It's an 11 year old (born male) ice skater. There's a little video where to me she looks female.

I daren't put this on the feminism board, but AIBU to think that in 20 years time we will look back in shame at how we have treated transgendered individuals?

I just put myself in those shoes for 5 hours. What on earth would I think? How much hate would I feel? How fucked up/strange/weird would I feel?

As much sympathy as I may have on a personal level for the child, they are not female and should not be able to compete as such. Why should the rights of women and girls to compete in a fair contest be prejudiced by the rights of one or 2 people to compete as the gender they “feel” they are.

For every little boy being told he is a girl who gets to compete on the girls team There is an actual girl being denied a place

That place could lead to a place at a school or eventually a university that could change that girls life.

In some countries who knows where that little girl could end up without having a place in that competition.

We have already seen the effect of letting boys compete for girls scholarships in the US.

We might as well just say women aren’t allowed to compete because the cards are stacked against them.

Now you have to beat the men to get a place in the women’s team.
