Following on from this -it was just getting interesting. Someone posted about how Meghan called herself a feminist but hadn’t earned the title. I was interested to know how you earned the title- but the thread ended.

Well I've never seen an area sectioned off like that at Wimbledon before for an individual. It may have happened but I don't recall it. It wasn't exactly low key for somebody wanting privacy and is just the latest in a line of gaffes.

derxa · 09/07/2019 14:35

Meghan's mistakes - and they are mistakes - are nothing compared to Fergie and Sophie's cash for access scandals.

“The op's linked bad taste gag was just that, bad taste.”

No it wasn’t.

Fergie was absolutely crucified for this episode (as well she should have been) - practically excommunicated.

Can't really remember the episode about Sophie - were they married in 2001?

AlaskanOilBaron · 09/07/2019 14:55

The Wimbledon situation was incredibly ill-judged. Cordoning off swathes of seats for her 'privacy', chiding people for taking photos.... it's almost like she's seeking bad press.

My husband was at Wimbledon yesterday, he sent me probably 4 or 5 picture throughout the day- the crowds were interested in Serena and Coco, not the Duchess

LadyBrienneofTarth · 09/07/2019 15:03

Maybe there's be specific security threats we don't know about that they are trying to manage

LaurieMarlow · 09/07/2019 15:05

Maybe there's be specific security threats we don't know about that they are trying to manage

Well exactly. There’s no evidence (is there?) that she herself requested it.

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 15:08

“Cordoning off swathes of seats for her 'privacy', chiding people for taking photos....”

Do we know that it was her not the security people who did that? And it is actually quite usual for people to be asked not to take photographs. Where did “chided” come from?

Haven't we all forgiven Fergie? She seems like a nice person who regularly makes gaffes.

I knew nothing at all about Sophie (?Wessex) doing anything terrible.

I seriously do not think Meghan has really put a foot wrong.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 09/07/2019 15:20

Kensington Palace declined to comment on the controversy today - but a royal source told MailOnline: 'It's not uncommon for personal protection officers accompanying any members of the Royal Family to ask people not to take pictures so they can engage with people and events rather than camera phones'.

That's fair enough, but if they were so keen on engaging with people why did they clear all the seats around Meghan and her guests?

IABUQueen · 09/07/2019 15:21

Why is this trundled out again. Not one person has said because she is 'different'

You don’t really have to say it. Most things like that are subconscious I’m afraid.

It just so happens that the moral campus became on high alert against one person singled out.. it’s quite obvious really.

SillyBillyBandy · 09/07/2019 15:26

I was at the baseball when H&M were there. No free seats, sat with their back to a wall like Kate which is easier to 'defend' I imagine at an event.

Clearing around her makes her a sitting target and a clear shot!

I like Megan I think she's a breath of fresh air, and has obviously had to deal with a lot growing up with her jealous awful siblings.

I do find this thread rather bizzare for a different reason however. Staunch republican suddenly defending the royals?

Is it because she has mixed heritage 🙄.

I can't think why this poster would care otherwise...

I am looking forward to the day the monarchy is abolished- I am a staunch republican. I just hate seeing anyone being treated unfairly. Particularly a confident woman who is prepared to call herself a feminist. Regardless of what she actually does, a woman in the public eye being prepared to describe herself as a feminist is so rare that she should be given credit for that. And it is utterly ridiculous to say a) Harry gets as much criticism, b) that there is no racism involved.

We all know why the DM has it in for Meghan..............Piers Morgan works for them & is very influential with them.
And we all know how Piers bears a grudge like a wasp chasing a jam sandwich. Remember his falling out with Jeremy Clarkson.

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2019 16:10

“Doesnt work like that I'm afraid. One needs to demonstrate these things.“
Ah. Back to how you qualify as a feminist! As a member of the British Royal Family, knowing the meaning of the word is an excellent start!

I’m totally nodding my head while I read this

No, we don't.
But why was it done for her and not other royals/celebrities?
Did she not notice lots of seats around her were empty?
Or wonder why that was the case?

Why would security people do that for her and not others who are perhaps equally "important" and equally in need of privacy or security,

Eh?

What?

Every celebrity is a feminist these days, even the women who have traded on their sexuality/played ridiculous dumb-women roles/posed naked on a car/whatever for their entire careers (that's just post-feminism, or post-post or whatever).

AlaskanOilBaron · 09/07/2019 16:52

To be quoted as saying that she was so appalled at age 11 yrs to see a sexist ad about washing up liquid that she wanted to be a feminist, yet to star in one a million times worse just makes her look very silly

This story makes me cringe, every time.

It's so self-serving, like PR by Hallmark.
