Made to feel like a bit of a twat

My colleague is leaving his job, finishing tomorrow.
He does charity work, which involves sending stationery out to developing countries.
He has taken most of his stuff home and has also taken my whole tray of stationery to give to this charity abroad. It was on my desk yesterday.
I have been left with 4 small lead pencils and a black pen. Everything else is gone, including the actual stationery tray, my USB stick with stuff on it, all taken by him.
Its quite a lot of stuff, which I have collected over time.
Feel like a bit of a twat for asking for my stationery back when its going to charity, but these are the things I work with every day I will need them again.
He has admitted that he has it and says he will give it back tomorrow. He said its for the charity.
I do need my stuff back.
I think he's a CF.

Not unreasonable; charity or not, that’s your stuff and you’ve every right to ask for it back.

Amibeingdaft81 · 27/06/2019 10:08

Your stuff that you have purchased?
Or from the office stationary cupboard?

If that latter, just get some more and explain that taken by colleague for charity purposes

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 27/06/2019 10:08

The charity is by the by, he stole your stuff! Take it back with zero guilt

Bonniegirlie · 27/06/2019 10:09

It's called theft actually. You're not the twat, he is a thieving twat and a seriously CF. Sheesh.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 27/06/2019 10:09

Amibeingdaft81
Most of it is my own.

Celebelly · 27/06/2019 10:09

What the hell?! You can't just steal stuff from people cause it's 'for charity'!

HollowTalk · 27/06/2019 10:10

I would tell your boss about this - he's stolen your stuff and as he's not going to be around after tomorrow there's a high chance he won't bring it back. Bloody cheeky man!

It's easy to be charitable with other people's things!

Michaelbaubles · 27/06/2019 10:10

It’s your stuff! Of course he can’t take it. I assume some of it at least has been paid for by your work in which case it belongs to your employer as well - surely if they wanted to donate they’d give money or new things, not stuff from someone’s desk. Just because people in other countries might lack some things we have, it doesn’t mean they’re a dumping ground for other people’s used stuff. It’s very arrogant of him to assume they’ll be grateful from things swept off someone’s desk (not saying your stuff is tat!)

picklemepopcorn · 27/06/2019 10:10

The usb stick is irreplaceable- he shouldn't have taken any of it.

Celebelly · 27/06/2019 10:10

Also what if the USB had protected or sensitive info on it?

MyOpinionIsValid · 27/06/2019 10:11

I'd be bloody furious. It's theft.

Thehop · 27/06/2019 10:11

Piss of? He’s insane and clearly collecting for himself. I’m sure they’d appreciate car parts but he can’t steal your car either! Can you raise it with a line manager?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 27/06/2019 10:11

Er... that is theft.

He didn't ask your permission beforehand but just took it? Cheeky fucker!

Tell him you donate to the charities you support in your own way. You can't be forced to donate just because he deems it be so. I'd be fucking fuming to be honest. There could have been anything on the USB stick.

Smelborp · 27/06/2019 10:11

He stole your stuff! He doesn’t get to decide what things other people should donate. Also, your data is pretty key, absolutely get it all back.

Roent · 27/06/2019 10:11

He had absolutely not right to do that - it is stealing. It isn't that different from someone helping themselves to money from your purse/wallet and they declaring they are giving it to charity so it is ok.
You decided what and where your charity giving is - not him!
YANBU.

lunicorn · 27/06/2019 10:11

This is bizarre. What did he take your usb stick for?

RhodaDendron · 27/06/2019 10:11

Irrelevant that it’s for charity, flaming hec! I volunteer for a housing charity, I don’t randomly evict friends and colleagues from their homes and tell them I need their houses for charity! WHAT A CF!

Smelborp · 27/06/2019 10:12

Honestly if he doesn’t bring it back tomorrow I’d report him to the police. Let him know that you’ll do that so he won’t ‘forget’.

lunicorn · 27/06/2019 10:13

Maybe he has a stationery fetish and the charity's a cover.

TheRLodger · 27/06/2019 10:13

Yanbu i’d Be very cross about that. And unless for good reason I would be speaking to my boss about it

HouseworkAvoider10 · 27/06/2019 10:13

Celebelly
No, the USB does not have sensitive stuff on it, but it has very useful resources that I use for reference.
I have backed it up elsewhere, but I only bought my USB a few months ago.

OP posts:
sheshootssheimplores · 27/06/2019 10:15

Fucking hell. Why are you feeling like a twat? He’s just nicked a load of your stuff!

Poloshot · 27/06/2019 10:15

Weirdo. Tell him to bring it all back in cheeky twat.

Celebelly · 27/06/2019 10:15

But he doesn't know that re: USB presumably? He could have taken sensitive company material outside the company for all he knows!

fedup21 · 27/06/2019 10:16

I’d be fuming! He’s taken stuff that’s yours to give to charity!?
