To feel the rage with “teacher tired” posts

Rainbowsandglitterbullshit · 28/06/2019 18:26

The season of teachers posting SM messages “no one knows tired like an end of term teacher/TA/dinner lady” is almost upon us.

I want to scream, what about the fuckers who work stupid hours all week and don’t get 6 weeks off in the summer, half term, two weeks Easter, two weeks at Christmas.

I wouldn’t be a teacher for all the tea in China but these people chose their career.

Grrr, actually don’t care if I’m BU.

Sorry, what, Riddley? Why is there a recruitment crisis then?

Aragog · 28/06/2019 18:45

You know, everyone complains about their jobs at times. Pretty much every profession - including people who really enjoy their work.

The problem is, is that the end of term or the time to finish for a holiday, is usually spread out - so you don't really see a whole host of doctors, nurses, emergency services, bank workers, lawyers, etc. expressing their tiredness, or their desire for the break, all at once. Just with school staff it all happens at the same time - if it was spread out throughout the year it wouldn't be seen as different to any other profession.

NCBabyBoy · 28/06/2019 18:46

Only teachers would tell you their job is harder than... Is that actually true? Has any teacher ever said that? It's the kind of thing I've only heard on MumsnetConfused For the record, working 50hour wks 39 weeks a year still equates to more than full time if spread over 47 weeks. Most teachers work more than 50 hours and work during the holidays.

frasersmummy · 28/06/2019 18:46

Someone on my facebook counts down to. Her7 weeks off..
3 weeks till 7 weeks off etc..then it becomes days
Then its.. Oh its great first day of 7 weeks off
That gives me more rage.
But no yanbu. Every job has its pressures. I don't think teachers work harder than the rest of us

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/06/2019 18:46

Show me. Screenshot of it.

I have NEVER seen a teacher claim their job is THE hardest.

Knackering, stressful, undervalued etc, yes.

What I do see, and used to write, are posts trying to explain why teaching is fucking hard. That we don't finish at 3.39, don't get 6 weeks holiday, why that holiday is unpaid etc etc

And they do that repeatedly because of twattish posts, like this!

Just fucking stop. If you want to hate all teachers at least do it for real reasons. Otherwise you just found daft.

Aragog · 28/06/2019 18:46

Teaching is not the most difficult job in the world!

Who said it was? No teacher or TA I have met have claimed it is the hardest job in the world. Its not quite as easy as some people like to make out though either. Hence the crisis in the number of teachers!

VivienneHolt · 28/06/2019 18:46

I understand that the end of term is especially exhausting because it’s flat out, and I think teaching on a day to dah basis is exhausting and short on breaks. But I also think the holidays are excellent compensation for that, and that many teachers can’t conceive of what it’s like to only have 5 weeks for a whole year, regardless of how tired you are!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/06/2019 18:46

Teachers are a special breed on MN, you cannot say anything bad at all as they are a unique and untouchable special circle.

Have a family of teachers... (head of years, deputy heads and even a head teacher) none of them act or behave the way MN claim

detangler · 28/06/2019 18:47

YANBU.

Mind you, I hate any form of moaning on SM. Given that that’s what makes up a good chunk of it, I should probably get off it...

RiddleyW · 28/06/2019 18:47

Sorry, what, Riddley? Why is there a recruitment crisis then?

I mean near the bottom as in the worst scenario - few jobs that are so stressy but pay so poorly. So the recruitment crisis doesn’t surprise me at all.

TapasForTwo · 28/06/2019 18:48

“MN is a very teacher friendly site”

In my case with very good reason. DD has been pretty average throughout her school life, but ended up with some pretty decent GCSEs and excellent A level results. I take my hat off to teachers who give up their time to support students who are struggling in one way or another.

In answer to the OP – YABVVVVVVVVU and goady Hmm

Patroclus · 28/06/2019 18:48

Seriously, whats with the tabloid bile on here the last few days? Tories planning an election?

RiddleyW · 28/06/2019 18:49

I’m hugely grateful to teachers.

Aragog · 28/06/2019 18:49

think teaching is pretty near the bottom for stress/tiredness to pay ratio to be fair.

Tell that to the health insurance and critical care insurance people then. Maybe then we could get a lower rate of cover than what is is. Sadly it is fairly high in reality.
The 'survival rate' of a teacher after retirement is surprisingly low - or was when I was looking at some health insurance a few years back anyway.

MonkeyTrap · 28/06/2019 18:49

Pisses me off too.

I work longer hours day to day and don’t get the holiday.

I read that stuff and think the same as you.

Piggywaspushed · 28/06/2019 18:49

Only Teacher's would tell you their job is harder than...

May be true but they might also tell you how to use (or not) an apostrophe. And a capital letter.

ferretface · 28/06/2019 18:50

@cardibach nah I would never presume to think that anyone is any more tired than anyone else. I don't like competitive tiredness. Doesn't mean I wouldn't commiserate with a teacher at the end of term. Just means I wouldn't presume that they are more tired than someone in a different job but with a challenging living situation , SN kids, twins etc. Or insomnia. I would sympathise with the situation but I have no sympathy for the comparisons.

sincethereis · 28/06/2019 18:51

YANBU
irks me too.

Amanduh · 28/06/2019 18:51

Lol at 6 aeeks holiday though Grin

Amanduh · 28/06/2019 18:51

*weeks. As if!

NotBeingRobbed · 28/06/2019 18:52

Teachers do get paid, don’t they? And they are allowed to quit? They presumably have choices? I mean they aren’t so bad at everything else that they can only reach? So if 13 weeks a year off and only working weekdays is too tiring for them then they should really just FOD.

Tell that to the health insurance and critical care insurance people then.

Sorry my post has been completely misunderstood- I mean the opposite to what you think!

Ineedhelptocope · 28/06/2019 18:53

Im a teacher and there are any number of jobs I couldn't face...doctor, lawyer, paramedics..... I think all jobs have their own pressures of course but teaching does seem to drain the life blood out of you. The actual teaching bit is great...it's all the other crap that is horrendous. Ive seen amazing, strong people reduced to wrecks. Yes, we choose to do it but is that really a valid argument?

Patroclus · 28/06/2019 18:53

Sounds like you're the 'snowflake' here OP.

Nobody likes the working hours martyrs among us, its just frowned upon for them to tell you to STFU.
