To want to put an obscenely low offer in for my dream house

piraterach · 02/07/2019 22:09

I know I ABU but a girl can dream.

My absolute dream house is in right move, it's been there since November. I absolutely in no way and never will be able to afford it (£800K Shock).

My poor little house is worth around £150K.

Any chance an incredibly cheeky offer would go through because some millionaire likes that I had the balls to do it??? Grin

@PickAChew but you can get at least 2 smaller and nicer houses in Sheffield for that much. I'm not sure the house being individually designed should make it worth that much.

wheelywheelynice · 03/07/2019 18:18

You aren't being unreasonable, you are being totally ridiculous

Bluerussian · 03/07/2019 18:21

Not a bad house at all.
I prefer the one pickachew linked to though.

This is what you'd get for similar price near me:

We bought our house for just over £40,000 - but that was in 1984 :-).

Zbag · 03/07/2019 18:22

That is amazingly cheap for that house. It would be worth at least 1.5 mil here

lalafafa · 03/07/2019 18:23

its soulless, could you even afford to run it?

FlyingElbows · 03/07/2019 18:30

I am irrationally irritated by the truly terrible furniture placement in that house. It screams "divorced man". Fgs, for that kind of price do the place a favour and at least try and give it a soul.

spellingtest · 03/07/2019 18:31

When I was selling my late parents house some people offered 50% of the asking price. I thought good on them trying but no chance!

Not sure if that helps

PivotPivotPivottt · 03/07/2019 18:35

Wow the most expensive house for sale in my town is 7 bedrooms £360k.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 03/07/2019 18:37

It is a lot of space to fill. I think it has probably been decutered a bit too much for the photos and the colours are very neutral so would be an easy fix to style it however you wanted.
The garden is smaller than I would expect for the size of house but then what do I know as I have never even been to Sheffield let alone lived there.
But I would kill for a walk-in wardrobe so I could forgive a lot to have that.

Snidpan · 03/07/2019 18:41

In Brighton, this what we can get for £850,000, and it's not even central www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71828704.html

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/07/2019 18:50

I'm surprised it is anyone's dream house tbh.

PooWillyBumBum · 03/07/2019 18:54

@Snidpan that’s actually a really nice house though, apart from the very overlooked garden.

I live in an expensive area and that wouldn't buy my in laws 4 bed, but if I had 850k to spend in the Sheffield area I’d be looking for a stone house nestled in a Hope Valley village. Just love it out there.

Timeforachangeof · 03/07/2019 18:57

I’ll keep it simple No.

CampingUnderOakTrees · 03/07/2019 19:02

Have you just come into some inheritance OP? I mean you could attempt £675 but I doubt much lower. And be prepared for the agent to laugh at you. I personally love making low offers as the market is disgustingly overinflated and it gives sellers a reality check.

Ginger1982 · 03/07/2019 19:29

@Snidpan wow, that's extortionate for what you get! Up here in Scotland you would get so much more for your money but then it's all relative I suppose.

lululatetotheparty · 03/07/2019 19:34

We made a lowish offer... I think it was 15-20% off of the asking... and we also apologised in an email to the EA as we knew it was low but it was all we could afford. It was accepted... and then the vendors waited for our complicated chain (we didn't even have our house on the market when we offered, we had just always wanted to live on the street). The house did have some problems though (that didn't worry us) and it was at an odd lull in the market so they didn't have any other offers...

Brigante9 · 03/07/2019 19:35

Good job we all like different styles. Bar the overly fussy wallpaper and pelmetty curtains, I’d be spending my (imaginary) 700-800k on something like this.

Anchormann · 03/07/2019 19:43

Really bland and hate the floors which in fairness could be changed

It's only appeal is it's got lovely views out back

pollypenguin01 · 03/07/2019 19:46

The house is absolutely fine.

It’s not to my taste and I wouldn’t buy it but then I’m sure plenty of others would love it.

The staircase is nice, the rooms are big, airy and bright. There is an awful lot of space and it’s pretty much a blank canvas for a family to make their own.
Same with the garden, it’s plain, perfectly serviceable but ready for someone to really do something lovely to. (It may be a tad small with such a big house but I don’t know the area at all and I’m sure there are probably some lovely parks/woods etc nearby)

I don’t know why people are being so horrible about it. You’re not buying the furniture! You buy it and redecorate as most people do when buying a new home.

I’m not sure about prices for that area so I’ve no idea if it’s overpriced or not but I’m sure the sellers will eventually come down a bit if it is.

coragreta · 03/07/2019 20:17

People are being weird about Sheffield. There are lots of nice houses in nice areas around this price or more. But for the record this is not a nice house and it is not in a nice area.

ImpracticalCape · 03/07/2019 20:25

What's with the built in TVs in every room?! That would be a no from me immediately. Also... is that... pretend Louis Vuitton wallpaper in the lounge?!

PooWillyBumBum · 03/07/2019 21:28

How about these? Your kids can still get to Sheffield to see friends on occasion Grin

Monty27 · 04/07/2019 01:34

Why do people some people think OP actually has real money to make a realistic offer? It's tongue and cheek. It's also disrespectful to provide a link on a public forum, and certainly not anywhere near entertaining. Hmm

SkiingIsHeaven · 04/07/2019 01:42

Worth a try. I got £90k off a £540k house. They really needed to sell.

Nat6999 · 04/07/2019 01:53

I didn't think Sheffield had £850k houses
There are lots of areas in Sheffield where houses cost a lot more than £850k. It's getting difficult to find a decent 2 up 2 down terrace for less than £150k, a 3 bed semi for £250k & a 3 bed detached for £300k. Being so close to the peak district & having easy access to the M1 makes Sheffield very popular for professionals & many students who attend the university never leave after graduating.
