Made to feel like a bit of a twat

My colleague is leaving his job, finishing tomorrow.
He does charity work, which involves sending stationery out to developing countries.
He has taken most of his stuff home and has also taken my whole tray of stationery to give to this charity abroad. It was on my desk yesterday.
I have been left with 4 small lead pencils and a black pen. Everything else is gone, including the actual stationery tray, my USB stick with stuff on it, all taken by him.
Its quite a lot of stuff, which I have collected over time.
Feel like a bit of a twat for asking for my stationery back when its going to charity, but these are the things I work with every day I will need them again.
He has admitted that he has it and says he will give it back tomorrow. He said its for the charity.
I do need my stuff back.
I think he's a CF.

Nah, he's a cheeky bastard and I'd be furious. But prepare not to ever get your stuff back if he's leaving at the end of this week.

Armadillostoes · 27/06/2019 10:18

YANBU-Who appointed him the Robin Hood of stationery? He can't decide to just steal whatever he fancies to give to those he deems to be in need.

Also, if you know the name of the charity, it might be kind to contact them and give them the head's up about his behaviour. If they are sincere people trying to do some good in the world, the last thing they need is for an idiot like this to potentially embarrass them. I suspect that he is a nightmare "volunteer" for them to manage, demanding lots of thanks and generally being high maintenance I can't imagine that they would want to receive stolen stuff.

ItWentInMyEye · 27/06/2019 10:18

YANBU! The cheeky sod.

Windygate · 27/06/2019 10:19

It's theft. I doubt very much he has his employers permission to take stationeries etc and pass them on to a charity and he certainly doesn't have your permission to steal your stuff. Theft employee is a criminal offence and gross misconduct

floribunda18 · 27/06/2019 10:20

I would be livid. I love stationary and buy myself lovely pens and sticky notes. Taking stationary is a capital offence.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 27/06/2019 10:22

Yeah, he's taken a couple of nice bits that I bought on my holidays.

I think you need to tell your superior and get it addressed before he disappears. Who cares if you upset him, hes leaving. Stand up for yourself OP, be firm

HouseworkAvoider10 · 27/06/2019 10:28

My supervisor knows.
She told him to bring it all back and told him off for pinching it.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2019 10:28

Ask for it back but don't be surprised if he doesn't bother. He's a CF!

JaneEyreAgain · 27/06/2019 10:30

How bloody weird is he??? I hope you feel less awkward now that everyone has told you it is not you, it is him!!!

EmmaLouisLou · 27/06/2019 10:33

He sounds insane, I’d make clear that what he’s done is theft, hope he brings it back. What a cf!

Ninkaninus · 27/06/2019 10:34

Wtaf?? He didn’t ‘pinch’ it, he ^stole* your things! I’d seriously call the police for that.

mumwon · 27/06/2019 10:35

are you sure his charity work is real? If he is taking stuff that belongs to others without their permission it makes me wonder how honest his charity support actually is

chuttypicks · 27/06/2019 10:36

He is a thief.

Porpoises · 27/06/2019 10:36

That's so weird. Is the charity genuine?

Ninkaninus · 27/06/2019 10:36

I’d be telling your supervisor that if my things aren’t returned by tomorrow I’m calling the police. What. The. Actual. Fuck.

BeenHereForAges · 27/06/2019 10:37

Errr get that right back. What a weirdo!

SummerCharl · 27/06/2019 10:40

I think the only twat is him! So odd. Glad your supervisor told him to bring it back.

Mainlandeurope · 27/06/2019 10:44

Nink you'd call the police? Hmm

He's definitely nicked your stuff though OP and I'd be pretty annoyed!

LondonJax · 27/06/2019 10:45

Doesn't matter if it was from the office stationery cupboard or whether you bought it (although it's even worse if you bought it obviously). He's stolen it. Charity or not you don't take stuff from the office or your work to give it to other people without express permission.

Anarchyshake · 27/06/2019 10:45

I hope you get your stuff back. That's disgusting, what he's done. Has he taken anyone else's stuff or just yours? Has he said why he did that, why he thought that was OK?

DarlingNikita · 27/06/2019 10:50

What the fuck? What was he thinking? I hope your supervisor didn't use the infantile word 'pinching' –he STOLE it.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 27/06/2019 10:50

No, only mine was taken.

He didn't really explain why he took it but he tried to argue that it was for charity and that it was just some stationery and that I could go get some more.

OP posts:
Ninkaninus · 27/06/2019 10:50

Of course I’d call the police if some twat stole my things, including my USB stick!

SignOnTheWindow · 27/06/2019 10:51

WTAF? Thieving weirdo.
