850K (in fairness I don't know the location, I'm basing on the dated decor, lack of character etc).

Its worth a whole lot more than £150K though.
