About DP taking drugs at festival...

Hi all,

My DP got back from a 5 day festival last night and whilst chatting about how it was,he casually mentioned that he took LSD, acid and ecstasy.

For a bit of background,he lost his driving license 18 months go for driving under the influence and possession of drugs.

He is by no means an addict - he takes drugs when he parties basically. Which can be once every couple of months even.

We also have a 7 month old baby and an 8 year old DS.

AIBU to be angry and think that this is completely irresponsible and immature? I don't begrudge him going out etc,but I think that he has responsibilities and it's very dangerous.

I'm probably exhausted too,our baby is teething and I've been having sleepless nights whilst he's been off his face on drugs...

Thanks for any thoughts!

Hi OP

I would ditch him. This could be a slippery slope into doing more drugs.

Why are all your flats in the same building? It seems odd you have children yet live 'separately'. Do you get on with his mum?

omione · 03/07/2019 08:31

Great parent isn't he. Why on earth would you choose to have such a man as Father to your children ? Dont be surprised if,when your children become teenagers they think drugs are normal, after all their Father is a convicted druggie. You made your bed so why are you suprised you have to lie in it ? Life is about choices and you made yours

nespressowoo · 03/07/2019 08:35

I don't know why the OP is getting all this flack. He obviously changed his ways for a long time but turns out it was just to get his license back.

MN is full of judgemental vipers these days. It's not like any of you have made bad decisions Hmm

Karwomannghia · 03/07/2019 08:41

Totally agree. There is no need to be so vile. I can only think you’re so fed up with your lot that you can only feel better by making someone else feel even shitter.

LoubyLou1234 · 03/07/2019 08:50

I spent 15 years going to different festivals and I've never taken any drugs so it's not standard for all adults going to festivals at all, I didn't even drink much alcohol most the time: hangovers and sweaty tents urgh. People can and do enjoy them without getting off their face tbh.

I've no issue with people doing as they please and it's their decision on how they choose to enjoy themselves.

However when you have children surely you should have some thoughts for your kids and their mother? Never fails to amaze me in these pages how many people carry on like single adults not giving a shit about their families at home.

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 03/07/2019 10:23

OP I'd suggest you seek advice from somewhere else tbh as you'll just get judgemental and ill informed opinions here. People thinking LSD and acid are different things is a perfect example.

There are also a lot of sexist comments here blaming you for a man's behaviour. If there is anything near you such as addaction they're helpful with advice etc.

Good luck

ProteinshakesandAntonsAss · 03/07/2019 10:38

He obviously changed his ways for a long time but turns out it was just to get his license back.

Yet at no point did OP ever discuss the concept of him never taking them again. He didnt promise to not take them again. He didnt even tell her, he wouldnt.

She had a baby with a recreational drug user. Then shocked he uses drugs recreationally.

If someone hates something their partner does and he doesnt do it for a while, there still needs to be a discussion.

It not about giving the OP flack. It's the fact that she is shocked about something, she always knows he does.

But to be fair, sounds like this isnt the only problem in the relationship. She shoildnt be with him anyway

No one has blamed OP for his behaviour.

She is only responsible for her own actions.

plobsalt · 03/07/2019 10:52

God there are some arseholes on this thread.

Glad you've decided to leave him op. He sounds like a bad match for you. Maybe post on relationships for some support (where there aren't as many bitter, spiteful or plain stupid people.)

WaterOffaDucksCrack · 03/07/2019 11:19

ProteinshakesandAntonsAss You and I seem to be reading a different thread.

ProteinshakesandAntonsAss · 03/07/2019 11:20

WaterOffaDucksCrack

Maybe we are. I dont see anywhere where th OP has been blamed for his drug taking or come down.

PregnantSea - taking acid and ecstasy at a festival is great if you don't have DC or responsibilities.

If you land yourself in A&E with heart problems after caning drugs or having one bad trip too many then that's one problem too far.

I guess having one friend develop schizophrenia from too many acid trips - now dead - killed herself and my uncle also with schizophrenia from too many trips makes me cynical as to how 'safe' they are. I loved ecstasy back in the day too but god knows what it's mixed with now.

plobsalt · 03/07/2019 12:30

My best friend died from a contaminated E. I don't judge people for drug taking if they've no children but as soon as you have a child that shit needs to stop.

As for the drug driving, fucking asshole. I lost another friend to a drug driver.

I have friends who all sit downstairs doing coke whilst their kids are upstairs. We no longer hang out. Revolting behaviour that's being far too noramalised.

TheCatThatDanced · 03/07/2019 16:20

plobsalt - glad you agree with me!

Don't get me wrong I did the 'drug clubbing years' when I was 25 for about 4 years like everyone else back in late 90s/00's did - took ecstasy that was said to be good and same of coke but how the heck do you know what's good or not?!

I have a friend whom I luckily don't see anymore who is divorced with one child and he was going out partying hard after my friend died as a result of schizophrenia brought on by lots of acid - she killed herself. No idea if the other friends take drugs probably do at festivals.

plobsalt · 03/07/2019 17:41

@TheCatThatDanced oh god I did it for about 15! I worked in the club scene. If you can't put your kids first then you shouldn't have them. Simple.
