I’m a year older than Robert Smith and think this set is fantastic. I did see them in the early 80s and his voice hasn’t gone at all. DS is there so I will ask him what he thought, I don’t hold out much hope though as he didn’t like the brilliant Nick Cave the other year who also does a very good set

BuildBuildings · 30/06/2019 23:02

I've watched lots of coverage over the years and feel it's fairly easy to judge the class of the punters. Plus the cost of going is pretty prohibitive to lots of working class people. You can pretend it's this inclusive thing all you want but it won't make it true.

yearinyearout · 30/06/2019 23:05

Not the point of the thread but aren't the Cure sounding amazing ❤️

Fibbke · 30/06/2019 23:05

Watching it at home on the telly is pretty inclusive. I'm enjoying it and it didnt cost me anything, or you as a matter of fact bear

Fibbke · 30/06/2019 23:06

Sorry build

And yes they are sounding amazing!

Justmuddlingalong · 30/06/2019 23:06

Flowing in and filling up my hopeless ❤️.
I love that line. Am one happy bunny.

Itstartedinbarcelona · 30/06/2019 23:07

Totally agree yearinyearout I probably would have agreed I was too old before they came on but I really wish I was there

cushioncovers · 30/06/2019 23:08

Really enjoyed Maverick sabres acoustic version of drifting

RingtheBells · 30/06/2019 23:08

Not many concerts are inclusive though they all cost a fortune nowadays. It was 200 quid to see the Stones. Lots are over £100 each

BarbarAnna · 30/06/2019 23:08

I love them all over again! This is awesome.

StoorieHoose · 30/06/2019 23:09

Tickets are £280. Hardly extortionate if you save up for it. I managed to go in the 90s when it was cheaper but I was on £5000 as a wage a year at that point

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 30/06/2019 23:09

I haven't rtft, I'm just here to say how incredible The Cure are.

You flicker and you’re beautiful...

Just love simple lyrics like this.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 30/06/2019 23:10

Can't believe he's 60 - voice still sounding good. Excellent set. I do indeed wish I was there Envy

Loopytiles · 30/06/2019 23:10

Great voice.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/06/2019 23:11

Woohoo!

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 30/06/2019 23:12

I wondered if they'd play this, bless, it's as upbeat as Robert ever gets

RingtheBells · 30/06/2019 23:12

£280 is good value for a whole weekend. I’m going to Hyde Park for one night next week to see Bob Dylan and Neil Young and that’s about £100

Sakura7 · 30/06/2019 23:12

YES!! Grin

Petrarkanian · 30/06/2019 23:13

I love the fact he's doing all the singing, I can't stand it when they point the microphone at the crowd.
They are amazing.

TapasForTwo · 30/06/2019 23:13

“Seriously people , Robert Smith literally hasn’t spoken to the crowd once.

This is not how to headline a festival.

It’s shit.”

No it isn’t. The Cure are brilliant musicians. I would far rather listen to their music than some drivel.

“I prefer bands who cram in the songs, giving people their money's worth. Better than a few tunes and then a chat as a filler and to get their puff back.”

I couldn’t agree more.

“I’d love to know how many people who are loving this are doing so for reasons other than they are 40 somethings who remember it from their youth.
I still think it’s a shit headline act for Glastonbury.”

“Nope, I see a bloke with odd hair and make up who’s 40 years out of date headlining the biggest musical festival in the world and think it is actually a bit tragic, like the OP said.”

OK, so you don’t like The Cure, so stop watching them. Musically they are far far superior to many acts that have been on. The guitar playing is magical. The only one who is tragic is you.

Redcrayons · 30/06/2019 23:13

Just Love Cats to go and then I can go to bed.

See, I am too old to stay up late watching bands from my teens.

Roundtheislands · 30/06/2019 23:14

Oh no the thread will soon end! Great to share and enjoy, sod off OP! Grin
